The Plaza Hotel - Milwaukee

Love the location, the Decor and Architecture, actually like that it’s a walk up… The cafe and courtyard are MKE Jems! The grocery store across the street and kitchenette in the room just make it too easy! I’ve been staying here for 80% of my visits to MKE the past 6 plus years… the room upgrades are just perfect for the building… was dated but still great before and now, contemporary stying with Deco charm and walkable to festival grounds, water street, Brady street and more… We love it here, and a fabulous familiar staff running it all!

It was built before accessibility was much of a thought…

We were taking a winter cross-country Amtrak trip and stopped in Milwaukee for a night. We booked a queen room at The Plaza Hotel but they upgraded us to a king suite-- a nice surprise! They also let us check in early to accommodate our early afternoon train arrival. It turned out there was a problem with the heat in the first room, so they switched us to a different king suite, and they also gave us an extra blanket and space heater. It was a short trip but a very comfortable place to stay. Location-wise, it's not right in the middle of things, but if you like walking, you can walk a bit and get to the major nearby sites. Pretty close to the museum/Calatrava "wings" addition, which was one thing we definitely wanted to see; and we also walked to the Riverwalk/historic 3rd Ward. I appreciated that the onsite restaurant/cafe (open for breakfast/lunch) had gluten-free veggie options, including GF bread! Conveniently, there was also a grocery store,/pharmacy behind the hotel. All in all, a lovely stay!

(The hotel discloses that there's no elevator--and there are accommodations for those who can't walk up stairs-- it's just unfortunate that because it's an old building, the path for some guests goes through the dining room.)

Cleanliness and Staff attentiveness were unparalleled.

Hotel Staff could have given my son and I a room with two beds, without an up charge. Or ..... Booking.com could have taken responsibility for a "dedicated" customer's up charge. Either way, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Although the hotel's cleanliness and Staff were impeccable, I will most likely choose another hotel next time I visit Milwaukee. So many other hotels that I have stayed with, would have eaten that charge for a stellar guest. Just sayin'....

The atmosphere was fantastic! Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The kitchen was amazing! It was a close walk to downtown, the lakefront, and the festival grounds. I also loved that the parking was only $15 and right behind the hotel. The staff was kind. I wish we could have stayed longer.

I heard a hard time maneuvering my big boat car in the narrow parking spaces and had to crawl into my car from the passenger side because the car next to us parked so close. But really, it’s not that big of a deal.

We loved this place! Really neat Art Deco old hotel yet the rooms were modern, tasteful and very clean! Glad the neat architecture is being preserved. We were able to walk to and from the Summerfest grounds . Felt safe doing so. Ate in the cool little diner for breakfast. Outdoor patio looked very charming, couldn’t get a table out there because it was full, but the diner was fun. Had a parking lot out back that had a fence around it. I would definitely stay here again. Location was great.

We have stayed at the Plaza before and enjoy the retro atmosphere-rooms are clean and comfortable-love the little kitchen that is in each one, we had asked for extra towels and they were waiting in the room, all staff you meet are very friendly and helpful whether it's the front desk, the restaurnant or any of the other staff.

No complaints at all.

Lovely European ambiance, with a cafe downstairs, ordered a delicious breakfast for pickup and ate back in my room. Beautiful long term livable room with a full kitchen, could have made any meal there. Away from downtown in a quieter neighborhood.

Small complaints only - Older building with radiator heating, whistling noises when it kicked in and was too hot so ended up cracking a window. As a light sleeper and preferring colder temps, it was annoying but not awful. Lights from appliances lit up the entire room, again light sleeper, I just covered them with something handy. A lot of noise down the hall, sounded like a party or game night or something. I didn’t complain, so not sure how they would have handled it, but that could happen anywhere.

The managers on day and overnight shifts were so HELPFUL with checkin, parking and extra needs which was greatly appreciated. We did forget bottled water so we were thankful for the complimentary water in the frig!

It's this time of year where the air conditioners weren't in the windows yet but the rooms were warm and stuffy. We went to open the windows and some didn't open and some did but didn't have screens. We were grateful for the ceiling fans!

Very pleasant surprise. Booked it on a whim. The Plaza has an unassuming exterior then a warm and fuzzy interior. Loved all the feels of yesteryear. Great vintage looking cafe. Food was delicious! Rooms were smaller but had fully loaded kitchens like a condo would have. Beds were very comfortable. The entire two night experience was a Great departure from corporate chain hotels. Parking was convenient with in and out privileges and reasonably priced. Close to many downtown venues. I'd return.

If you are looking for a pool and hot tub, this isn't the hotel for you. However they offer a beautiful conference room and dining area for breakfast and lunch.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at The Plaza Hotel. It was impeccably clean, and we loved the thoughtful amenities, such as the comfortable slippers, the handy Keurig coffee maker, and even a special towel for makeup. The yoga mat was also a nice touch. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and provided any assistance we needed. Overall, it was a really great experience!
