Hides Hotel

super good location, cheap price, very good value for money. the hotel has a very long history for almost 150 years, famous in the past in Cairns, worth to visit and stay for a short period. there are a lot of rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor. super huge terrace on the 2nd floor we found it very quite inside the hotel, though the birds make noises outside. the rooms are actually renovated, though the shower heads and taps are not changed to the modern type. we first booked for 1 night then decided to extend to 5 nights. this hotel is way better value for money than many others in Cairns, a true 3.5 star hotel, have a lot of potential.

The location is great, you can get around the city if Cairns easily by food, everything you could possibly need is close by, I was a little worried that it would be noisy from the pubs and clubs close by, but there was no noise at all. The room was clean, the air-conditioning worked well, and there was enough room, so it didn't feel cramped. Breakfast was good for the price, the staff were all friendly and helpful. The balcony is a great place to sit and enjoy breakfast or an evening watching the world go by after a big day exploring Cairns.

The beds are old and were a little uncomfortable they had a mattress protector on that was meant for a double bed, not a king-size bed, that kept bunching up and had to be fixed during the night. And extra pillows and a mattress topper would be handy.

The room was good,the location was great it was in the town centre and walking distance to everything including the lagoon pool, Woolworths, the island marina, Cairns Central shopping centre, the price was reasonable, plenty of pubs food shops markets and other attractions to keep you occupied all day. I used a hire car and visited Paranella Park, Mamu sky walk, Kuranda and Trinity Beach. I enjoyed Cairns and will be back if Im after a cheap place to stay I will use Hides Hotel again.

The changing water temperature in the shower. Using a third party website where you think your booking through the hotel direct but you start to question the USA address and the $300.00 fees and taxes. I saved money using Booking.com.

The location of this hotel is excellent it is in the heart of the city, a short walk to hundreds of eateries, bars, clubs, massage, the coastline. The heritage section of the hotel boasts a large outdoor balcony overlooking the mall which is draped in large fig trees and is a lovely place to spend the afternoon having a drink and reading a book, or jjust watching the people walk by.

There was no streaming facility to the TV, something I have come to depend on these days, I rarely watch free to air TV. My room was at the end of the building and was located across from a hotel, the noise of music and patrons easily penetrated the single pane windows.

The staff were wonderful, accommodating, and understanding. Checking in I felt very welcomed. When I was going to check out, I was running a bit late, I told the man at the front desk and he assured me everything was fine and to take my time.

Biggest gripe would be the $100 security deposite that doesn't get returned to my account for 3 working days after my stay. Definitely excessive. I've stayed at multiple other places in the area. Of the few that require deposites, they are all instantly returned. I wasn't a fan of how the curtains in the room could not be opened. They were bolted in place so I couldn't look out the window clearly. As with most places, for some reason, they don't have a real queen bed. It's just two singles pushed together with a queen sized sheet. It's super uncomfortable.

Super clean rooms, spotless. Perfect location right in the city, walking distance to everything. Supermarket across the street. Underground (paid) parking is reasonably priced and very handy. Most of the staff were great, helpful, professional and friendly. Good value for the price.

The noise - if you are in a room on the side where Gillian’s Bar is. Noisy drunk tourists screaming their heads off late at night, not the fault of the hotel, I would just make sure you get a room in the hotel either in the middle / inside section, or the opposite side to Gillian’s. Or pack some ear plugs. The double bed is 2 single beds pushed together, so there is an uncomfortable gap in the middle. Outside their is a fixed sign / painted on advertising “standby rates $89” but when our flight was cancelled, we returned and enquired about the standby rate only to be told there was none.

Clean room. Great water pressure for showers. Huge television. The staff were always friendly and the cleaners exceptional in their work. The wifi worked well at all times. Everything we wished to do was in walking distance in the city. The location was excellent.

We only had one chair in the room instead of two, which would be expected for two persons. The noise of party goers came through our window every night, waking us. The breakfast was a real letdown. I would prefer fresh fruit juice served, instead of cordial, and perhaps some yoghurt to put on cereal.

I didn't have the breakfast this time round,... but have had it before and it has always been good,...they have upped the price by 3$ though,...the toast always smells inviting,...

the television didn't work properly mainly because the batteries in the remote I think,... it did NOT provide internet access sufficiently manually,... and would NOT support device connections,...so I just listened to the radio,... one of the main reasons I continue to return to Hides is that they provide stable internet access over one or two days pretty much for free,...

I love the location. The shops and transports are just walking distance, and so is the Esplanade 😍. I love walking to Cairns Central 😂 to spend on shoppings 🛍. I love the room I was booked in because it’s closer to the Guest Laundry, and I gets a ride on a lift 🛗 up to the second floor and down to the ground floor 😄. Thank you so much for the stay ✅🙏.

I cannot see anything I didn’t like. I enjoyed my stay.

Staff awesome and went beyond all expectations The location excellent for what I wanted to do and see I loved that they are doing their best to keep history alive

The downstairs tenants, PJ O'Brien made as much noise as they could at closing time (1am) tipping all the empty bottles into a bin. Everynight the same. Not Hides fault, but it was annoying. The locked frosted window was not good. Some fresh air would have been nice.
