The Benson Hotel

Great central location, really enjoyed the size and location of the pool - it was fantastic for a morning swim. We really enjoyed the quality and variety of the breakfast - it set the tone for the day

The bed was too soft for me! I'd prefer something firmer. Double glazing would be handy - the noise from Gilligans, at the close of the night club, 2-4am was quite significant

The location is great. There's live music at the bar on Friday and Sat my hubby and I enjoyed while the kids stayed in our room. Very convenient and the facilities are well maintained. The interior decor are great too. The room service is great except they're not refilling the tissue box. Overall it great and clean.

The lowest you can set in the room aircon is 23°. When sharing room with kids, 23 can be too warm to sleep through the night. I hoped it can be set to lower tempt. There seem to be a bin truck at 4 in the morning which wakes us up too. Housekeeping: the tissue box was not refilled at all. My dad in law's room was the same. The door latch in the toilet isn't working

Modern room, very central, can reach all the places with in walking distance. Rusty market just across the road, Shopping Centre just a street behind, 5 mins walk to lagoon and night market. Surrounded with varieties restaurant. Breakfast buffet serving daily, taste good. Daily room service was excellent thumbs up to house keeping team

Reception staffs were unfriendly, poor connection with customers. No smiling and bad attitude. It gave us the feeling of unwelcome The A/C in the room was set and locked with 23 degree. We are so hot at night that we have to sleep with the window open. It was strange because the A/C outside the room on the hall way was freezing cold but not in the guest room. We asked reception regarding the A/C issue they cannot do anything because it was part of building set up which i don't quite understand. But apart from that this place is not a bad choice. 👍

Large family room with plenty of space to move and room for luggage. Clean and tidy.

Only a few packets of instant coffee (yuk) and earl grey tea (yuk) and a couple of packets of green tea (not enough). Maybe some ordinary black tea would be good if you do not wish to provide a variety. No shower caps. Minimal toiletries - no cotton buds, face washers, sanitary bags etc. Not sound proof - neighbours were noisy, as I am sure we were noisy to the neighbors too!

We were there for a 21st. there were 4 functions in that night and only 1-3 bar staff at any given time. The queue was often 5 -6 deep rather hit around the bar, so the wait was up to 20 minutes for a drink. Because the staff were under the pump they were short, bordering on rude, drinks were slopped into glasses (more spirit around the glass than in it) and they didn’t keep up with the bar i.e. who was next to be served. It ruined what was a really nice weekend and this was in contrast to the very friendly reception and restaurant staff.

Beds and pillows were amazing! Very clean and updated rooms, exactly what you'd expect from a hotel in heart of city.

The breakfast was not good, unfortunately 🥺 I had paid extra on the room especially for the breakfast, should have gone else where. Got to the buffet just before 9am (buffet finishes at 10am) There were no eggs, I went back up a couple of times but they weren't re-filled. The Juice dispensers were nearly empty. The sausages would have killed someone had they been thrown at them, they needed a steak knife to be cut, ended up not eating them! Very disappointing, especially at the end of a great trip otherwise.

I was only in the room one night, and a short one at that. The staff helped me to my room, and even accommodated me after checkout, allowing me to leave some of my luggage with them for a couple of days. I only had the one meal, and expected a standard breakfast buffet. When I showed up, sure enough there was buffet hardware set up, but no hot food; plenty of croissants, breads, cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. The staff handed me a list of items to choose from, and prepared exactly what I wanted; they even made me a cappuccino. It was lovely.

This is an older but well maintained and updated hotel, so this is a very minor negative. The bathroom fixtures are a little dated, but fully functional and, other than the first impression, not an issue.

Where do I start!!! The team at the Benson Hotel were exceptional no matter what department the service was above and beyond!!! Front counter team were so welcoming and happy to have a laugh and get extra towels for you when you needed them House keeping was excellent coming into our room each day after exploring to cleanly made beds and fresh towels was just what we needed after a long day. Buffet breakfast every morning was delish and had everything you would want at breakfast!! The dinner was also delightful cannot fault them on food at all!! We loved that they accompanied kids!! The kids loved the pool and the outside resturant area had so much room to run around and enjoy themselves!! And we can't forget happy hour oh my gosh so delish and cheap the bar stuff were so friendly and looked after us all night they were happy to have a chat and were just some of the best bar team I've seen. Special mention to Ebony and the man with the long hair (so sorry forgot your name) for looking after my brother and just being absolute legends we all came to Cairns for my brothers make a wish as he has CF (Cystic Fibrosis) he just turned 18 in May and they honestly went above and beyond!!! And I thank them greatly for that they made his trip even more special!! I 100% will only stay at the Benson when we come to Cairns again!! You'd be stilly not to stay here!! P.s the new refurbished rooms STUNNING and did I mention the beds were so bloody comfortable!!!!

location was phenomenal. Walk straight down the street to hit the reef terminal and it’s takes only minutes to walk anywhere! the pool area was perfect and restaurant has a fantastic outdoor patio, and the staff were very helpful (letting me leave my bags, helping with directions etc.)

The lobby is nice but could use some art or mirrors on the walls. The bathroom light took a long time to turn on and would flicker a lot. Plus the hairdryer didn’t work. There weren’t any face cloths, and there was a towel and a juice box left by other guests so they clearly weren’t cleaning very well.

I was in room 407 and from daylight the was this awful stomping and movement in the room directly above. It disturbed my morning peace. There was no chance of a small sleep in. Unsure if you have a gym in Level 5 or if it was inconsiderate parents of noisy, running kids. Take your disruotive and active offseping to a park if they must run, as opposed to disturbing other guests!! Selfish and inconsiderate people!!!
