Steigenberger Hotel Hamburg

The location is phenomenal, the hotel is extremely clean, and the staff is very helpful!

It was uncomfortably warm in our room. We are American but are very used to European air conditioning. This was even warm by European standards.

Not a refill of water in the room - Considering that the Minibar was disactivated, it would be nice to have a bottle of water every day. Not a refill of Shower gel once it got finished.

Great location. The building was recently renovated. Very convenient parking facility under the hotel (not free). The hotel & room interior design and details are signs of 5 start hotels. Eating at the restaurant (breakfast and dinner) was a great experience. The restaurant staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel has a fitness space, but it is modest in size and equipment.

The receptionist who checked us in had an attitude that gave a bad impression. It puzzles me how hotels (4 or 5 stars) fail to fix or act on this recurring major problem. Unfriendly (or arrogant) staff who either hate their job or the people they are supposed to serve should not be allowed in the hospitality industry. Put a smile on your damn face and pretend that you care about what you do, and the people whose satisfaction is a guarantee to the survival of your business, or change your job! Also, the pillows were disappointingly soft.

Very good. The hotel is excellently located, with access to all the best areas either by a short walk or via the near-by metro lines (including the S1 to the airport and the U which goes all over Hamburg. Do yourself the favour, the Hamburg metro lines are excellent and with all the construction happening faster and less expensive than a taxi. Buy the daily ticket for, like, 8 Euros). Everything about the room is good: the bed is comfortable, hard and soft pillows, black-out curtains, good shower (fine mist but with lower pressure it works very well), and I think (though I did not use) HDMI link to the television so you can plug in your own device and watch movies or perhaps even work. One quirk, which I think is actually good: the mini bars are empty but you can purchase items from a refrigerator next to the check-in counter. Also, the service was excellent and the staff very friendly. I'll definitely stay there again.

Nothing about the hotel itself, though it seems to be on or near a route for emergency vehicles, so (at least the two nights I've spent there) passing (I think) ambulance sirens woke me up, though that's an issue with all cities and something that a pair of earplugs would solve. But that's nitpicking.

I liked the room very much and the cleanliness of the hotel, but other than that, there was not much to offer. The flowers for the "Pfingsten" in the lobby were really nice as they flourished during the week.

We were informed that it was still in the last stretch of renovation and unfortunately, the restaurant / bar was not open, although it seemed done. I can feel that when the renovation will be finalized and all facilities will be available, it will be much warmer atmosphere. Just ensure there is TLC in the atmosphere.

All functional aspects were working, something not all hotels get right, no matter the star rating. The bed was comfortable, the shower was convenient and with stable temperature and pressure, it was clean. The staff was attentive on check in and showed interest in how the stay was on check out. Location was very good, on the edge of a fancy area with shops (could've been 300 meters into that area, but still good).

I'd suggest more generous toiletries replenishment, bottles are tiny. ideally would add a handrail in the shower (but few hotels have this). But they were small details.

I was originally meant to stay somewhere else and I am so glad I stayed here instead. Location is fantastic. You are in-between the city centre and harbour. There is a train station directly opposite & if you stick with line U3, takes u to all the central points. Getting around Hamburg is super easy! The hotel did not disappoint and I loved my room. It is spacious, bathroom has a great shower and you sink in the bed. My sister wants to go to Hamburg and 100% will recommend this hotel. When I go back, I will stay here again!

Absolutely nothing!

Fantastic hotel! The staff were all awesome, very friendly, welcoming and helpful when ever we asked for anything. Even delivering breakfast to the room 10 minutes before check out time. I messaged the hotel to explain we may actually be very early for checkin, they had our room ready. The Steigenberger is so convenient to all the areas, it is also only one train directly from the airport (takes about 35 mins) and the S-Bahn training station is a one minute walk, which is also good for going further a field. It's walking distance to most places from the hotel as it's truly in the middle of the city. Also, that breakfast was great!

Great location: most Hamburg landmarks are within walking distance, and there is an S-Bahn station basically under the hotel, directly connected to the airport and many other relevant locations. There is also a very close U-Bahn station, again well connected (note: the S-Bahn station is underground, the U-Bahn one is overground...). Luxury shops, non-luxury shops, the historic centre and Rathaus are all close by. Staff: the reception and restaurant staff were very kind and professional, and the concierge will help you and sell you tickets for bus tours and other attractions. Size of the room: spacious room and bathroom with separate toilet door. Also windows that actually open. Breakfast: very good choice, good food, quick service, nice staff Garage: directly under the hotel, with direct lift to lobby and rooms.

Price: this is a good 4-star hotel which claims 5 starts and charges accordingly Garage: expensive, narrow ramps, number plate recognition does not work, and above all: no charging poles for electric cars (and the single one near the hotel was always occupied, including by a non-electric car). Decor: minimalist and simple, but a bit on the bland side. I guess it will have its supporters, but not me! ;-) Room service: in a hotel with claimed 5 stars and a Nespresso machine in the room, I expect a refill of the coffee pods every day. They were available for free at the reception, but you don't want to go there in your pyjamas at 7 AM.

Good location. Modern. Practical with car valet service. Good that one could open the window.

Quite austere. It felt more like a good 4-star hotel with a doorman. The shower was in the bathtub. Not comfortable and quite dangerous with slippery, non-flat surface. Also water easily came out on the floor. A bathroom in a 5-star hotel should have a walk-in shower. The gym is only accessible by a steep stair, one floor up (also people with reduced mobility may want to gym...). When we checked in at 14.30 we were told sharply that the room isn't ready as if it was our fault that we arrived too early.
