An old hotel but has character and appears well maintained with sympathetic modernisation. Room was lovely. Receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. Good breakfast with both hot and cold buffets. Plenty of parking space. Location is ok being a 10-15 minute walk into town in one direction , and the war museum/Anzac Avenue in the other direction.

The bedroom doors are very noisy if left to close on their own - they bang shut. Unfortunately on my first night I seemed to have a lot of inconsiderate people around me doing this. Perhaps the hotel could attach some sort of tensioner to the doors so they shut slowly. The fire alarm also went off (twice!) in the early hours of the morning the same night, but I'm sure that's not a frequent occurrence. I guess I was just unlucky all round that particular night!

The location was fabulous! We were able to walk into the city centre and to markets in surrounding suburbs. The room was perfect for our needs! Secure parking was fabulous. Staff were welcoming & helpful. We really enjoyed our stay! One of the highlights for my young child was watching and counting the fish each time we walked past the tanks! We walked past them a lot! We enjoyed the courtyard and the beautiful old buildings! The rooms are renovated inside.

We were not given enough towels to begin with, but housekeeping quickly rectified that. We didn’t eat at the restaurant as it was priced outside of our budget, unfortunately.

I had originally booked our stay in Canberra at the Deco Hotel, but because they couldn't guarantee a room with a balcony I switched to the Mercure. And what a good decision that turned out to be! It was one of the first hotels to be built in Canberra. There are paintings in the hotel showing how isolated its early existence was. The rooms are on two floors surrounding a central courtyard-cum-garden. Our room was comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was an extensive buffet with a short-order chef on hand for individual requests. We used the car park for one night ($15), but found that the fun area of Canberra (e.g., Lonsdale St) was a short walk away. I would definitely book again here if we return to Canberra!

Minor: Paying for parking ($15)

We enjoyed our stay at the Mercure. We liked the fact that the hotel was a heritage building. We loved the on-site pub. It was very good value. The hotel was about a 20-minute walk from the city centre. Overall, we would have enjoyed the location and Canberra more if we had rented a car. The tourists sites are very spread out. It would also have been nice to visit some places outside of the city.

Again, the location was a bit far from the city centre. Also, since this is a heritage hotel, it isn’t accessible. It was a bit challenging for us to bring our large suitcases to our room. Even to enter the hotel, there is a flight of about 8-10 stairs.

Old heritage style hotel. Very clean and tidy. Good area. A short walk to the war memorial and a short drive into the central area. Easy to navigate to other attraction from this hotel

The view out our window onto a roof top. looked very industrial. We kept the curtain closed the whole time. Also the house keeping was very good the first time but was a half hearted attempt the second time. Done very poorly. The fact of having to pay for off street parking is very disappointing. Also the restaurant need a bit of a make over. Looks and feels more like a pub.

Good facilities in good location. Pleasant staff

Not sure if the problem is with your website or the hotel. I searched for hotel with parking. Paid thinking parking was included but charged extra $15 for parking. Now whilst not a great amount in itself, it would have influenced my choice of hotel had I known the tariff did not include parking. Perhaps it needs to be clearer on your site as to whether the parking is extra or included. It appears that I assumed incorrectly that it was included, but it was not clear until the big sign at the desk announcing the parking fee. Seems like not the first time the staff have had to deal with this enquiry and they did so well enough. Still, getting surprises can taint an experience, even if the amount is small.

Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Room was very clean, quiet, and serviced during my stay which was nice. Exceptional water pressure with the shower. Seemed to be well insulated - could not hear guests in neighbouring rooms. Easy walking distance to the Canberra Centre and a pleasant walk.

There are no lifts. Reception staff took my bag upstairs for me, but I carried it down on departure. Overall, well overdue for a make over. Impressions were drab and outdated.

The hotel had a lot of history and lovely features. The location was excellent for Canberra City Centre. The room was a good size and very clean. The bathroom quite big.

The pillows were too thin. We had to carry our cases up stairs - I think there may have been a lift - I saw one sign but I didn't find it. The tea and coffee making area was a bit squishy - it was one side of the wardrobe with a sliding door that kinda got in the way a bit.

The 1930s character was charming. Drinks in the " comfy chair room" were nostalgic. We were able to walk to the war memorial and into the city for dinner ( we are both in our late 60s ) The secure parking for our car and caravan was convenient ( $15 cost)

You could hear the people in the next room quite easily, not sure if that was because it was a connecting room or the fact that the hotel was built in the 1930s.

We stayed in the loft room. It was cosy and family friendly. We felt at home. The courtyard was very nice. Would like to stay in a courtyard facing room with a balcony next time. Would stay here again.

Both the bins in the bathroom and kitchen had no bun liners. We were also downgraded from a courtyard facing loft room with balcony to a room facing the road, due to heavy rains causing damage to the room. As a result, we were offered free parking and breakfast instead. It would have been nice if reception had communicated to the dining room that we were entitled to breakfast because when we showed up, we were not on their list and we had to wait for them to confirm with reception. It was a little awkward.
