I loved the location, it was very remote, and quite which is what I wanted. The staff was amazing, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the property and the offerings. I would love to plan a yoga retreat there. The room was awesome, the pool was small, but not overly chlorinated so it didn't irritate my eyes. I really got to relax. The property was just beautifully laid out. We even did a medicinal tour of the property with Josh who was wonderful and so knowledgeable. And our Tour guide for Caracol was so amazing!

The property was beautiful and well maintained with lots of beautiful trails to enjoy. The staff were all friendly and seemed to really care about making our experience the best it could be. I appreciated that we could have all our meals right on the property and we could book all our tours through them. I would highly recommend.

The breakfasts were delicious and the dinners were always pretty, but weren’t mind blowing taste wise. Belize has amazing food and I didn’t think the dinners quite represented that. I would still stay again though.

My teenage son and I had an excellent stay at Mariposa Jungle Lodge. It was comfortable and very clean and the service and food were excellent. The birding on site was fabulous too. My son and I took turns in the porch hammock-- it was lovely and very relaxing. I would stay here next time I return to Belize. A few words of warning, the resort is on the outskirts of San Ignacio, so if you're taking a tour that says it picks up in San Ignacio, confirm they pick up here. One (St. Jerome's Xunantunich and Cave Tubing-- excellent tour, highly recommended) confirmed and then charged me $75 for pick up and drop off at Mariposa. It's about a 15-20 minute drive each way-- so it's not trivial. We were the first to be picked up and then spent the next hour or more driving around to collect the others. (Again, that was an excellent tour-- maybe our favorite-- so I'm not knocking the tour.) We did the ATM tour with Pacz Tours and they did not charge extra for pick-up, so I think it depends. Also, another group cancelled our Caracol tour without telling me. I emailed them to confirm my pick-up time the next morning, and was told the night before that the trip was cancelled. Mariposa organized one on the spot for the next morning so the day was saved. Plus, it was a private tour with none of the "pickup and wait" issues we had with the Xunantunich tour. Next time I would just go with tours organized by Mariposa and skip the hassle. Finally, my son was able to access wifi for emails and texts and music just fine in the room. But I needed to do an hour or two of work most days, and found I was not able to download documents in the cabana. It was fine for email and texts. I went to the TV room and the wifi was fine there. It wasn't a private area, but I was the only one in there so it worked.

It's a great place-- I had to go to the lounge to download documents for work, but that was the only issue and it was not a big problem. Don't forget your bug spray!

This is the perfect choice if you want few people, excellent accommodations and delicious meals. The staff works hard to make each day perfect and we’d recommend at least 4 nights as we surely weren’t ready to leave after 3 to hit the beaches. If you want party action, this probably shouldn’t be your choice. Often saw comments that the meals were expensive but they are preparing beautiful meals for such a spall group of people and we think they were fair. Because it’s remote, we found it a good choice to hire a driver that knows the area rather than rent a car. ,good place to bring a family.

Nothing to dislike

The staff at Mariposa Lodge were exceptionally friendly, courteous and attentive to all of our needs. Norma prepared delicious meals for us everyday. Our bartender and wait staff were always welcoming and willing to provide advice on places to visit in the area. Gladimir, the general manager, made sure we were prepared for our daily tours and had supplies take with us. All that we had to do everyday was relax, enjoy the beautiful surroundings and chat with other visitors and staff. It was a lovely vacation at Mariposa!

nothing!

The property is set up to give you privacy. The cabanas are lovely and ours had a little deck with a hammock that was great for reading and relaxing. There is a nice pool area with ping-pong and other games nearby, and there are some nice walking trails through the jungle. Above all, the staff was exceptional. They were able to accommodate our request for vegan food and the food they made was delicious. They were also helpful in setting everything up for our tours, prepping us for our outings, and basically helping us in every way. Truly amazing people.

There was some road construction so there was some noise from that but that is so minor and just a fact of life—nothing to do with the resort itself.

Mariposa and it’s staff were absolutely fabulous. They were accommodating and attentive, making it a great place for both couples and families. The food was fabulous and they accommodated all dietary restrictions. The jungle location was a great spot for bird watching and accessing the surrounding wilderness.

Everything! The property was clean and well maintained and felt like an authentic jungle lodge experience. Our cabana was tucked into the property so it felt nice and private and the pool and activities room was easily accessible. I highly recommend the meal plan. Norma made us an amazing breakfast each morning to gear us up for a day of adventure and it was nice to return each evening to a three course meal made with fresh local ingredients. We’re now spoiled 😜. We woke up each morning to explore the property and hike. The full property hike is challenging but we did it with two young kids who loved it. Robby was great and attentive and was quick to make sure we were comfortable. Glad, the property manager, arranged custom tours for us so we could experience the local area without stress, especially traveling with kids. Definitely recommend the ATM cave and Mayan ruins. Our guides were fantastic and gave us a real look at what Belize has to offer. Definitely arrange to have Mariposa pick you up at the airport! They came and picked us up and even stopped so we could eat after our full morning of travel. The owners, Paul and Aline, made us feel like family. We stayed 4 nights but wish we’d stayed longer. Lots to do! Everyone is very friendly snd helpful. Thank you Mariposa Jungle Lodge!!

There was a little construction on the road but didn’t detract from our stay.

The people who run the establishment are kind, attentive and professional. The cabins are much bigger than they appear in the photos, so we very much enjoyed our King Garden cabin, with its hammock and outdoor shower. The setting is beautiful and they have well-maintained trails and a bird viewing tower. The breakfasts were huge and delicious, and the 3-course dinner was both tasty and well-presented.

The road to get there is very challenging, especially after a rain. We thought we had rented a 4-wheel drive, but hadn’t. We nonetheless made it with challenges. After a day of the road drying out it, was easily passed. They are doing construction on both access roads leading to the lodge, so you should be sure to ask which is currently in “better” condition. The meals and cocktails were delicious, though definitely more expensive than at other places we stayed. Perhaps that can be explained by the remote location.

The property was very well kept. It was very clean. The staff was amazing, very attentive, and overall very nice. We had the property to ourselves which was pretty cool. The couples massage was great and well needed. Also, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and super nice. The next time we go to Belize, we will definitely be looking to stay at Mariposa.

We have no complaints.
