We were actually due to fly home and our plane was cancelled so we needed a 1 night stay within easy access back to the airport the following morning. It was so very handy to be close to food and drink places. Near to the beach too. The staff at reception were very nice and helpful too, booking us a taxi to return to the airport. Also due to a cancelled flight home they let us check in early. Very much appreciated as we were so tired. We enjoyed our short time in Varna and would now like to return, will definitely look at this gem of a hotel for when we do. Thank you

Charming experience in the nicest part of the city. The hotel is impressive, artsy and unique. Burov cafe on the 1st floor is perfect, and there are great restaurants and cafes very nearby. Service was awesome, thanks to the kindness of Stanislava and Georgi. If you plan to stay in Varna- it should be your choice.

I like the staff of this hotel, very nice and helpful. The hotel interior design is very nice, each room is decorated differently. Breakfast is good and has good coffee, but it would be great if you could chose fom 2 options every day (french breakfast is too sweet for my taste). There is parking in front of the hotel (15 leva/day) but the parking should be extended for more cars as there are only 5 places. We love the cats outside the hotel, they are great company and very friendly.

The bed was very small in our room, not confortable for 2 people. Should be changed to a wider bed. The cleaning was not consistent, we had 3 days in a row when nobody came to take trash, replenish shower gel, etc. When they came, the cleaning was good.

It was our second visit to Royal Hotel Varna and the fact that we returned following summer already tells a lot about how much we enjoyed our stay. If you are into a romantic trip into the past but with all modern amenities, this is the place to go. Rooms are generous, filled with light and very clean. The furniture is antique or antiquated style, but fully functional and bed comfy (on the soft side, but still allowing a good night's sleep). If you have included breakfast, they offer an interesting approach: every day they have a certain type of breakfast (English, Continental, French) and if you do not fancy their proposal you have another 2 choices to chose from. If breakfast is not included, Cafe Burov on the ground floor offers a large array of choices for all tastes. This time we also tried a massage from the varied list on offer. It was pleasant and the lady knows what she is doing. We definitely plan to return next summer.

The only small complaint regarding the stay is the fact that the doors of the antique wardrobe in room 103 where we stayed are squeaking on a very unpleasant high tone. We are certain that there must be something that can be done to fix this.

You really feel like your in a nice place as soon as you walk through the door. The staff are very friendly an everything is in top condition. It's an easy 5 minutes walk from the train station but a whopping 45 minutes walk from the bus station. A taxi was only 6 lev. There are bars and restaurants outside the door or the main night life area and beach are about 15minutes walk away.

Not the hotels fault but the tourist map they hand out is a bad joke some idiot thought it was a good idea to have a map with vague splodges where streets are supposed to be.

The hotel's receptionists were polite and welcoming answering any questions! Both times we stayed in this hotel we arrived at lunchtime and they let us check-in early after I gave them only few hours notice in advance of my arrival time! It is a boutique gem tucked in the greek quarters of the city and it's 5 min walk from the central train station, also from the sea port of Varna, 10 min walk to the Sea Garden park and the beach with all the restaurants and bars, the Roman thermal bath archeology site is near and the city's cathedral. Visit to the centre with many shops and cafes is also a nearby walk. The hotel is next to a restaurant "Stariyat chinar" where you can have lunch/dinner. There was no noise in the rooms, the air-conditioning worked perfectly and beds were comfortable so we had a very good night sleep. The hotel even though small has a lift. There is Spa services at this property unfortunately I did not have the time to make use of them this time. The rooms were tastefully decorated especially the twin room that we stayed the first night. There were slippers, toiletries and towels provided.

Spacious, retro style appointed corner room with two small balconies offering different views over central Varna. Classic iron cut room's key as opposed to ghastly magnetic cards used in most other hotels these days. Ornamented wooden furniture, Comfortable King size bed. Small persian-style carpet. Hotel's coffee shop serving wide range of a la carte breakfasts from healthy granola and yoghurt to classic English with a Bulgarian twist or two, making it even tastier than most English breakfasts served in England. There was no need for me to use spa facilities during late summer's stay as hotel's excellent location is only a 10 minute walk to Varna beach, but I trust they are also offering elegance and quality typical of the entire establishment. Finally, I very much appreciated an option to make a reservation without providing a credit card no. and pay on arrival instead. In a cash-based economy such as Bulgaria's this was both practical and yet another reminder of the old world's bygone era whose values and practices Hotel Royal is so successfully aiming to reflect in pretty much all they do.

What's there not to like? :)

Royal Hotel is a wonderful place in Varna. It is a few minutes walk from the heart of Varna. The port Varna is very close as well with its variety of restaurants and entertainments. The central railway station is located in a short distance too. The rooms are cozy and comfortable. Bathroom is clean and large enough. It’s equipped with everything you need. We stayed at the hotel just for one night and didn’t manage to enjoy the spa quarter. We definitely will be coming back in our next trip to Varna. Don’t forget to enjoy the amazing breakfast and great coffee in Burov cafe.

It is a bit tricky to find park place.

We chose this hotel for our short vacation in Varna based on photos and reviews found on booking.com and were pleased to find that they were both accurate and reflecting reality. Royal Hotel is , what I would describe as, a "boutique hotel" as it only has max. 20 rooms and its location is in the old part of town. From what we saw, all rooms face the nearby streets (building is on a corner), but fortunately if windows remain closed, noise is dampened to a pleasant level. Rooms are equipped with AC, which proved necessary in august. We stayed in room 103 exactly on the corner and had a small balcony (but it cannot be used to stay outside as it is very small). Interior design of the entire hotel (including rooms) reflect the era when hotel was built (around 1905) and show a lot of care and good taste. Rooms are very clean. Breakfast concept is one that we never came across before: themed breakfast every morning (English breakfast, Continental breakfast, French breakfast, etc) which is interesting as "Cafene Burov" (where breakfast is served on hotel ground floor) is quite small and does not allow Swedish Buffet lay out. One of the problems in the area is parking space and hotel offers only a limited number of lots paid separately on a daily rate. There are other parking spaces belonging to the municipality, but payment by SMS does not work for mobile telephony providers outside Bulgaria and the concept itself it not suitable (max. time 3 hours). We warmly recommend Royal Hotel if you want to discover old town Varna as it is adequately located quite near to the beach (10 minutes walk), pedestrian zone (15 minutes), Sea Park (10 minutes).

Our booking did not include breakfast, so we were able to order both themed daily menu or a la carte. This is no longer possible if you have a "breakfast included" rate, which gives you far less choice for already spent money. We encourage Café staff to try and improve their English or make sure they correctly understand what customers demand in order to avoid misunderstandings
