The parking and availability of carts was good. The staff helpful and courteous and check in easy. Room was small but nice. We enjoyed the photographs in the hallways and would have liked a bit more information. I am a history buff and wonder if you could have someone, like a summer student, research the background on the photographs and put them on the website. For example, what band is marching in the parade in 1950? We had an excellent dinner in the restaurant with great food and service and will return for that reason alone. However breakfast was a different story, see below. U
Breakfast the next morning was like going to a different restaurant. Service was very slow, the waitress forgot our order, and the food was not very good. The scrambled eggs were dry and not tasty, the toast was dry and only the hash browns were passable. Even the coffee was not as good as the night before. Very hard to explain. ? Rookie staff?

Guy at reception was extremely courteous and helpful. Overall, the hotel seems old but our room seemed to be in a newly built section of the building. Room was clean and comfortable. The shower and washrooms were very clean with everything working to order. There is a gas station with a mini-mart right next door which we found very convenient
If you are staying on the 5th or 6th floor, you are required to use a different elevator that the one which is closest to the reception desk. There is no proper signage on how to get to the other elevator though. We asked one of the cleaning staff who promptly pointed us in the right direction. Also, I had booked 2 queen beds but found only 1 bed when we entered the room. Went downstairs to reception to be told that the second bed is attached to one of the walls and to pull it down :). Both beds were comfortable to sleep in though.

Pool, Spa were nice additions to the services available. The Restaurant was relatively expensive, but also delivered on a higher quality than one would expect for a hotel in the area.
The restaurant delivered on quality but was expensive for what it was and it wasn't an exceptionally interesting menu. Traveling in the other direction a few weeks earlier, we found a restaurant downtown that was comparable in price but higher quality food, service and menu.

The location is great whether you're just "en-passant" (very close to Autoroutes 20 and 85 respectively), or - as in my case - having to do business in that very self-contained town along the St.Lawyrence river. This is a real hotel, with a lot of great facilitiies (for those who use them), i.e. indoor pool, restaurant (with an additional such facility anticipated to open within a few moths). Although the facility also caters to Snowmobilers, there is no noise to worry about, as these riders are well behaved. The rooms ( that i have stayed in over the years) are well appointed with very comfortable beds.
It's a minor issue, but for us older folks with arthrities, it would help if there was a bath-mat to use in the tub while taking a shower, as the tub is rather wide (good for those who like to take baths and the installed grab-handle made to assist exiting the bath, but not for holding on while showering. Also, there should be a vertical grab-handle at the edge of the tub, to assist while stepping into or out of the tub.....because the curved overhead curtain rod isn't designed as a safety-grabhandle!

The hotel was way beyond expectations for our first ever stay. Great parking, fantastic restaurant with delicious meals. nice clean pool for a late night swim. The food dispenser machine came in extremely handy.
Didnt have access to the hot tub area. Life guard at the pool didnt speak any english, But with use of a translator app, we worked out the basics.

Although there are two CHOICE-group properties within this town, and I'm a Diamond-member with that group, lately I've chosen to forego the membership points in favour of staying at the independent UNIVERSEL Hotel because its Value-for-Money-spent is far higher than the other 2 properties mentioned.
The access to the bedside wall-plug necessitates to kneel on the floor in order to blindly reach it beneath the bedside table. Frankly, this is inacceptable. In today's age....most everyone wishes to charge their phone overnight, yet still have it readily available at the same time. Why is this so very hard to understand considering the otherwise extremely well appointed room????

spacious room with comfy beds and pillows. plenty of fluffy towels and sufficient toiletries provided in the bathroom too. staff were friendly and helpful to a certain extent. thanks a lot for letting us transfer to a quiet room so we could rest after a very long drive. the keurig coffee machine was a lovely touch.
first room was located right next to speakers that were playing music all night - staff told us “the system was armed” so it will be playing music the entire night. I find this to be the most ridiculous of excuses. thankfully we were given a second room.

Convenient location, good size rooms, comfortable king bed, good supply of bathroom essentials, clean and fresh smelling upon entry.
No FREE Coffee/tea in the hotel room - since when did hotels not offer a lobby coffee/tea bar; not everyone wants a first class dining experience for breakfast just to get coffee - very inconvenient (3rd floor and expensive too purchase -$9), no ice on the floor, fridge setting set too low (diabetic)

Loved our stay!!! This hotel is amazing, very fancy, beds were very comfortable, looked at the reviews before and people were complaining about A/C but really? Obviously it makes noise as all others do but its nothing extreme and it works good! We absolutely loved our stay and will be coming back for sure. Up to date hotel!
Only thing I would say was that a face towel was left used behind the door. Maybe housekeeping should check behind doors? :)

The check-in/check-out process was superior to anything experienced before. It was a beautiful hotel and the room was exceptional. We were able to park in front of our room so unpacking was easy. Restaurant and bar were located in the hotel so no need to leave hotel after a long drive.
The indoor pool is not conducive to adult swimming. There was an outdoor pool for adults at an additional cost. We did not bother.
