We spent the night IN Mont Ste Michel!! Our hotel - Auberge St Pierre - was wonderful, and located right next to ramparts. Located on the one 'main street' of this historic little island, the hotel sits amid souvenir shops, restaurants, and a whole lot of historic old buildings. The staff was very helpful and nice -- we enjoyed dinner in the hotel's restaurant, and the restaurant manager very kindly tracked down drinks for us late in the evening. Our room was a short walk out the door to the ramparts, where we had wonderful views of the surrounding area.

When you book a room in an historical area, you can pretty much expect that there were no elevators, and we were glad we brought only what we needed for an overnight stay. Nothing we read mentioned the fact that there are two ways to get into the fortress -- one of which involves MANY stairs and ramps, and the other that pretty much accesses the "main street" without the stairs/ramps. Wish we had known that BEFORE we schlepped our bags halfway up the mountain, and then had to go back down to get to the hotel.

Our room was in a completely separate building (was not told this when we initially booked), Horrible and rude female front desk staff member at check-in (there was another female later that was extremely nice) who walked so fast to the upper building she had no patience to wait for someone who one is elderly and walks slower than a JOG and was pissed she had to wait. I waited for this person so she wouldn’t get lost—so when I heard her say something condensing—I yelled back, I am waiting since she has yet to catch up!

The hotel is located far enough from the crowd and yet near enough to the restaurants and gift shops. I am a Catholic and church is important to me. What a pleasant surprise that the hotel is so close to the chapel of St. Michael the Archangel, and that it is open all night.

This comment applies not only to this particular hotel but hotels in Europe in general and it is based on many personal experiences. The main focus is the bathroom, and in particular, the bathtub. For a short person like me, to get into the bathtub requires sitting on the edge, then swinging my legs into the tub. I am 82 and can still manage to do that, but what about the older, less agile guests. Plus, the half partition that does not do the job of preventing water from splashing all over the floor. It is really a puzzle to me that countries like France and Italy, known for great designs in clothes, cars, furniture, etc., cannot come up with a decent, practical bathroom. I love traveling in Europe but when I check into a hotel, I dread seeing what I will be seeing in the bathroom.

It was an authentic stay on the island. Historical building and large room & bathroom. All facilities you would expect were offered in the room. A quiet night and very nice start of the day the following morning. We didn’t mind the steps, what else would you expect on a hill? We took that into account when packing.

The parking was a bit confusing. Nice to have a separate parking for hotels, but the code to access the parking was only given by phone (not the welcome email) and the tickets didn’t work when paying. We had to call the help service twice to get off the parking. During the stay at the island, we found the choice for dinner and drinks very limited. Many restaurants were closed and those that were open only offered a very limited selection with small portions. After 10, all bars/restaurants were closed and no possibilities to get a drink anywhere except for vending machines with sodas. Perhaps the consequence of Covid the last two years, but does impact me recommending a stay on the island as opposed to just doing a day trip.

The room was in a separate building from the main hotel. It was quite a climb up to the room, but it was in a much quieter location, off the "main" street. It was small but adequate for two tall people, and the window looked out onto one of the smaller, upper streets. The toilet was in a smaller secondary room, and separate from the shower, good for two people getting ready in the morning. The beds were comfortable and we enjoyed staying there.

Because the window opened into a street that people were walking on during all hours of the day and night, we couldn't leave it open. A couple of times, passersby looked into the room through the partly opened window, not realizing that it was someone's hotel room. A surprise for both of us.

The location was of course incredible. The accommodation was very clean and large enough for our family of four.

The Abbey was closed due to staff strikes on the day we had a guided tour booked, so our money was pre-paid and then lost due to no access to the Abbey. This is France. Infuriating! The hotel restaurant was ok… but why oh why do French restaurant staff have to be so incredibly rude? I have never seen it in any other country. A little kindness and respect would not be so difficult?

An opportunity to stay in Mont St Michel is worth it considering the island is overrun by people throughout the day, so the only tolerable times are early in the morning and late evenings. The hotel provides that opportunity and we were very happy to take it. We stayed in the annex, which is seperate from the main hotel. I would recommend staying in the annex, as opposed to the main hotel, since it is away from the "main road" and you'll avoid at least some of the noise from tourists during the day, but also the workers clearing the trash in the mornings beginning around 6am. As said in the description, the annex requires a lot of stairs, but it is a beautiful half-timbered building and our room featured exposed wooden beams and beautiful patterned windows that had a partial view onto the bay. Considering the age of the hotel, annex, and island, the room was fantastic and very clean. The bathroom was great and the water pressure was great too, so you really cannot ask for more under the circumstances. The hotel breakfast is a bit on the expensive side, but you do have a good selection - scrambled eggs, sausages, crepes, baguettes, toast, croissants, pain au chocolate, fruit, yogurts, cheeses, cereals, etc. We had breakfast at the hotel each morning and did not regret it. The hotel restaurant is also a good option, since it has a lot of tables and we never needed a reservation. The other restaurants and hotels on the island were not as accommodating and so we only ate at the hotel, which had a good variety on their menu. While extremely busy, they did try to find an isolated table for us, so that our dog would be undisturbed, which was very nice of them.

Most reviews have already stated the obvious, but a standing fan would go a long way in helping move the air in the room, as well as mask some of the noise in the evenings (people) and morning (sea gulls).

The location is very good. Just a short walk from the shuttle drop off. The room was small but not unexpected in a building this old. Quite good enough for an overnight stop. Direct access on to the ramparts was very good. We felt breakfast, which was fairly typical of hotel breakfast any where, was too expensive but we had coffee and croissants and paid at the bar which was all we wanted. We also had dinner there and that was okay.

There is a premium for staying on the island overnight. This was what we wanted and were prepared to pay the extra. We would not stay on the island if we came again. There was nothing we didn’t enjoy about the hotel though

The staff has amazing English, at check in I “thrown off” by the different location. However, I was treated with patience and a gentle reminder in the fine print of the email, we would be in an annex. We had a little walk to the annex..the room(s)were beautiful and much to our happiness, the annex was closer to the Abbey which we were planning to visit the next morning. Also it is away from the noise of the Main Street. Had a drink at their restaurant! If staying overnight which we did, pack light!

Not enough time

Absolutely in the heart of Le Mont St Michel. The location is perfect. You get to wander the streets once most people have left and enjoy the serenity of the island. It's a 15th century building so it has heaps of character, with its huge beams and small characterful windows. It is small and lots of stairs but that is to be expected and they warned us of the many steps. You can drop your luggage off before you check in to save you carrying your bags when you explore. Very friendly staff and helpful.

The breakfast was continental and 18€. We didnt have it as it felt over priced. We had dinner in the restaurant the night before and unfortunately it was average food at London prices, which was a shame but again to be expected in a very touristy spot.
