Rooms were newly renovated and clean. Comfortable bed and pillows, very quiet place to sleep and good black-out curtains which many hotels do not understand how to do, so really appreciated that. We met friends for dinner in the restaurant and we enjoyed a nice dinner. We had not seen our friends in many years so we were the last ones in the restaurant but the person on duty never made a problem about it, he went about some of his clean up duties at other sides of the restaurant and left us alone to enjoy our evening which we appreciated. Very nice big breakfast with wide selection of fruit, cheese, meat, cereal, yogurt, you could also have freshly cooked eggs and a freshly made cappuccino as well as coffee and tea. We came down towards the end of the breakfast time and they were very nice about it, asked if we needed anything else before clearing things away and let us finish eating.

The only thing missing is an elevator if you have heavy bags and/or a mobility issue. We did not have too many so this was not a big problem for us to carry them up the stairs. Its a pretty, older house so this is probably why they do not have one.

Spacey, modern and clean suite with view of the forest. Good breakfast & bus stop for bus to Darmstadt central station directly in front of property. Friendly & supportive staff.

Breakfast was good, but not exceptional. No coffee machine / coffee is served from the kitchen. No 24hr reception.

The location was perfect to de-jet lag after a long flight. The building was classic German and wonderful. The room was spotless and very comfortable. The breakfast included was excellent in the German style. The property had access to a lake and many easy nature trails through the extensive forest.

The reception was never open and the language barrier made it difficult who to speak to about checkout.

Hotel was located in a beautiful, quite location outside the city in the forest. Perfect place for hiking and cycling with a lot of trails. The restaurant served a variety of food. Breakfast was very good and staf was very friendly and helpfull. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Good place when you are on a businesstrip.

Although booking.com mentioned that the reception was open at the hotel till 22.00, nobody was there on my arrival at 21.45. Luckely , I received an email with the information that my roomkey was placed into a locker at rhe enrranve of the hotel.

The breakfast was very good, with a friendly lady on the staff looking after a moderately full room. Here everything was as it should be and she also made it possible for us as two families to sit together. The room was very nice, modern, looked like recently renovated and it was pleasant and quite to sleep in, with a very clean and modern bathroom.

The TV in the room was not programmed and did not have any signal, so basically could not be tuned. I realise that this is not a real issue nowadays as people bring their own devices with them, but coming from the hotel industry, this is a no no. If you have a device in the room, it should work. Also, when we arrived the staff were bickering with each other and ignoring us standing by the reception trying to check in. Again, not an issue, as they could be having problems and trying to resolve them, but I expect prompt and friendly service and not people looking at you and then being ignored.

Everything. Plenty of free parking. Friendly communication with staff before and during our stay. Great room that worked perfectly for my small daughter and I. Quiet. Plenty of food opportunities. Staff was incredibly accommodating (e.g. offering to carry up my bag). Would stay there again any time and wish we could have stayed longer.

A very small point: bread not just buns for breakfast (but this is for the picky two year old)

The renovated historical villa in the forest near Darmstadt, the wonderful and accommodating lady running the breakfast service, a lovely breakfast every day, and the cleanliness of the room made it a perfect four-day stay at the Oberwaldhaus! We could even order dinner, although the restaurant was closed for a wedding celebration on our arrival.

While the bathroom was surprisingly spacious, our double room was really small.

Very quiet location, which is great. Good rooms, especially the bathroom. Comfy bed. Very clean.

Breakfast could have a few more warm options, but it is ok. Coffee and eggs come quick. Breakfast room can be a bit cold.

The location was beautiful.

The only plugs I could find were near the toilet and I am a bit weary about having my electronics too close to water. The other problem I had was there was no air conditioning/fan in my daughter’s room and the room was quite warm. When she opened the window, a few bees and wasps entered her room so keeping the window open was not an option. Other than that, it was quite nice.

The setting is beautiful and i love the history behind the building. The staff were all super friendly.

My travel companion has bad knees and struggled with the stairs, only 2 floors but no lift.
