We had a wonderful time in Rothenburg (it's like a place from a fairytale) and can highly recommend staying at the Wildbad hotel, which feels a bit like staying in a castle. It's surrounded by woodlands, so the view from our windows was stunning, but at the same time you're not far from the city, just a few minutes walk (note, however, that you either have to take a serpentine road up the hill or around 150 steps that lead up to one of the city gates, so be prepared for a good climb :D) The house itself is a historic spa hotel from around 1900 with several salons and even an in-house theatre. So there's a lot to discover if you wander the corridors, be careful though not to get lost because there's not a lot of staff around and the place can seem quite deserted at times. Staff at the reception is friendly and always ready to help - but there's no one around in the evening (we felt really sorry for a family who arrived around 10pm and asked us for help because they couldn't check in... no one answered the emergency number, and as far as we know they had to find another hotel in the city to stay at :/ )

Breakfast was good with several options for guests with no dietary restrictions. They did provide glutenfree options upon request, but vegan options were limited. Next time, we'd perhaps book the room without breakfast and just find a nice café in town instead.

I was amazed by this property, very grand enormous gothic style building in a wonderful wooded setting with gardens going down to the river. Short walk to the most beautiful medieval town (190 steps but fine for us) The hotel was in really good order with original opulent features and decoration. Large room with high ceiling and balcony. Breakfast room was like a ballroom. We arrived an hour before booking in time but this was not a problem.

It was very hot when we were there and could have done with aircon in the room, tho I can understand it wouldn’t really have suited the building. My wife found the whole place a bit spooky but I just loved it.

The property is grand and unique: an old church (or monastery). The rooms feel almost like a dormitory, but are spacious and comfortable. Each room has a bathroom, as if someone put dropped a pre-fab bathroom in a dorm room. Rooms feel newly remodeled and very clean. With the church atmosphere comes a sense of calm. We took morning walks through the wooded area and sat along the river, just listening to the water and leaves. We explored the top floor which had a chapel and some explanations for the history of the hotel. The property is massive and would make for a great retreat or conference center. There is a kids' playroom. At the back of the property are a set of stairs (~3 flights) which lead up to the southern gate of Rothenburg. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the City Center, depending on how distracted you get along the way. Very convenient, although notably not within the city walls itself. Breakfast was simple, but good. For the price, we found this to be an extremely worthwhile stay.

The road to the parking lot is uphill and windy. We didn't have any problems but I couldn't imagine passing another car on it.

This is a wonderful place. We hadn’t realised that it is a religious retreat house (Lutheran Evangelist) but that gave it an added feeling of peace. It is a beautiful old mansion right outside the town walls of Rothenburg o.d. Tauber (the river flows by the mansion) and one can walk into the centre of this beautiful medieval town in about ten minutes. The rooms are large (ours had a balcony) and have no TVs but this was an advantage for us!! The breakfast was the best we’ve seen, served in a magnificent dining hall. All the staff were wonderful and friendly. Our ambition is to return ASAP

Enormous historic property just brimming with character and gathering spaces. The staff was uniformly helpful and kind. Breakfast was incredible, tons of options and group seating in an elegant dining room. There are art installation and Lutheran pamphlets scattered about (the chapel and such are not accessible). Also a music festival was happening during our stay (we sometimes heard them and there was interesting lighting but was not loud at night). Close to the town by the stairs or with a car. Enjoyed the gardens and exploring the public spaces of the old building. Great atmosphere for telling ghost stories. Overall it was wonderful!

I’d love to know more about the building! And more late-night food options may have been helpful the first night

I asked for a quiet room and we were allocated a room at the end of a beautiful long corridor. The bathroom was tiny but the room was big enough and had three windows overlooking the grounds. The location of the hotel was perfect and close to town. Yes, there are a lot of steps to negotiate but the grounds are so beautiful and magical that this was no problem to us. Breakfast was good with a varied selection of breakfast items.

Bathroom was very small and more like a bathroom on a channel crossing ferry but clean and very functional.

Stunning location. Close to the old city, yet in the middle of the forest and no car sounds. The building was incredible, and our room was lovely and big. The hotel was full, but it is such a big building that you almost don't notice the other guests except at breakfast. We had a beautiful balcony, which was a nice place to have a glass of wine in the evening.

For the price we paid, a little more variety at breakfast would be nice. WiFi was a bit slow, but it is a huge old building, so it's not a big surprise

We only stayed one night at this huge historic building whilst visiting beautiful Rothenburg ODT on our Germany road trip and we’re made to feel very welcome. Our large room was clean and comfy with no TV (as expected), a bit old fashioned as you might expect in this type of building. As you’re approaching by the long winding road you do wonder how far you’ll end up from Rothenburg, but actually it does only take 10/15 mins to walk in, albeit via a lot of steps.

The hotel was beautiful, location was great, surrounded by woodland and lovely gardens to walk in, just a 10 minute walk to the beautiful and historic old town.

Could of had a coffee maker or water kettle in thd room so that you could have tea and coffee at night when you got back to your room. There is coffee machine on site but this cleaned and closed at 7.30pm. Other drinks alcoholic drinks are available at a cost.

Beautiful Hotel set in lovely grounds. The staff were excellent, very helpfull and approachable. Lovely walks around site. The bedroom was large and comfortable. The breakfast was great with a good selection. Walking didtance to centre of Rothenburg O.D.Tbr

We were there during summer, we could have done with a fan or cooling in the room. No restaurant for evening meal.
