August 2023
We stayed at the hotel from late July to early August 2023. Our booking was for a Classic Room with a River View, which was situated on the 7th floor directly facing the Buda Castle. The view offered an unobstructed panorama of the whole Castle Hill, the Danube River and the Chain Bridge. Beyond the stunning room views, the hotel's location was exceptional. In my opinion, there's no better place to stay in Budapest. The hotel is in the center of the city, right on the Danube's promenade, surrounded by numerous restaurants, including floating ones, and next to the Chain Bridge leading to Buda's side. Many attractions are easily accessible, such as the Parliament. The lively atmosphere of colorful crowds strolling along the Danube or enjoying meals at nearby restaurants was truly captivating. Even reaching City Park was hassle-free, thanks to electric scooters. The hotel's spaces are well-maintained and appealing, although the rooms themselves could benefit from some renovation. Despite being of satisfactory size, the bathrooms were rather small. Breakfast was good, featuring a typical European spread. If I were to revisit Budapest, I wouldn't hesitate to choose this hotel again, especially the same room. Even after a day of sightseeing, we could sit on the benches in front of the hotel, taking in the view and ambiance, while savoring the last cigarette of the day.

The location amazing - consistence of InterContinental Hotels - brekky great, staff great, Room Service was good food, hot and well presented, Housekeeping staff exceptional - Bell men always available and friendly - Concierge very helpful with bus services, attractions and location restaurant information - we love the lobby services and lounges for drinks in afternoon as specially as a cold destination with amazing views.
The only thing that let the hotel down was it is dated - the current rooms etc are very 1980s (I remember the Sydney InterContinental decor from the 1980s) - although I would say that the furniture and carpets were in good condition.

I chose a Premium Room, which had an exceptional view of the Chain Bridge and the Royal Palace. The room was a brilliant size, and I loved how the lounge area had the complete vista of the river. The room was very clean, with a well-stocked minibar and a large complimentary bottle of water. The gym had great equipment, and the swimming pool and sauna were well maintained and enjoyable to use. There was an excellent selection at breakfast with options from around the world. From the moment I arrived, all of the staff were very friendly and welcoming and spoke excellent English. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel and would choose it again should I ever revisit the city.
The hotel, like many other locations around the city, no longer accepts cash. Although the Euro is accepted throughout Hungary, their preferred currency is the Hungarian Forint. Exchange rates will range hugely if you use Euros, costing you far more than the local currency.

The location of the hotel was exceptional and the overall ambience was superb . Although the hotel was very busy as it was over the New Year celebrations our room was very quiet
The television in our room switched off every 5 mins or so - very infuriating! As the hotel was busy the dining room was very hectic at breakfast and any overspill was encouraged to eat in the bar area . However some of the staff in that area were ill prepared, rude and surly . The whole hotel looked in need of rejuvenation . These areas for improvement didn’t spoil the overall experience , we very much enjoyed our break .

The outstanding view from the window, the softness of the pillow, nice coffe machine in the room, the soundproofing walls, the breakfast (the bread, the cappuccino - delicious!!!!), the overwelming kindness and care of the stuff (nobody opened the door for me until now), the parking lot in the garage....and many other pros!!
The bathroom is small. The furniture isn't at the same level of 5 stars! Maybe when it was built - they used top materials - but that was about 20 years ago - now it's oldish in fact - and for this the price it's a little bit high. The pool it's extremely small for such a big hotel, the water was cold for me, I stood about 3 minutes in it - I would rate it for a 4 star hotel overall - I've seen 4 star hotel looking much more modern than this one !

We loved everything about our three nights stay at the Budapest Intercontinental Hotel. Our family of three booked two rooms, a single and a double, for three nights before boarding an AMAWaterways River Cruise. We stayed here at the recommendation of the cruise line and were not sure what to expect but we could not have been more pleased. The staff are extremely accommodating and will help you with anything you need from restaurant recommendations to sightseeing maps to booking taxis and currency exchange. They have a great bar and on-site restaurant, and while the breakfast was VERY busy every day we were there , we never had to wait longer than a few minutes for a table and there was always plenty of food available on the buffet. They really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and accommodate your needs. The rooms were quite large for European standards, and very comfortable and clean. We especially loved the views of the Danube river. We also loved that there is a Hop On/Hop Off bus stop literally across the street and it's a short walk to the Parliament building, Shoes on the Danube memorial and St Stephen's Basilica. We hope to stay here again on a future visit.

From the natural warm greeting on arriving at recepton, to the time we left, we had an experience over and beyond our expectations. As far as locations go, the hotel was the perfect location from which to explore the city. We've travelled the world over many years and stayed in some stunning locations and this was up there with the best. We can honestly say it was perfect. As for the view from our room, it was jaw-droppingly incredible. So much so, we left our curtains open all during our stay. That's because we looked out across The Danube to Buda Castle, which was simply breathtaking! The room was super comfortable, clean, and an ideal temperature to come back to after a day exploring the city where the heat was 32 degrees........In addition. there was a great breakfast selection to suit all tastes. And we loved the hotel's Lebanese restaurant. We ate there twice as it was fantastic for its menu choice and particularly the view across to the Buda Castle and the 'Chain Bridge'. We really got to feel the vibe of a beautiful and unique city as people walked 'The Corso' as old trams trundled out front taking you back to a different time in history. A very special experience. And finally, for a little self-indulgence to celebrate our wedding anniversary, my wife and I treated ourselves to a wonderful massage in the hotel's spa with two excellent, expert masseurs. After all the walking and exploration of Budapest and beyond, it was exactly what our bodies needed to refresh tired and aching muscles before discovering even more of the city for the following days of our stay.
Absolutely nothing not to like!... Can't add anything negative to say....It was pretty perfect on every level..............Moving on!

Generally a great room and location. Everything was pretty good with the location being great. Wonderful view from our room which had plenty of space. Restaurant was great with a good menu selection.
Sadly, we only found out that I could not use my IHG membership (to claim the nights stayed) because we booked indirectly. (in this case, through booking.com). Apparently there is a global policy that dis-allows using membership if you don't book directly. Seemed very funny to me since we are spending the same amount of money on the rooms. This was my only "gripe" on what would have otherwise been a great stay. I have made a note however and will remember this in the future when looking for hotel accommodation. If I'm going to spend the money, I'd like to at least ensure we can use memberships if we have them.

The location was perfect for walking the Danube and Vaci area. We had a ninth floor view which was perfect for the complete european experience we wanted. The breakfast and the staff working the breakfast was a lovely and very relaxing start to the day. The room was more spacious than the other hotels we stayed at but above all the pillows and the mattress were comfortable. We began our adventure here on the Danube so it was a dream vacation right from the beginning all thanks to this hotel.
I do not have one complaint----it was perfect.
