Hotel was a very nice hotel, next to the lake and had a great view. Our view from our room was kinda obstructed by a tree tho, but that’s ok, the location still fave some serenity. Room was nice size, bathroom was clean, main lobby was cozy and staff were welcoming. We enjoyed the free breakfast for sure! Hotel is located within a small town so getting by to grab other food besides than the hotel restaurant was easily accessible. The lake next to it was peaceful and was a nice touch to wake up to. Would definitely recommend!

I recently stayed at Gistihúsið - Lake Hotel Egilsstadir during a trip to Iceland and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is located in a stunning location overlooking Lake Lagarfljót, and we were lucky enough to spot the Northern Lights during our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful, providing us with tips on the best spots to view the Northern Lights and ensuring that we were comfortable throughout our stay. The room was clean and spacious, with a comfortable bed and all the necessary amenities. The breakfast buffet was also delicious, with a great variety of options to choose from. One of the highlights of our stay was the hot tub facility, which was situated outside with stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains. It was the perfect way to relax after a day of exploring the area. Overall, I would highly recommend Gistihúsið - Lake Hotel Egilsstadir to anyone visiting the area. The location, staff, amenities, and Northern Lights spotting opportunities are all excellent, and the hot tub is a fantastic added bonus. I would definitely stay here again.

Everything was perfect

The staff on the front desk and in the restaurant were friendly and proffessional, our room was a good size with a comfortable bed. The public spaces were all clean and well kept, including the lounge and spa. The location is great for exploring the lakes area and visiting Stodhvarfjordurhe the local port. The restaurant served some good well cooked food with attentive service in a pleasant dinning room that also doubles up as a breakfast room. This hotel offered excellent value for money and I would highly recommend a stay here.

The Spa is only available at an extra charge, it would be nice to include this in the room rate. There was no mini bar. The portion size of the starters was completely out of proportion. A smoked beetroot starter was just a few teaspoons (more like a pre starter) where as beef carpaccio was a full plate of food (like a main course) . My lamb main had a nice flavour but was unfortunatly not cooked fresh (reheated). This did not distract from the fact the meal was still good, but its the little things that make it great!

The only hotel on our trip which strictly follow COVID-19 preventing rules. Staff on the reception are a bit lazy, staff in restaurant welcoming, friendly and polite. Food in restaurant was just WOW(we tried fish of the day and ice cream), cheers to the chef. Rooms was averagely spacious, clean, offer all the basic stuff, great view from window. There is decent Spa. They offer wake up service if there is Northern lights! A friendly and welcoming black cat by the entrance of hotel which lives in the area. While planning my trip i book two times separately same hotel but staff just combined it so we would not have to change rooms.

By the entrance of hotel there is bad smell of poop and hay, because there is a farm next to it, but for me its nothing bad as long as smell is not in hotel rooms (which is not).

We had a room on the second floor looking out over the lake, which I highly recommend. It was peaceful and lovely. The breakfast buffet was varied and substantial. We ate dinner at the restaurant as well and chose the tasting menu, which was fantastic. We also took advantage of the spa and hot tub they have, although it does cost extra, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We ordered a lunch to take with us the day we left. For the money they charged, the quality of the sandwich should have been higher.

I liked the location is right next to the lake you can take a walk near it and close to the downtown The room and bathroom is nice with modern furniture and touches They have their own restaurant and their own farm ingredients

We reached this hotel in the evening, after hours on road it was our safe and comfortable place. Thanks a lot to reception guy (we forgot to ask the name), he was really nice and gave us some advises about visiting places around, also shout out to Austėja, thanks for recomendations, we saved a lot of time during next day trip to Reykavik. One more thing to mention, this hotel will stay in my memory for the all life, as the first Nothern light was captured here! Breakfast was perfect! Best regards from griup of lithuanians! 💚

We were only in town for one night but the check in process was easy and the room comfortable if a bit odd. One bed was under an eave so that the foot of the bed did not have much clearance. Not an issue for the shorter of the two of us but just a bit odd. Breakfast was included and was very good.

We were unable to get dinner reservations at the hotel's restaurant on arrival - first opening was 9pm and we were tired and hungry after the long drive. The restaurant has great reviews and a good looking menu so plan ahead. One item that was off putting is the the dumpster for the restaurant is in the front of the building just 50m from the check in entrance and the odor is off putting. I always dislike having my first impression of a place sullied by smelling their trash.

Location (next to a lake), breakfast, and the facility is great. The building has some character - not modern but has its own comfortable character. More like a spa comfy suite hotel next to a lake type of feel; not of a modern design and vibe. Furthermore, the hotel offers laundry service - though it's first come first served, it is a great differentiator for those traveling around the ring road and can use it in the middle of the trip to refresh up a bit.

Wish breakfast hours could be extended a bit while guests are still finishing eating - for at least 10 more minutes of margin instead of closing promptly at 10am, so that we feel more welcomed to finish our last serving.

Great hotel, clean with nice staff. The restaurant really knows how to prepare food. Amazing breakfast! Big room size. Great bathroom. Would definitely recommend and visit again. Thanks for making our trip that much more enjoyable.

The smell of manure comming from the dairy farm attached to the property. Could not smell it from inside the hotel though. Minor detail!
