JW Marriott Hotel Medan

First, the staff is friendly and helpful, meeting the expectations of a 5-star hotel. Special shout-out to Debang, Nurul and Johannes. The breakfast buffet was really good. And the food at Jade (Chinese restaurant) was within expectation. As for the room, the amenities are great.

The furniture in the room looks tired. Maybe Marriot could consider upgrading items like the work chair, the standing light, and the armchair. Also, compared with the breakfast buffet, the dinner spread was a bit disappointing.

The beds are quite big and comfy.

The closet in my room was not working well but it was fixed asap when we complained. The unpleasant experience is one of the housekeeping staff’s reaction when I asked for additional towels and bath gel. The staff insisted to have the wet towels to be returned in exchange of new towels. Since the hotel supports green campaign, the bath gel is refilled in a bottle and we needed to hand over the bottle to be filled instead of providing us another bottle while my husband was still bathing. When the bottle was refilled, it was filled only 1/4 of the bottle.

The hotel is nice but some facilities need to be upgraded. Hot water in tropical countries means luke warm which is probably appropriate but having a hot shower after long hikes around the city would be good. No signal crosswalks to get to the mall so you're going to have to play chicken against a million scooters but it can be done once you get the hang of it I had a pleasant stay and the people are so kind which more than made up for anything. Medan is a hidden gem of a city to visit!

It has almost everything you can wish for. The breakfast is the best hotel breakfast I have ever experienced. A lot of choice, delicious coffee but best of all outstanding service. Props to all the hotel staff delivering the best and personal service one could possibly ask for. I can’t remember all the names I had good conversations with, but one I do remember is Hambali. His service is more than outstanding.

The size of the gym is amazing. It has many nice machines, but I missed an absolute must: One machine to train your abs with! Also, you have a nice cocktail bar but it closes extremely early. One night it was even closed at 10 pm already. Please do something about it. As a hotel like Marriott the bar should at least be open until 12.

Room was good and spacious. Bed was good and tables were ample. The bathroom is big and spacious. The spa and jacuzzi facilities are good as well. Reception is big and presentable. Breakfast spread is really good.

There was a small puddle between the toilet bowl and the shower area that appeared especially after showers. Would be great if there were more hooks in the shower cubicle in Mens room next to the jacuzzi.

The staff especially at front desks at executive lounge there is Niko and Yuni. And the front desk at breakfast, always call my name. Thanks you guys.

The jacuzzi for woman are on renovation, so sad. The air conditioner during afternoon it was not cold even though we use 16 Celsius it was not cold as usually. And the water at sink at toilet woman beside breakfast area the water are brown color on Sunday morning. And the lift didn’t have aircond it’s worse.

beyond expectation for the room. Breakfast has so many varieties, but if possible could provide traditional drinks like jamu. For bed so comfort.

First, traditional drinks like jamu are not provided. Secondly, for the room sometimes 2 and sometimes 3 or 4 bottles of mineral water were provided in the room, why not steady?...fruits if free on the table every day would be great.

The trip was intended to be a staycation for my elderlies grandma and her kids (being my mom and auntie) who went to see her from Australia, after being locked down by COVID for such a long time. I really appreciate the fact that JW Medan upgraded them to a bigger room (junior suite), which made my grandma felt even happier (she loves staying in a hotel! And that hotel experience) and too be honest, the suite provides everyone with more space to move around instead of being cooped up in a small room. Based from what I read online, I knew JW Medan was always excellent with their staff and service, but the upgrade was something above and beyond. Given to its location, staying there means my mom and auntie could organise for their friends and relatives to come and visit them. Very handy! So from the bottom of my heart, thank you and I will always be very grateful for you to give my grandma such a wonderful staycation experience.

Based on what my mom said, the decor is out dated and maybe need a bit of touch up. We also tried to shout a nice buffet to our relatives but apparently this couldn’t happen given the lack of diners on the night of their preference (which in return, didn’t give them a lot of food options particularly for my mom who is a vegetarian).

The breakfast spread was marvellous especially the variety of Indonesian dishes. We love the jamu drinks served during breakfast. Staff were friendly and polite. There were many closet hangers provided which was convenient.

Water did nit drain out well in the shower area due to the floor tiling causing water ponding.
