The Villa Durante is located very near the Herculaneum excavations. It is an easy walk from the B&B and you can leave your car there while you visit the scavi. The B&B is an apartment which is part of the piano nobile of an 18th century villa. The common rooms are very large and beautifully decorated with frescoes and paintings. The tiled floors are magnificent and worth the trip by themselves. We did not see any of the other rooms but our room, the Sanfelice, was ample and the bed was comfortable. Unusually for a B&B there was a fridge with a bar selection in the room from which you could choose drinks at reasonable prices. The shower was large and the water hot and there were bathrobes provided. The breakfast was good if not exciting, and served on a magnificent table which would have been suitable for a dinner party for 20. The owner and the staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much. We were sorry the restaurant was closed because if the standard matched the B&B it would have been very good indeed.

If you have any problems with knees I would ask for a different room because the Sanfelice has a staircase connecting the bathroom and bedroom levels. In fact the stairs from the courtyard to the apartment are pretty difficult to manage. The only other drawback is the very busy road which is made from a very rough material. The noise dies down to very little at night but could be annoying if you need an afternoon rest like we older folk do. Not a serious problem though.

The villa is a step back in time, an absolutely gorgeous place, perfectly suited to anyone visiting Pompeii or Ercolano. You enter through a courtyard and then up a flight of winding stone stairs, only to find yourself in a high-ceilinged, luxurious yet cozy house, with stunning rooms and the loveliest welcome. Even the bathrooms are photo-worthy! The breakfast was a generous spread of pastries, fruit, excellent coffee and some of the best orange juice I have ever had! Staff members were warm, welcoming and very helpful. You can walk to the Ercolano Ruins (how many times will you be able to do that in life?), and Pompeii is an easy 15 minutes away by car. We found an excellent pizzaria down the street, and the owner also welcomed us for dinner one night at the Michelin-approved restaurant Viva lo Re, right across the street from the villa, where we had one of the best meals of the trip. This was our 25th anniversary celebration and it really could not have been in a more beautiful setting! Grazie mille per tutto!

Strictly nothing. You would have to split hairs four ways to find something to say about the place.

We loved the property's history and charm - magical! The rooms are beautiful and spacious. The staff was super attentive, friendly, informative, and great hosts. Thank you, Valentina, Maria (?), and Theresa for taking such good care of us. There is a fantastic Michelin Guide restaurant almost across the street under the same ownership - a MUST try - we loved it! The Herculaneum ruins are a short walk from the hotel (as was a pretty good pizzeria - great location.

There was a bit of noise - sounded like a subway (or volcano grumbling - JK) but not that bad. The breakfast was good - would have been nice if it wasn't an exact repeat but still nothing to complain about. Oddly - the only waste bin was in the bathroom....maybe an oversight!

What a lovely last stop after our trip to the Amalfi Coast. We had arguably the most bright and modern room in the property, with a huge round bath tub in the room which was wonderful to enjoy with some champagne, watching crime shows on YouTube on a huge TV! We slept so well & loved the feeling of how private and spacious our suite was. The restaurant across the road was wonderful, where my husband had a perfectly prepared steak and myself some pasta. We went to see the ruins, which were close by in walking distance, and otherwise, we just soaked up the unique atmosphere of this truly stunning property. The staff Mariana and Theresa were super helpful and brought us the most beautiful breakfast to our room in the morning. We absolutely loved it and will recommend it to our friends!!!

The local area is very quiet and not much to do, so we were glad we didn't spend too long here as we would have got very bored. Perfect stop for a night or two, or to use as a base if you hired a car perhaps.

This villa was super cool! It was like you were stepping back in time but with all the comfy additions for today! The room was very spacious and we were able to utilize all the extra special rooms/ spaces throughout the floor we were on, too. The artwork and tile floors and view from the main space were nice extras. We were served breakfast in our room and it was a highlight for sure! The staff was so sweet and our room was very clean. We were also just a 15 minute walk form the Herculaneum ruins. If you have a car there's a cool little interior parking area and some shops on the square. We didn't realize until late that there was a nice and affordable wine store right out our front door, etc. We also used the very nice big in-room tub while watching a big tv!

I'm sure all the 'downtown' locations are a bit loud from vehicle noise at night and early morning and this was the case but I don't think this beautiful place's 400 year old windows are probably very sound proof. haha. They could probably use some better signage once guests enter the 'square'. Overall this beautiful stay is a 'must stay'!

Rooms were spacious and unique with their styling. Staff were very attentive and did all they could to help with any questions or and requests. Great breakfast. Close to Herculaneum.

The only reason we stayed at this property was because we were there to see the Herculaneum Ruins. The hotel itself was nice however the town where it is located is filthy. All the footpaths were littered with rubbish and dog poo, some areas seemed very derelict and there were multiple buildings that had been abandoned and boarded up.

If you want to know what it is like to be a king and queen, then rent the King suite. It is amazing. Just like royalty, with massive bathtub, incredible high ceilings, murals, antique furniture and huge doors. The massive bed is super comfy with quality linens and the aircon works great.Breakfast is wheeled in on a rolling table with a lovely selection of breakfast goodies and fresh fruit. The bathroom has beautiful robes for you to wear. Big screen TV with movies and good selection of channels. The place is non descriptive from in front, but the apartment is within a converted historical complex. Let the hotel know when you are going to arrive and have a cell phone to call to let them know you are there so they can escort you up. A ten minute or less walk to Herculaneum and maybe 15-20 minutes to the rail station at Ercolano Scavi. Two upstairs bedrooms plus a second bathroom, makes this space big enough for a family.

A bit of through traffic noise from the local street but no bars or noisy restaurants. Windows have heavy shutters which help. Quietens down after about 10pm so doesn't affect sleeping, No area to sit out at all, but the space inside the suite is huge. Not many restaurants close by except the one affiliated to the hotel. Ten to fifteen minute walk to other good choices if you want more variety.

My wife and I spent a night here during our honeymoon and it was not nearly enough. I cannot overstate the spectacular nature of the the villa itself. Our room had 9m ceilings (yes, you read that right - 9m/27ft), REAL frescos on the walls, a green marble soaking tub… to say nothing of the incredible hospitality of the staff! Claudia and Teresa went above and beyond. We were able to check-in early, an expansive breakfast was brought directly to our room; the pair were so sweet and accommodating, I couldn’t believe it was real. That it was so affordable was simply icing on the cake. And it bears stating - this gorgeous place with these beautiful people is literally an 8 minute walk from the Herculaneum Archeological Park. If you’re visiting Ercolano, this the Villa to be at!

The apartment is beautiful and worth seeing. Our room had a floor to ceiling window with a view over an attractive old courtyard. The (mezzanine) bedroom had lovely antique furniture. The bathroom was small but pretty and had very nice toiletries. Breakfast was excellent. Everyone was helpful and friendly. It was all very romantic and we would love to go back. It's a short walk from the archaeological site.

We had a mezzanine bedroom and the private bathroom was downstairs which was a little bit difficult for someone with less mobility and meant having a light on all night so as to see the stairs. I think ours was probably the only room like this and in any case it would still be worth staying here as it's So lovely.
