The Villa Durante is located very near the Herculaneum excavations. It is an easy walk from the B&B and you can leave your car there while you visit the scavi. The B&B is an apartment which is part of the piano nobile of an 18th century villa. The common rooms are very large and beautifully decorated with frescoes and paintings. The tiled floors are magnificent and worth the trip by themselves. We did not see any of the other rooms but our room, the Sanfelice, was ample and the bed was comfortable. Unusually for a B&B there was a fridge with a bar selection in the room from which you could choose drinks at reasonable prices. The shower was large and the water hot and there were bathrobes provided. The breakfast was good if not exciting, and served on a magnificent table which would have been suitable for a dinner party for 20. The owner and the staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much. We were sorry the restaurant was closed because if the standard matched the B&B it would have been very good indeed.
If you have any problems with knees I would ask for a different room because the Sanfelice has a staircase connecting the bathroom and bedroom levels. In fact the stairs from the courtyard to the apartment are pretty difficult to manage. The only other drawback is the very busy road which is made from a very rough material. The noise dies down to very little at night but could be annoying if you need an afternoon rest like we older folk do. Not a serious problem though.

The outside seems a little battered but it's an genuine historic building - the interior is a lovely restored space with antiques, amazing paintings, furnishing and floors. The room was quirky (split level with spiral staircase) and lovely and bed was comfy. The air-conditioning kept the temperature well regulated. The breakfast was a fun continental assortment of buns, pastries, fruit, juice, coffee, all served by the very friendly and gracious host. This is not just another room in just another hotel - it's a must-be-experienced adventure. Hotel is only a few minutes walk from many good restaurants (try Pizzeria Ro.Vi and Pappamonte for sure) and equally walkable to the entrance to the Herculaneum archeological site. Great location for tours etc. - we used this as a base to visit Herculaneum, Pompeii and Vesuvius.
Was a little hard to find - might be a good idea to add some signage? Minor quibble - once we were met on the street by the host, after wandering about a bit, everything went well.

The decor and aesthetic was amazing. It is a stunning layout and exceptionally well situated close to Herculaneum. The breakfast was wonderful! The host met us on a Sunday promptly even though we were later than anticipated. The vibe of the building was historic and very attractive. Having a car park there was wonderful and so convenient. They were very accommodating with the car staying there while we toured so we didn’t have to move it out. The bathrooms were well appointed.
The upstairs bed was very hard/firm. The steps are steep and slippery with no lighting for the nighttime. There was a cockroach in the back bathroom that was a bit surprising, but maybe typical for this kind of city scape. There was no soap in the bathrooms which seemed odd given what they did offer.

The architecture of the building was incredible. Absolutely stunning inside. Loved the drapes, furnishings and decor. It was great that we were so well placed to visit the archaeological site of Erculano. We spent many hours wandering around this beautiful historical site, which is so well preserved and gives visitors an opportunity to observe what life would have been for the people of Erculano before Mount Vesuvias erupted. Francesca and Theresa looked after us so well. Thank you, Francesca, for your expert knowledge and the advice you gave us over the best way to get to Maiori. It was just so easy, train to Salerno, Ferry from Salerno to Maiori. Thank you, Theresa, for your hospitality, you made us so welcome. The breakfasts every morning we're so tasty and inviting. Thank you for recommending the restaurant. We had a lovely evening. It was great being able to have a conversation with you via the app on your phone. You just went out of the way to make our stay very special. We felt sad leaving. A great start to our Amalfi holiday. ♥️
There was nothing not to like about the apartment. It was beautiful. đź‘Ť

We were visiting Herculaneum, and this place is a six minute walk from there, that's why I chose it. When we arrived, I was absolutely blown away!!! The history and beauty of this place was breathtaking and I was not expecting my room to be that luxurious. My friends and I felt like queens. Breakfast the next morning was divine. So many options. Fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, cereal, fresh squeezed orange juice, milk, cappuccino croissants, toast and pastries, butter, fig jam, and warm, hard boiled eggs. I will be recommending this place to everyone.

The b&b looks exactly as pictured- it’s an authentic Villa! The staff was lovely as well. Theresa made us a delicious breakfast spread each morning with freshly squeezed orange juice, yogurt and cereal/granola, fruit, pastries and coffee/tea. She even added special local pastries. She was wonderful. The location in relation to Herculaneum was excellent, and easy to get to Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii as well. The owners also own a restaurant across the street - Vive lo re. It was absolutely fantastic- the best meal we had on our entire 10 day trip across the region. We went back for a second night and loved it. It’s good to know that the building is large and you need to come into the courtyard, turn left and go up to the second floor to find reception.
The b&b was great, but Ercolano is not the greatest spot, and we were warned about our safety by a guide at Pompeii. We didn’t have any trouble but we did feel a bit out of place walking around at night. That being said, it still worked for our plans to visit Vesuvius, Herculaneum and Pompeii easily, so I can still recommend Villa Durante.

Villa Durante is even better than it appears in the photos. We stayed only one night in early March, and were the only guests, so we basically had an entire floor of a c.1750 palazzo to ourselves. There was a brief delay in getting in, as we'd arrived before the owner unlocked the place, but after that all the staff were very friendly and helpful - the owner also runs the excellent Vivo Lo Re restaurant over the street to the left. Our room was enormous, with frescoes in the style of the nearby Reggia di Portici. We had two bathrooms (one with a tiled bathtub fully 6 ft x 3ft!), a lobby lined with wardrobes and an extra room upstairs with two more beds. The main bed was amazingly comfortable, all the rooms spotless (not even a speck of dust on the highest shelves), and the french window opened onto a balcony over the street with a view of the Bay of Naples. In the morning the staff brought in a breakfast trolley with table and chairs and set out a breakfast of bread, cheese, ham, pastries, eggs and fresh fruit. All in all an exceptional experience. The Villa is only a 5 minute walk from the Herculaneum excavations, and 20 minutes from either the station or the Reggia di Portici.

Villa Durante doesn't disappoint. The rooms are beautiful, oppulent but still functional. We stayed in the Queen Suite and loved our stay. We had plenty of room and the bath next to the bed was great for relaxing in after a long day sightseeing. The owner was happy to accomodate our early arrival and happily showed us around, talking about his restoration work and making us feel really welcome. The staff were just brilliant and couldn't do enough to help - they really made us feel welcome. The continental breakfast was just right for me and always served with a smile. It always felt special whether served in our room, wheeled in on a pre-laid table, or sitting in the dining area with at the impressive dining table. The ladies looking after the Villa couldn't do enough to help. If you are visiting Herculaneum you really couldn't choose a better place to stay as its only a ten minute leisurely walk away.
There is very little not to like. It can get a little noisy at night but the windows are originals and you're in a city - for me that was all just part of the experience but, if you're a light sleeper, you might want to take some earplugs.

The villa is a step back in time, an absolutely gorgeous place, perfectly suited to anyone visiting Pompeii or Ercolano. You enter through a courtyard and then up a flight of winding stone stairs, only to find yourself in a high-ceilinged, luxurious yet cozy house, with stunning rooms and the loveliest welcome. Even the bathrooms are photo-worthy! The breakfast was a generous spread of pastries, fruit, excellent coffee and some of the best orange juice I have ever had! Staff members were warm, welcoming and very helpful. You can walk to the Ercolano Ruins (how many times will you be able to do that in life?), and Pompeii is an easy 15 minutes away by car. We found an excellent pizzaria down the street, and the owner also welcomed us for dinner one night at the Michelin-approved restaurant Viva lo Re, right across the street from the villa, where we had one of the best meals of the trip. This was our 25th anniversary celebration and it really could not have been in a more beautiful setting! Grazie mille per tutto!
Strictly nothing. You would have to split hairs four ways to find something to say about the place.

We loved the property's history and charm - magical! The rooms are beautiful and spacious. The staff was super attentive, friendly, informative, and great hosts. Thank you, Valentina, Maria (?), and Theresa for taking such good care of us. There is a fantastic Michelin Guide restaurant almost across the street under the same ownership - a MUST try - we loved it! The Herculaneum ruins are a short walk from the hotel (as was a pretty good pizzeria - great location.
There was a bit of noise - sounded like a subway (or volcano grumbling - JK) but not that bad. The breakfast was good - would have been nice if it wasn't an exact repeat but still nothing to complain about. Oddly - the only waste bin was in the bathroom....maybe an oversight!
