A perfect base for exploring Matera and the surrounding towns! Staying inside a cave was such a unique and unforgettable experience. The room was beautifully designed, blending modern comforts with the incredible historic setting. The decor really added to the charm, making the stay feel special and authentic. The location was ideal, right in the heart of Matera’s stunning old town. Wandering through the ancient streets was an experience in itself, and the atmosphere was something you can’t find anywhere else.

This is a wonderful family run hotel and restaurant in the magical caves of the ancient city of Matera. Lovely garden terrace as u enter this small family stay with updated individual rooms. It is a location that you must walk to within the many warrens of Matera but it’s off a Main Street and accessible by the local shuttle from parking lot. Best of all is the extraordinary delicious breakfast with multiple offerings and home baked goods.

Everything in this ancient city is in caves that were dug out of the hillsides. Caves can be cooler than outside which is good in summers but demand an extra sweater in spring and late fall.

Best location in Matera, excellent view on the city when you get out of your room. Very nice to stay in a cave like the old cavemen... The closet is an extra excavation of the cave :-) Nice breakfast, quite some home made cake.

CAREFUL : depending on the time, hotel is in a car free zone; Difficult to get to the hotel with a lot of luggage, quite some slippery stairs; The resto of the hotel was closed the evening we arrived, but no idea why (found excellent resto in the old town though)

Location was amazing. Matera is the most amazing city in Puglia and this place is right in the heart of it. Matera is unique, unlike anywhere else we'd ever been and exceeded our expectations. Despite language barriers, staff were very friendly. Sleeping in a cave was also a unique experience.

I probably didn't read the detail in the correspondence re parking, but trying to find the accommodation and the park and ride shuttle in 40 degrees of heat was a stressful experience.

Matera is magical and sleeping in this cave was truly a unique experience. The view from the front terrace is amazing and all the attractions are within walking distance. Their suggestion to park and ride the bus was very comfortable as we were stopped just a few meters away from the property. Thank you so much!!

Very unique rooms dug into a tufa cave. Very large and clean, nicely appointed w good bed. Quiet, cool, a slight aroma (not unpleasant) of tufa-earth.

The cook/ chef was out due to injury so breakfast was pretty bleak, but sufficient. A beautiful dining area, but the big commercial kitchen sat unused.

Beautiful cave room complete with full kitchen and bathroom. A real experience staying in the Sassi! Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast included a range of local cakes, antipasti, fruit, bread and yoghurt.

Some hot breakfast items would be a plus.

Amazing location and spectacular view. Staff was very nice and helpful both with a late check-in and parking. Breakfast was varied and abundant. The room was very big and typical of the location's cave homes. Really enjoyed the warm towels in the bathroom and the shower pressure 😊.

The heater and the dehumidifier in the room were too loud and too hot. We didn't know how to turn down the heater and considering it was late, didn't want to disturb the staff. So we had trouble sleeping. Since we were up, we wanted to prepare some coffee in the fully furnished kitchen, but the igniter on the stove top didn't work. So we waited for the restaurant to open to have some coffee. .

Location close to upper edge of Sassi and there was a nice view part of the Sasso Briseno, including the Duomo. Unusual room configurations within caves may be attractive for some. Befs wete comfortable and rooms have small kitchens. The owner Vicenzo was very helpful, although he does not speak English. He picked us up frim the bus stop and brought us closer to the property than a taxi would, he arranged for a van to drive 4 of us and luggage to Bari Airport, and he printed boarding passes for us.

Even though it is close to the edge of the Sassi, there is walking on steps and eneven surfaces required to get to it. Some may not like the room configurations, definitely not standardized.

Your actually living in a cave but a luxurious one.

There are a quite a few stairs to get there but fortunately they are down and in the end you are part of the old town so if you want to live the experience then this is to be expected.
