Great location, fabulous views from the rooftop, yes, longer walk to the main sights, maybe 20 -30 mins, but we enjoyed that and the sights to see along the walks. There is a good bus service that for €1.50 will bring you back to a location just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Pool was the main draw ravelling with my 4 adult children so the option for 2 room with 5 single beds was the main reason for picking this hotel. Close second was having a pool, well with it for rest days and sitting beside for a quiet last drink.

Suggestions rather than major issues, we had a triple room, but only two cups for drinkies on the room, also, no milk left for tea. Equally, at breakfast, small jugs to take milk to your table for tea would be nice.

The beautiful pool was a welcome relief from the heat of Rome. Breakfast at the pool terrace was a great start to the day. Good range of food on offer. Reception staff were incredibly helpful. Lots of great eating choices in nearby Trastevere where the food was so much more reasonable than in the city centre. Hotel room fairly basic but very clean and had everything we needed.

Hotel location wouldn't suit everyone as up a steep hill and a bit out of the way. However there are regular public transport links into the heart of the city.

Fabulous hotel, fabulous pool always a sunbed. Towels and swim hats provided. Very friendly staff. Comfortable rooms with decent shower temperature and a great array of breakfast food including eggs n bacon. Bus stop right outside to take you into Trastevere (no more than 10 mins by bus) where there are some great restaurants. Anx also across to east walking distance to the Vatican. And 5 mins down the road to catch a bus into the main tourist areas of Rome ( about 20 mins). Bus tickets easily available from tobacconists for various lengths. Walking distance to Gianicolo park where you get great views across the city. Great location.

Nothing not to like

A plus for us, Grand Hotel Gianicolo was a 15 minute walk from where our daughter and her family live in Trestevere. For visitors to Rome, it might seem a bit out of the way, although there are public buses nearby that get you down to the center. The location and views over, essentially, green parks (attached to what is now the American Academy in Rome), the Vatican in the distance, and much of Rome more than compensate for extra travel or walk to the hotel. The staff is professional, courteous, accommodating. This hotel draws a quiet, generally understated clientele. The continental breakfast is excellent and generous, served on a covered, open rooftop with a view. The pool a great plus.

We chose this hotel for the pool with the understanding we could bring guests (three grandchildren) for a fee. All good, but the fee was far more than we had anticipated (35 Euro weekdays, 50 Euro weekends and holidays, per person including children.) We understand. On a hot holiday, guests take up much of the space. Hotel management doesn't want to be a public pool or see its guests crowded out of the lounge chairs by people not staying in the hotel. We should have checked the cost in advance. It is a beautiful pool, appears to be well managed, there is bar service and food is available at hotel rates.

Breakfast was great and slight variation on options each day. Pool was amazing as was the pool boy. Perfect temperature for August and huge. Loved the location but not suitable for those who don’t want to climb up a hill each day unless you rely on taxis that are relatively cheap. Loved being away from the crowds on the other side of the river. Bed was awesome with choice of soft or firm pillow. Air con was quiet and worked well.

Nothing. Staff were helpful and friendly

The breakfast was AMAZING! One of the best I've ever had. The location was also perfect, in a quiet location but just a few minutes' walk to all the bars and restaurants in Trastevere. The pool was also beautiful, a great place to relax after walking around the city sightseeing. Dinner in the restaurant is also highly recommended, and the staff were as helpful as could be.

The only issue we had was the rooms weren't very soundproof. We could hear chairs squeaking on the floor, our neighbours singing happy birthday etc. However, it wasn't much of an issue after 10 or 11pm and we were able to sleep without issue.

Rome was sweltering, but we were cooling off in the beautiful pool, enjoying delightful meals on the terrace, and retreating to the air-conditioned comfort of our rooms. The staff were particularly friendly and accommodating -- and were helpful with requests for our toddler. We all enjoyed morning breakfast on the roof terrace with a view over the park. This is a very family-friendly hotel, and I highly recommend.

The hotel is on a hill and quite a distance from the major attractions, but taxi/Ubers are plentiful and relatively cheap.

Pool…amazing and a rarity in Rome. The location was perfect…quiet area, but within a short walking distance of some great restaurants and bars and only a short taxi or bus or a moderate walk from major attractions. Staff were friendly, and the bed was very comfortable…VERY comfortable. Food was nice from the restaurant also. The pool was the real bonus though…great way to start the day.

Very little to complain about…but the breakfast was very disorganised. The worst we have experienced. I assume that is is due to moving to a l carte from self service buffet maybe because of Covid….We had to wait 30-40 minutes the first morning to get any food…coffee and juice always came after the food. Items missing from order every morning. But the food was nice, and included in the price, and the service staff were friendly. Disappointing, but will look back on our stay here fondly…and will definitely stay again.

traditional, beautiful Italian hotel. location was great, very short walk to Trastevere area, with a beautiful hilltop view from giancolo hill. beautiful garden surroundings. superb free breakfast. outstanding staff, sorry I forgot to take names but so accommodating and allowed us to leave bags within hotel for our last morning in Rome before heading to airport, so a big 10/10 for them!!! would definitely recommend as Trastevere is where all the best bars and food places are.

hotel is a little bit dated with decor, however definitely didn’t affect our stay and still very very beautiful. location is fantastic, however not the easiest for someone with poor mobility as situated on hilltop so a lot of uphill walking.

This hotel is in a lovely historic building in beautiful resort style grounds- a rarity in Rome. It is located on the hill above Trastevere which is in walking distance if you are fit and able. It also has several great local restaurants and a bar very nearby. The huge pool is incredible and wonderful when Rome is hot. The rooms are spotless , the breakfast, which is served on a stunning roof top terrace , has a very good selection and the staff are fantastic. This is a great hotel for families and for those wishing to have a bit of space around them.
