The location was a bit far from the main area of town so it has the feel of being tucked away in the forest and that made it extremely private, which was really nice. The staff was extremely friendly and we had no issue communicating in English. They helped us with luggage forwarding to Osaka with no issues which allowed us to explore the city instead of filling out paperwork for it. The hot springs on site were very clean and personal, with the option of a private one if you wanted it.

It’s a bit of a hike (literally, if you decide to walk) from the bus terminal, although there is a shuttle you can request. The shuttle to town is either early morning or doesn’t start till the afternoon which is a bit of a bummer if you wanted to go down mid-day. A food option on site would be really great, even just a vending machine with some snacks.

The stay was fantastic for a couple days. Very peaceful location. The staff was great - they were on top of coordinating a shuttle for my arrival/departure from the bus terminal (despite the snow!), and ready with local recommendations for attractions/food. There are many public baths in Kusatsu, but don't underestimate the one in-house: it was spectacular, and I was almost always there by myself.

The heating options in the room were adequate, but because the building has minimal insulation, be prepared for a cold room (if you come in winter, of course!). Prepare to have multiple heaters running at once! This is not uncommon in Japan, but it may take you by surprise, especially if you come back from a day exploring the area.

The property was traditional, quiet and very clean. Both the public and private onsen were very relaxing and equipped with everything needed, plus their amenities - bath gel, shampoo and conditioner - were the nicest I’ve ever had in a hotel/ryokan, they smelled amazing. Separate praise to the staff - they were extremely friendly and helpful, and volunteered to help me resolve one of my issues with the travel, even though it was not part of their job. I will definitely visit again and recommend to friends. Thank you!

A very quiet and cute place! It really felt like a country side inn, so homey and tranquil. So peaceful and the rooms were quite spacious for the price. I wanted a Japanese style room for the experience and it met my expectations! There is also an onsen to enjoy. Since it runs all night, even if you chose the public bath, you'll find yourself alone at some point! The baths and rooms came with many toiletries as well.

There are no food places nearby so if you check in late be sure to grab food before you go.

Everything! They have a really good pick up service, the rooms have such a nice view and the outdoor and indoor bath are amazing. Besides that, the staff is so friendly and helped me a lot, since I was a little bit sick. They took me to the hospital, translated the conversation for me, gave me some medicine to help and even took me to the market to buy some fruits. In the end, I extended my stay for two more nights and it definitely worthed it! I couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay.

I loved that it’s a distance away from the town but also not too far to make it inaccessible. The onsen in the hotel was lovely as well! I stayed in the second week of December and somehow there just weren’t many people staying in the property, hence it was quiet and empty, and the onsens were empty as well so I enjoyed my experience very much. I appreciated the help from the staff in the hotel as they were willing to pick me up from the town during the stipulated timings. There was a shared microwave available for use as well. The room was very well equipped, with a personal toilet, kettle, hairdryer, yukata, free green tea, heater, mini fridge, slippers. It was such a comfortable and homely stay for me. The futon was so comfortable! The pillow is a bit small and hard, so I recommend travellers to sleep on your winter jackets instead.

The walk up the hill was very steep and it was almost impossible to climb up with my medium sized 20kg luggage on my own. But it is still accessible since guests can just wait for the stipulated timing for pickup 👍🏽. There was also a huge spider in the onsen!

The Staff is pretty helpful, I didn't cath his name but the older gentleman and tried his best to make us feel comfortable. He was welcoming to everyone. The places makes you feel at ease and at home even when youre miles away from it. The staff also picked us up from the bus terminal, drive us to downtown. Plus drop us off at the terminal after whe concluded our stay. With no additional charge. The hotel is not to far away from the main tourist attractions , but is enough farther to the main streets that you can enough quietness.

I think is a family owned hotel, so the place might not hold to high standards as luxury hotels. You might find a few dusty places but not that serious. But your room will be neat and ready for you once you arrive. Please be aware that this place is a traditional ryokan so the facilities might be old, and the wood might have that distinctive scent.

Everything. The inn is lovely , a tad rustic but that's the whole point of booking a Ryokan. The room was spacious and felt homey. We had a lovely view on the surrounding trees. The onsens were great too. We barely ever met anyone in it ! The location is up for debate but we loved it. We felt casted away from the world in an extremely peaceful environment (trees, bird and silence).

Nothing. We got what we signed for. If you want a genuine Ryokan experience without ruining yourselves this inn is a great deal. We believe the rating is driven down by the pretty picky, elderly and a tad posh Japanese clientele of Kusatsu Onsen.

I can not say enough good things about our stay!! Our room was clean and traditional, the staff was very pleasent, the shuttle to and from the downtown area was super convenient and we loved the onsite spa facilities! I would definitely recommend staying here!

Our group loved the location being off the beaten path, but be advised it is a 10-15 minute walk from the downtown area.

Loved this little hotel! A nice affordable option in Kusatsu. It’s a bit of a walk (15 minutes) outside of the town center, so it’s nice and quiet and away from the strong sulphur smell from the Yubatake. There is a shuttle to town if needed, but the walk is nice and safe. Onsen facility in the hotel was clean, with an indoor and outdoor bath. Staff were very friendly and communicated well even though they don’t speak English and my Japanese is not very strong. Thanks for a lovely stay!
