June 2023

We are a family of 4 who stayed 6 nights during June in the family room with 4 beds and a wonderful view over the bay. The guesthouse is run by a very kind and generous young couple who do everything in their power to make the guests' stay as convenient as possible. The place is renovated, well organised and kept very clean. There is a lot of information about Shimoda, and different equipments and facilities are made available for different kinds of activities. The kitchen and the common space for dining, hanging and socializing is furnished tastefully and it also has a nice view over the bay. We met a lot of interesting people with whom we had a wonderful barbecue evening together with the hosts. I would recommend this place 100% to anyone visiting Shimoda. Our whole family is already missing this place.

Nothing.

First off, Yuki and his wife (the owners) are absolutely wonderful and benevolent hosts. Yuki was there to help us with absolutely anything we needed and was very reasonable. What is not pictured is that Yuki has hand drawn maps of the town and area around Shimoda with little markers he has placed for tens of restaurant options, beaches, and landmarks! He is happy to explain how to get anywhere and even provides free bike rental to guests! We liked Yuki so much that we grabbed dinner with him one of the nights and he even was able to drop a large load of the guests off to the train station at the end of our stay, although the walk is very reasonable! I could not have asked for a better host, as he has been more than accommodating. If you want to make a friend and uncover all that this beautiful area has to offer, I recommend booking here with Yuki. The property has an amazing view (as pictured) and is in a wonderful location for access to many beaches, towns, and nature trails. Inside, the common room is wonderful and each of the dorm rooms are great! The beds are extremely comfortable and are a nice size for those in Japan since they're a bit bigger than normal I think.

The view was amazing! There is a convenient parking in front of the hotel. There was free coffee in the morning and the staff gave us tips and lots of recommendations.

It is quite noisy. You can hear conversations, doors closing, etc. It is annoying in the morning. You also have to pay for towels.

The owners are extremely nice and helpful. We stayed for one week and they even did the laundry for us! We loved the common spaces and it was a nice place to hang out and to cook your own food. Free bikes and snorkel gear for your disposal and really "All you need"! The beaches in the area are really great. There are several nice restaurants to choose from and good supermarkets within walking distans.

I would have really loved to give the highest score for this hotel, for these people are really great and would deserve it for all the hard work they do. I have to be honest though and say that the only thing that actually was a bit on the downside since we were staying so long, was that the rooms that we rented were on the smaller side (there may have been bigger ones) and there were nowhere to unpack our bags. There were no space for a closet, but some hangers, hooks or shelves would have made a big difference. The boy's room smelled a bit moldy. Nevertheless, our stay was so nice and pleasant we would love to visit again. A good vibe is more important than the practical issues, so you will not regret choosing this place!

The owners are amazing people. Extremely courteous and kind (good English was a very pleasant surprise). They have great knowledge of the area and are eager to help. They really go above and beyond to make it easier for tourists and provide a listing for: restaurants, coffee shops, bars, onsen, surf spots, bike trails...they even helped us finding a gym for a rainy day. The guesthouse is located just a little bit outside of Shimoda Centre, at a 20 minutes walk from the Station and 2 minutes from the beach. You will be offered free bikes rental, usage of kitchen and common areas (all spotless and kept tidy). The room is small and if you big luggage it may be challenging to fit. The shower is amazing. All in really amazing value for money.

The roll up curtains in the room let quite a bit of light in, so if you are light sleeper (especially in summer when the sun comes up at around 04.30am) this could be somehow annoying.

The guesthouse is located on a beautiful hill next to a bay. The guesthouse is built in such a way that a view over the bay is possible from the room and the very nice and well equipped common area. The bike rental is a very nice add on to explore the surrounding beaches in the area and do some errands in the city. Everything is very clean and well cared for. But the best feature is the host who was going the extra mile for our wellbeing and not just offer loads of tips in the area, but also for other destinations on our trip!

Shimoda in the inbetween season is not the most vibrant destination. But it does suit for some rest.

The view from the common room is amazing, the facilities have everything you need to cook food and hang out. The host family has gone above and beyond to make our stay memorable and they are really committed to make sure that every guest has a great stay! Everything was near and clean and the beds were firm but comfortable. You can rent a bike for free and explore the beautiful beaches around Shimoda within 10-15 minutes. Although the hills are a little steep sometimes.

A beautiful place, right by the sea (you can even see it from the window), quiet, comfortable, and the owner’s wife -sorry I forgot your name - is a genuinely super hospitable person. The facilities were all great and in good Nick - the bike was maybe a bit stiff, but I think it’s a losing battle against these hills either way.

A man checked into the dorm at around 1-2AM and proceeded to have a shower and a very noisy ‘bathroom time’ before passing out and snoring so loud that sleep wasn’t possible for a few hours. Not the guesthouse’s fault necessarily, but I don’t think it’s very considerate to let people check into a shared room so late.

The location is perfect! Just a short walk (less than 5 minutes) takes you to the beautiful Nabetahama Beach and many nearby attractions. The sunrise views from the room are absolutely gorgeous. For those who want to explore the area, the guesthouse offers free bicycles to borrow. There's also a fully-equipped kitchen you can use for free if you'd like to cook, and even a BBQ area for outdoor grilling. The bathroom, while a little dated, is clean and comfortable. The host, Yuki, is incredibly helpful and generous with his time and advice. He even assisted me with a luggage delivery service. His excellent English makes communication a breeze. True to its name, this guesthouse truly offers everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable stay!

Great views, the owners were friendly, the kitchen was well stocked and the free bike rentals were a nice touch. Seemed relatively social compared to other places we've stayed in Japan. This place is very well set up and clearly has a lot of heart!

Although it seems Shimoda is an expensive spot - at least during the hydrangea season - this was the most costly accomodations we've stayed at in 13 months of travel. Also we would have liked towels included in the cost of "all we need" for a stay ;)
