The location is lovely and excellent for exploring Shimoda with a lovely walk down the cliff road and back up again. The room was spacious for two, but lacked air conditioning and a fan in the bathroom. The beds were good and the staff were very welcoming and delightful. The Japanese breakfast buffet was plenty, the “western” breakfast a little short on fresh croissants and fruit, with hot foods being lukewarm. However, the service is impeccable and gracious. The shuttle bus is very regular and efficient to bring travellers to and from the train station. We loved our time in Shimoda and the graciousness of all the many people we met.

I would have liked a better AC in the room, as it is quite humid and warm for sleeping.

Location was wonderful, not far from some historical sites. Nice private area with a garden overlooking the ocean. However, not a lot for kids to offer or do at the facility.

The cleanliness and maintenance of the area are truly commendable. The attention to detail in keeping the space clean and well-kept is evident and greatly appreciated. It reflects a high standard of care and professionalism. The consistent cleanliness and maintenance contribute to a positive environment and experience for all. Overall, the upkeep of the place is exceptional and speaks volumes about the dedication to providing a pleasant and hygienic setting.

The room was comfortable and clean, the location was stunning and the amenities were great. The dinner and breakfast buffet were not huge in terms of choices but the food was all delicious and the view from the restaurant was beautiful. There were activities for children every evening and the onsen was a lovely way to unwind in the evening after a day in the pool, on the beach or exploring the town.

The beach and pool are accessible by a lot of steps so not suitable for people with limited mobility. We also found that no food is available around 4pm-5.30pm (so it’s worth bringing snacks if you have young, hungry children who need something to keep them going until dinner!)

Very nice hotel if a bit outdated. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful and the onsen was great. Everything was very clean and they had a lot of nice amenities like pour over coffee and madeleines and non plastic water bottles in the room.

It was up a very steep hill from town and the shuttle only drops off at the train station so if you want to eat in town (which you do because the hotel only has one mediocre over priced restaurant) you have to hike up and down the hill or cross town from the train station and the shuttle only goes until 17:30. Also they very strangely charge 1,100 yen to play ping which I found a bit petty. Plus they “close” the ping pong at 21:00 even though it’s in a closed off room off the lobby so wouldn’t bother anyone if you were playing.

We loved loved loved our stay here, where do I start? There was a shuttle from and to the station which was very handy. When we arrived, the staff gave us a very warm welcome and they were amazing throughout! We were blown away by the tropical looking setting and the equally incredible view from our fourth floor bedroom and the gardens. Unfortunately, we arrived a bit late in the day but ended up having a night time explore of the gardens and went down to the beach (if you’re feeling fit and adventurous, it’s steep steps!). Sadly we didn’t get to see the beach in the daytime as we only stayed one night but the following day, the colour of the water was like the Caribbean - stunning! We had dinner in the on-site restaurant which was lovely but quite expensive. If you’re a fish lover, I would thoroughly recommend the whole Kinme as a dish - yummy!! Which brings me to the ladies onsen - wow, just wow!! The changing rooms were lovely but where it won was the two baths, one inside which I didn’t use because I made a beeline for the outside bath which was incredibly beautiful. Made of stone, bordered by beautiful flowers with a view over the sea. I just kept finding myself saying ‘wow’ - my favourite onsen of our trip. I wish we had time to stay another night. All this for a room rate of under £96 for the night and it’s only 2.5 hours from Tokyo on the express train. The on-site shop also had lovely little bits and pieces. I would 100% recommend staying here for a few days. I certainly intend to return here if we go back to Japan one day.

Nothing, it was incredible!! In my top two hotels of our trip.

The location has gorgeous views of the bay with a well manicured property. The path to the beach and coastline at the property are also exceptional.

We had to make reservations and then wait 30 minutes each morning for the buffet breakfast that was included in our pricing. The breakfast was very good but the wait was annoying.

it is on top of a hill, an excellent location overlooking the bay, the ocean and the islands. it is close to a natural walk along the coast watching waves hitting the rocks and walking to the aquarium, Shimoda park and all tourist attractions. room was clean and updated with lots of amenities. Breakfast was good quality with lots of choices. Staffs were super friendly and helpful. I’ll be back next time for a longer stay.

not much to complain except it’s on top of a hill which you either need a car or take the shuttle. Walking is good exercise!

The staff at the hotel were all very welcoming and polite. The buffet breakfast had many options, great spread of food! The coffee and juices were also very nice. The views from the restaurants were nice. The room was comfortable with an ensuite. The onsen was relaxing and the outside onsen had lovely views. We booked "a-la-carte" dinner. The waiters were lovely, the food was not as great as the buffet the next morning! But it was ok. The room had free tea, coffee and small snacks. As well as toiletries. But if you didn't use the toiletries you could return a green token to reception for them to donate money to saving the planet!

The room slippers and pajamas were not comfortable! The slippers were very worn and it was hard to walk down to the onsen with them on. The PJ's were made for japanese ladies, so I had trouble putting on the bottoms as they were too tight. In the end I went to then onsen wearing my own clothes. The chicken at dinner was a little dry.. but ok to finish.

Parking, check-in, room view, location... everything was wonderful and better than years ago as the hotel has had a refresh. Highly recommend if you want a great Shimoda hotel but dont require being on a sand beach like Prince Shirahama or Tatado Yakatokan. The bay below the Tokyu bar far the best for swimming with no waves and crystal clear water.

the view the from room is spectacular. we visited during overcast weather and it was still beautiful. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Bufffet breakfast is great- lots of variety. twin room was spacious and beds were so comfortable.

The room got a bit warm, we couldn’t figure out the air conditioning. The hill up to the hotel is steep, not a far walk but gets a bit much if doing multiple times a day.
