If you hang the DO NOT DISTURB sign outside your door, they leave an organized housekeeping bag on the door handle with fresh towels, water bottles and all the amenities. Excellent service!

I kind of panicked before my actual trip as I realized that the location was near the Kyoto City Hall, instead of Shijo Kawaramachi where I thought it was (I had booked based on the map in Booking.com and made a mistake) and where transport would be more convenient. I was travelling with my mum so that was an important thing. I think it turned out well - I'd consider this to be a good place to stay the next time I'm in Kyoto. Although a bit out of the way, it was at least still near one train station, and although the train line wasn't as convenient as the other lines in Kyoto, it was possible to transfer. There was also a bus stop nearby with buses going to Shijo Kawaramachi. Another bus stop near to the City Hall about 8 minutes walk away had buses serving several tourist spots, and those buses tend to be less crowded than those going to Kyoto station. So for example when we were at Heian Shrine, while the queue was very long as most tourists were headed for Kyoto station, the bus we took to the City Hall was much less crowded with no queues. The hotel had back alleys with interesting restaurants, and there's also a 7-11 a few steps away. There's also an underground mall with some restaurants. The Northern end of Teramachi is just across the road.

Unlike some other hotels I've stayed in where there were still a sizeable number of local clients, the clients in this hotel seemed to be all foreigners. And it was a pain to go to the onsen where people would wear the hotel clogs straight in, or who would bring their mobile phones in and stare at their phones while soaking in the onsen (this I encountered almost daily). The hotel should do more to educate foreign clients on how the common bath should be used. I also thought the use of dim lightings in the corridors and the room itself was a bit overdone. I'd prefer more brightness.

Wonderful, welcoming staff that helped us with luggage forwarding and receiving a package. Their front desk runs 24 hours, and they speak excellent English. The public baths are scenic, hot, and so relaxing. Definitely a highlight. Despite being on the smaller side, the rooms are clean, stylish, and well laid out. The facilities are generally beautiful. There's also an onsite restaurant/café/bar that looks quite good.

No view from the room. (We were on the second floor, so the windows were frosted instead of clear.) Housekeeping only every third day (although they will leave replacement towels for you!), which may not be ideal for very short stays. Location not right off any public transit, although central to several of Kyoto's attractions (the imperial palace, Nishiki Market, Gion).

I loved how peaceful the hotel was. It smelled amazing, felt very clean and overall was a relaxing hotel to stay in. I enjoyed using the onsen during my stay. It was nice that the hotel staff gave fresh towels, water bottles and small bath items everyday. They definitely went above and beyond any hotel that I've stayed at!

Rooms were small but that's typical for most Japanese hotels.

I stayed here with two others and had the pleasure of sleeping on the floor futon, which was actually very comfortable. The room was spacious and we loved the tatami floors. Some basic amenities were provided on a self serve basis on the first floor which was convenient. We didn't utilize any facilities that the hotel offered. I loved that Pontocho Alley was within walking distance (about 10 minutes?), so we could enjoy the nightlife around the area without worry of missing the last train. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and I would definitely consider staying here again in the future.

Wonderful hotel in a great location. Close to Teramachi Compasso with Nishiki Market, Manga Museum, underground, Kamo river, Pontocho and the Old Town. Very quiet area, 7 eleven just behind the corner. Great very diversified breakfasts, nice restaurant menu. The room was rather small but big enough. The design is very inviting with beautiful area in front, the restaurant and the lobby with a small infinity pool and some plants. All atmodpheric and cosy.

The stuff spoke rather poor English. The onsen for women was very crowded most of the time in the afternoon and evening, while the part for men mostly vacant. Anyway, finally managed to get there before 6am :)

-great position in the center of Kyoto! You can walk in 15 minutes to Higashiyama, Nishiki market and Gion! -large and comfortable bed -2 lines of underground trains at walking distance -very quiet room -great view form the window -amenity set was the best I have seen in Japan so far! You even get free matcha tea set!!

-The breakfast did not have enough variety and there were not enough sweets or cakes. -There is a large onsen stile shared bathroom and spa but for it is forbidden to people with tattoo, even if you are a foreigner. If you have a tattoo you will be asked to purchase a sticker at extra cost at the counter.

This is an absolutely lovely hotel. The facilities before you arrive to your room are modern and truly well appointed. In addition, the onsen is a WONDERFUL feature of this hotel, and was used every single day of the trip, sometimes twice a day. This review is for the men's onsen, as the women's onsen was not used. There were times of the day that were extremely busy (afternoon/evening), but other than that, the onsen was a saving grace. I also enjoyed the amenities available daily, which you would pick up yourself; they're not delivered to your room. The hotel is also close to Nishiki market and the lovely river. You'll also be closer to Gion and activities in that part of Kyoto. The hotel is a little less than convenient for getting to Kyoto station, but we walked to the corner and hailed taxis every day and had no problem there. There are only 2 washers/dryers for the entire hotel, but there is a laundrymat a few doors down (which seemed to be where many folks did their laundry).

The beds were hard. I'm not someone who needs a super soft bed, but these were just a bit too hard for our liking. The air in the room was also EXTREMELY dry and dusty. I'm not sure when the room was last deep cleaned, but it's clear that the focus was not on cleanliness. The hotel's process for putting out the trash was odd and inconvenient, as it led to trash doubling up in our room for about 3 days at one point.

Rooms are comfortable and have some nice touches like the sliding paper doors over the windows and electric blinds. They are relaxing with nice ambient lighting. Location is good for walking into Gion.

The breakfast was ok...we had to wait in reception for a free table as the dining room is quite small and it wasn't laid out particularly well with a lot of back and forth to look for things. And things kept running out...no forks, no glasses, no spoons, no cereal, empty dishes in the hot options (which arent under hot lamps so things get a little cold)....so i had to keep asking the waiters to replenish things. The staff were lovely and were doing their best but it didn't seem like they could keep up. For the price I was excepting a little more choice of Western options and better quality produce. I didn't bother with it again after the first morning.

The room (deluxe twin) was amazing and very new / clean. The women’s bath was very nice! Also I really appreciated the amenities in the room and downstairs, especially the matcha set :) I got the room through a promotion, so it was good value for money in my case.

The air conditioning wasn’t very stable, and it kinda stop working in the middle of the night. I called the reception and they were able to manually set it to my preferred temperature. The location is ok, but it is not super close to the metro station and the central area. I ended up taking a few taxis to avoid walking 15/20 minutes.
