MOGANA

-Room was very beautiful and clean, very comfortable. There was a dressing room so the luggage could be stored comfortably. Nice drinks in the fridge. -Bathroom is amazing, bathtub is huge, allowing excellent baths after long days of walk - breakfast was diverse and tasty - employees were perfect, very helpful and efficient - I really liked the design of the hotel and the bar - excellent location

Important : the rooms really need blackout / occultant curtains. There was only a thin yellow curtain letting in 70% of the light from outside, difficult for people used to sleep in the dark. Unfortunately I did not have very good nights of sleep despite the high bedding quality because of this Also: there should be a way to keep the balcony door open without holding it , to aerate the room Apart from these 2 comments everything was really perfect

Beautiful sleek hotel, very relaxing, quiet and incredibly clean!

I accidentally booked a room without an outside view. My room window only allowed light in but the window was frosted so I couldn’t see out. Make sure your room has a view of the garden or city.

Service was impeccable and hotel was quiet and calm. The breakfast/meals were extremely delicious, even exquisite with details like a stuffed cherry tomato. I also appreciated the Dyson hairdryer. Hotel staff also helped us with our restaurant reservations and helped me organize the delivery of some belongings back to Tokyo. The complimentary drink in the evening at the bar was a really nice touch as well. Also loved the understated style of the hotel reception - the bonsai plants and the artwork, and the wall projection which you can see from the bar.

Nothing really. While Mogana may not be as conveniently located in the heart of shopping or sightseeing areas, we always enjoyed the 20 to 30-minute nice stroll back in the evenings.

The hotel was phenomenal. It looked like it was relatively small, and very quiet. The service was also amazing, the staff was very polite, gave us a few pieces of info upon check-in, and also escorted us to the room and showed us around. Breakfast is served daily in the room, according to what time we informed them the day prior, and the styles rotates every few days ( unfortunately only stayed two days, so we got Japanese style and Western). All in all, it was a fantastic stay, and we shall be back to MOGANA on our next Kyoto visit.

Incredibly cool, chic hotel! Room was a great size, very spacious with a huge bathroom. We had a view over the internal atrium with rock garden and living wall, which was very relaxing - especially on the one rainy day! Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was different each day and was Japanese style but with some Western touches. We stayed in three very different hotels on our trip but Mogana was out favourite.

Mogana is a small boutique hotel - anyone staying there should expect that this is the case, and as such they don't have the facilities of larger hotels. But knowing that's what we booked there was nothing disappointing about Mogana - would definitely stay there again.

The design, location all very good and comfy. But my highlight was how the staff went the extra mile to help me make difficult reservations, recommended less known, secluded and less touristy spots (and every single recommendation was just spot on!!). I can’t stop thinking about their customer service, I’ve lived in Japan but Mogana truly employed very kind hearted people and presented Omotenashi culture with the highest standards. I will keep recommending this hotel to all my friends who are going to Kyoto .

First time back in Japan in almost three years. Decided to stay at very modern, high design, Mogana this time because of all the positive reviews. The location is not as convenient as some other hotels but it gave me a chance to see a less tourist filled side of Kyoto with lots of side alleys that made the whole experience more of a discovery. I arrived by taxi after the Haruka express from Kansai airport and check in was quick and efficient. The room looked exactly as it does in photos. Minimalist glass pod. Onsen style black granite bathtub. Lighting is a bit too fluorescent for me, for a hotel room (room 602) the lighting used should be more warm (I had to filter photos for my photo album). Aircon was also a bit loud at night. Otherwise I was quite happy with my choice, especially liked the rock garden outside with the courtyard plants wall that allowed a peak at the sky, the frosted glass in front of the bed allowed in muted sunlight, all very clever modern yet Japanese aesthetics.

Mogana is where modern meets tradition. A minimalist yet tastefully designed experience welcomes all that enter. It almost feels like you have your own home as the staff are hardly ever seen. Yet when you need them, they are there with a smile on to deliver a top-notch service. We loved the breakfast in bed and our favourite was the traditional Japanese breakfast that was served early in the morning. The bathroom was spacious and you are pampered with luxury.

It would have been nice if there were windows in our room but that was not an issue as we booked our stay knowing this.

The hotel very stylish, girls from reception were very friendly and helped us with everything-restaurants bookings, any information. Room was very big and white with amazing garden. We didn’t hear anything in this room, it’s a very quite place. We slept like a babies, bed was unbelievably comfortable, pillows were amazing. Every day cleaning, you have everything in your room and even more. All details were so touchable. Highly recommend this place !

Comfortable bed. Incredible design. Friendly staff.

Little bit hidden away in a residential area. Mis-matched sizing for provided bed clothing. Amenities (soaps, body wash, shampoo etc) were a little too botanical and irritated our skin/scalp. Bar was a bit smaller than it looked online, and a limited selection. Bit too expensive for what it actually offered, and seemingly too focussed on the property looking great at the expense of customers’ genuine enjoyment whilst staying.
