We got the Superior Double Room. Location: Very convenient, lots of shops and restaurants nearby, sightseeing by bus very easy Staff: Very helpful, very kind Room: Room is a bit smaller than on the picture, but adequate with the space and comfortable. We found solutions for both suitcases, one by the door, one on the sofa. If that is too tight for you, you should opt for a bigger room. Extras: We absolutely loved the pajamas in the room and we were sooo sorry that we could not buy them. Absolutely comfortable! Lovely touch with the free coffee/tea/juice corner by the reception. Would I return to Kyoto, I would book it again

Breakfast: Japanese fixed menu, no buffet. There is the city bakery a 10 min walk away, should you prefer continental breakfast.

A brilliant hotel, in a great location close to the river and within walking distance of Gion and the Teramachi, Shinkyogoku and Nishiki market streets. We stayed in a superior double room which had a great view from two windows and cosy seating area to rest after long days of sightseeing. The room was spotlesslessly clean and warm. The lovely staff at reception were always very helpful and friendly and the room was cleaned and made up for us perfectly every day. The lifts in the hotel were fast and always very quiet. We had a fantastic stay and would love to come back to SH by the Square.

The hotel exceeded my expectations with its fantastic location, brand-new building, comfortable and perfectly cleaned rooms, and friendly staff. I also highlight the soft touch pajamas provided, excellent quality toiletries, and large-size bathtub. Despite not having a nearby metro station (for someone with luggage), the hotel is on a main street (yet quiet), and comfortable buses come and go to the Kyoto train station every few minutes.

The Japanese-style breakfast is delicious, but more variety (e.g., some grilled fish) throughout the days would be welcomed by guests like me who spent almost a week in the hotel. Free wifi speed could be better.

Staff at reception was super nice and friendly. I had booked two rooms with a Japanese style bathroom. There is only a limited number of this room type, so I was happy to get them. Room was comfortable and had a good size. Bed has a good size in my eyes and I slept really well in it. A/C worked well, a small fridge is available and there was also a charger with USB-C, Lightning and micro available. If you arrive earlier than official check-in time, you can store your luggage with them. Bus station is very close to the hotel, which was super convenient, so you can easily get around, and there are direct lines to Kyoto Station (ca. 13 min ride). Super markets are close by and also shopping district. You can also walk to Kiyomizudera from the hotel, it's not even 30 minutes. I can't say anything about the breakfast/restaurant at the hotel, as we didn't use it. If I'd come back to Kyoto in the future, I would book this hotel again.

Lovely hotel in a super location in Kyoto. We really enjoyed our time here and due to it's location we found it very easy to travel around all the sites in Kyoto. The staff was very friendly and the room was brilliant, with a good view of the mountains and it was a very good size and loved the walk in shower room. It was also very clean. The breakfast was a traditional Japanese one, very different to what we are used to, but we both really enjoyed it. Checking in and out was super quick and the reception area ordered us a taxi to bring us to Kyoto station at the end of our stay. Overall, really enjoyed our time here and our time in Kyoto. Hope to come back some day :-) Thank you to all staff there.

1.More variety for breakfast. Although appreciated the Japanese breakfast, eating beef every morning became a little to heavy. Would have loved if grilled fish could have been offered as a choice. Only found out about the vegetarian breakfast on the final morning of our stay. Western breakfast of just 1 thick toast with re bean paste and an egg was a little too spartan. 2. That reception was not able to book more than 1 taxi for our group of 5 to Kyoto Station upon departure. So the rest of us had to flag down taxi on the roadside

Location was great. Easy to walk into Gion area, to some of the nearby temples, and to nearby restaurants (we highly recommend Men-ya Inoichi and Ramen Muraj, though queue early for Men-ya I. to get a ticket as it sells out very quick). We taxi'd around, but also found it relatively easy coming back from the Bamboo Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari sites by public transport. The staff were also very nice, and the breakfast was delicious ( it was also BIG)

They were unable to help us with restaurant bookings in advance of arriving. This is actually what we found in lots of Japan hotels. It feels strange when we have already paid. The laundry machines were useful, but ideally they would have at least 2 more as they are always in high demand.

Clean, decently sized and how friendly the staff are. They do the little things extra like leaving fresh towels and some water at the door when you’re not at home during the day.

Nothing bad about the property aside from the slight awkward distance from the main Kyoto station, walking is probably abit of a stretch, catching a taxi was around 1000yen so it’s not bad at all, the distance to Kyoto kawaramachi centre was about a 10min walk but you could also use the bikes thats available by the hotel or use the LUUP scooters and bikes thats also scattered around the hotel to get around Kyoto too.

Very clean and modern hotel in a great location, walking distance to Gion and central Kyoto. Short/few mins taxi ride to Kyoto station. Great amenities, our room had a Dyson hairdryer and iron/ironing board which is rare to find these days. Free toiletries are provided at reception and free beverages. The customer service was exceptional, in all my travels I have never experienced staff going above and beyond to help. The trainee staff member on her break offered to stand outside in a hail storm to find us a taxi (and gave us her umbrella as we were leaving), so we wouldn’t miss our train back to Tokyo. She was brilliant. Cost of this hotel is really good for what you get, great value for money.
