This hotel was fantastic. There was a review that said this place was in the middle of nowhere “with nothing around it”. This hotel is literally across the street from the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Gardens, and surrounded by streets of bakeries and restaurants. It only took us about 15 minutes to get to the Gion district. The staff at this hotel were extremely helpful and sweet, and the room was beautiful and huge.

There was nothing we didn’t like! It was great.

Stylish design which could be described as quirky in a good location to explore that area of the city. Also a small hotel - which we like - which was quiet with very helpful staff. Very good breakfast in a nicely styled dining room.

Nothing to dislike but to be aware that it is about four or five subway stops from the main station in Kyoto (which is an attraction in itself). However, the immediate location around the hotel had good restaurants and shops and was a short walk to the Emperors Palace gardens and a similar distance to the attractive river that runs through the city.

We stayed in the suite which was very large and tastefully decorated. The bed was comfortable and big. The spa was the most comfortable I have ever used. The staff were lovely and accommodating. The hotel is set in suburbia but we found this was great as we enjoyed walking around and observing the daily lives of the locals. It is located approximately 30 mins walking distance to the Gion district and around 15 mins to Teramachi, restaurants and shops. 15 mins walk to the local train and close to the Kyoto Imperial Palace.

Our room did not have a view as the hotel is set amongst local buildings and had frosted windows. Although there is a terrace on the top floor, I like to be able to see outside from my room. Having a coffee machine was great but milk/cream was not available in the room which meant I had to keep asking for it. We also did not have any black tea

This is a wonderful little boutique hotel in Kyoto located about a 10 min walk to the Nishiki market and a 15 min drive to the Kyoto station. Bus stops and train stations within walking distance connect you to the important destinations. The rooms are quite large and well appointed. The staff is very helpful and friendly and always attentive. The breakfast is elaborate, large and fantastic - both the western and japanese style. IF you get the executive suite, it comes with a projector and bose sound system in a living space along with the standard TV. They have a nice rooftop too. Overall it is a great hotel and worth the stay.

The room could do with a little bit more sunlight. Also, the rooftop is highly underserved. There are no time windows when they serve drinks or food up there which they should do. However you can get drinks from the restaurant to be served up there.

My husband and I stayed at The Screen for two nights. We had booked this hotel for its central location and its unique artistic rooms. We pre-selected a room that we received which had an amazing aesthetic, as good if not better than the photos on the website! The staff made our stay very welcome, all from check-in to the reception, to arrangements for breakfast & lunch, to ordering our taxis and holding our luggage. The hotel and room were both very clean and fancy. The King-size bed and expansive bathroom were really nice bonuses. Aside from the elegance of the hotel, we were blown away by the staff's attentiveness to detail and willingness to help each step of the way. I have food allergies and the restaurant was able to accommodate my gluten and dairy allergy, providing me with extremely healthy and delicious food each day (for breakfast and dinner, even gluten-free rolls which were very good!). My husband and I appreciated the staff's support in helping me eat a healthy and safe meal, but not sacrificing quality. The presentation of all dishes was also incredibly beautiful. The staff helped us feel welcome and were always eager to help answer any questions. Thank you 'The Screen' for all of your support and thoughtfulness, special shoutout to Taro for making each meal incredibly special! :)

Nothing!

We arrived shortly before lunch time and far too early for a welcome drinks were served. After a first sight seeing tour and too late for the official Welcome Drinks, they offered us to serve it to our room - very nice. The location of the hotel is great, a lot of nice small restaurants are in walking distance, also the public transportation is just around the corner. Very quiet venue. Great place to stay in Kyoto

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The style of the room was beautiful and enjoyed having a spa bath to relax in. This place was luxurious and incredible.

The chairs in our specific room (red styled room) were not comfortable but that’s understandable for the style of the room. The shower was very small and the shower curtain was uncomfortable as it keep sticking to you while showering because of the small sizing. It was unfortunate for us that the laundry services were not working the day of arrival which I was not informed about when asking prior to arrival for laundry prices and that if you put in your laundry before 9am that day you would get it before 3pm the next day. This was unfortunate as the day we would be checking out before 12pm the next day. You could get it same day back at a express service at 50% increase price surcharge.

On arrival our suite had been upgraded to an exec suite. The staff were all very helpful. Room service and food was all great. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The TV was the easiest to connect to so far (this is our 5th hotel in Japan).

Whilst it was lovely to have such a huge room, our chosen suite had been white and airy whilst the upgrade was very dark... Every surface was grey. Barely knew if it was night or day when inside, but I can't fault the space itself. Pure luxury.

The staff at The Screen were very helpful. The room was spacious, well laid out and extremely comfortable. The spa bath was a good size and the bathroom was well laid out. There were many restaurants within walking distance. It's located close to the Imperial Palace and with easy access to public transport, particularly the bus to Arashiyama (for the Bambook Forest and Monkey Park). The Nishiki Markets and Gion were about a 20 min walk away. Would highly recommend this hotel.

i love our unique room designed by a local artist and had a california king sized bed. the pajamas were 10/10, really big tv with streaming platforms, amazing floor to ceiling window with view of temple across the street. I would definitely stay here again.

the bathroom smelled a bit of mildew. no windows, so understandable. they did have an air purifier but not a very convenient place for but. but still a a very nice shower/tub.
