Excellent hotel. The location was prime putting us within walking distance of major attractions and the subway station. The staff was wonderful they were highly proficient in Japanese, English and Cantonese therefore if you are a native speaker of any of these languages you will have no trouble here. The breakfast was great similar style each day bur different flavours. For example the western breakfast always featured egg but each morning it was cookes differently such as a frittata or an omelette or hard boiled or fried. The breads changed, protein changes.. basically you wont be bored with breakfast and its catered to your room. The rooms were very spacious and I love a hotel with a washer/dryer it allows me to pack lighter. Yes the room has its own dryer in Japan that's unheard of even in private homes there is normally no dryer or folks opt for an all in one machine. will absolutely pick this hotel again when i return to Kyoto!

The hallways smelled a little damp I could tell they were fixing that. They had typhoon rains roll in a week prior to our arrival we suspect the hall got a little damp and they were correcting it. The room was unaffected. Very small itty bitty thing.

Our rooms were large, quiet, & very clean. Staff were always very excellent, friendly and helpful. We felt very well looked-after as there was always someone at the front desk (someone is available 24 hrs a day). Thank you for a wonderful stay!

It’s situated in a quieter neighbourhood so it’s about a 15-20 min walk to the main shopping/dining area around Teramachi which some might find a little far. But there were dining options in the area and convenience stores were also available. Wifi could have been better but it didn’t really affect us.

It was our second visit to the Tomoya Residence Hotel. We went in 2023 and also 2024. We decided to go back because the room was very clean, the staff very professional and the location very good. The hotel remind me of my grandparent hotel and feels very like home. We got a room upgrade on the second trip and it was an amazing surprise. We appreciate the gesture and really enjoy our trip. We would definitely come back.

This was the best experience I've ever had for my travel lodging, period. The staff at the front desk were always extremely welcoming and helpful with making reservations or calling a taxi. The room was clean, spacious, and very well-appointed. We stayed six nights in a larger suite with a garden view, large living area (couches, kitchenette), and very useful clothes washer/dryer, and a single night in a different, slightly smaller, but still spacious double room for our last night. (The hotel graciously allowed us to extend our stay by a single night when we changed our travel plans just a week or two before our stay.) Both were lovely spaces to start the day with a cup of coffee/tea and unwind after a long day of sightseeing. The location was central to many areas of the city we wanted to visit and only a short (less than 5 minutes) walk from convenient subway or bus stops that we often took advantage of, especially when it rained. Huge bonus points for us that the neighborhood itself, despite being central, was quiet, calm, and peaceful. I cannot recommend staying here enough. I find that often "smaller number of rooms so we can provide better service" is just a marketing slogan – here, it was actually the truth.

Bed & pillows were super comfortable. Amenities were fabulous, shower & bath was great, very clean and modern. Very pleased with our stay here. Front counter service and happy greetings were always warm and sincere. We Would highly recommend this location for a family to stay. Easy walking distance or taxi ride to everything that we needed to visit and see. 10/10 Kyoto was perfect and thanks to this great hotel it was relaxing specially after a big day of walking and sight seeing. Very quiet at night and early mornings. Lots of hidden restaurants in the street and surrounding street where the locals go. Booking essential to eat out at night locally specially for more than two people.

This was the 2nd time we stayed at Tomoya. We love it so much so we stayed 5 nights this time. We like: 1. The staff are so so helpful and lovely. We feel this is the biggest asset of Tomoya 2. Size of the room, very spacious and everything in the room is well designed maintained. 3. The room is cleaned spotlessly. 4. Good size separated toilet and bathroom 5. Location: about 5 mins walk to the subway. Lots of good restaurants neby.

1. No windows 2. TV only shows local channels. Please upgrade to a smart tv so we can have our own music and Netflix channels.

Room was extremely spacious, clean and modern. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The location was also quite convenient, quiet and close by convenient stores and several small restaurants. I would highly recommend this room if travelling with family or children as there is sofa that can be converted into a bed and also a tatami room that can sleep another 2 people. The washing machine and dryer means you can even pack lighter.

The breakfast could have been better and served hot. Being winter, I can understand why it would have arrived a little cold. It would be good if there was a Japanese style breakfast as an option.

We loved staying at Tomoya Residence. It was a great experience. Our rooms very really spacious and nice. The staff at the hotel was amazing, very professional and friendly. We felt that all of our needs were 100% met. I would definitely book this hotel again.

It was lovely, the only small downside was maybe the breakfast. It was good, but it could use a little variety.

Great hotel with outstanding service. Our two-bedroom room was spacious, with a great living room, superb bathroom, and the list could go on. A sumptuous breakfast was served at the desired time each morning, and we all loved the Nespresso coffee maker in the room. The location may not be perfect, but the quality of the experience more than justifies a short walk (about 5 to 7 minutes) to public transportation.

Well appointed room with balcony. The room was large and modern in comparison to other Japanese hotels. Very helpful staff in advance and during our stay. We ended up visiting an exceptional French style restaurant within walking distance called Bistro Ramage for dinner. We highly recommend it. This hotel is a great stay if you are visiting Kyoto. Our only recommendations are to be able to customize the breakfast options and have foam pillows are an options
