The owners are amazingly friendly and attentive, very accomodating to all guest needs, a great source of info as to local sights and where to go/how to get there. As a solo traveller, I stayed over a week and found the property safe, cozy and very comfortable, with a amazing location within walking distance to a lot of sights and buses (ex: direct bus to/ from Kyoto station and a famous local shrine are both within a one min walk of the hotel, the imperial gardens within a 15min walk). It was very nice to come home after a day of sightseeing to be greeted by the friendly owner and enjoy a hot shower and soak in the relaxing, enormous Japan style bath tub. Wooden structure of the building seems a precious cultural relic, but very lovingly taken care of and very comfortable to stay in. I found the room very quiet and relaxing and sound insulation was not an issue like I thought it may be for older wooden buildings-there were other guests but the only real background noise is the chirping of cicada and crickets in the garden (my room looked out into the garden directly and the view is very zen and relaxing). There are times you feel as if you've travelled back in time a century or two. All in all staying here was a intensely relaxing and unique experience I would highly recommend to everyone.

My girlfriend and I had a fantastic stay at Yadoya Nishijinso. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay—the lovely ryokan strikes a great balance between traditional Kyoto-style hospitality (tatami floors, beautiful garden, etc.) and contemporary comforts, the location is great for exploring the city, and Kazumi, the host, is warm, helpful, informative, attentive, and especially sensitive to the parts of the experience that are distinctly Japanese (such as the traditional Japanese baths). Any travelers would do well to choose Yadoya Nishijinso for their stay!

The ryokan's WiFi range is limited, but your time is likely better spent enjoying the property itself, not to mention all Kyoto has to offer!

Everything was very clean and cozy, and almost felt like it was from a different time. Beautiful garden, tatami floors throughout, traditional Japanese style room. A recommended experience for anyone visiting Japan!

The bath facilities are very clean and have everything you need, though if you want to take a Japanese style bath you need to request for the owners to prepare the tub. Not a major issue, but requires planning and leads to the owners regularly asking when you plan on showering every day.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Inn Nishijinso. It was a truly exceptional experience. From the moment we stepped into the traditional Japanese inn, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a serene atmosphere. The breakfast was an absolute feast for the senses, with a stunning array of dishes that showcased the best of Kyoto's culinary traditions. Each item was expertly prepared and presented with the utmost care. But the food wasn't the only highlight of my stay. The traditional Japanese bath, or onsen, was an experience I will never forget. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring the city. The Ryokan itself is beautifully designed, with traditional Japanese architecture and furnishings that transport you back in time. The attention to detail is impressive, with every aspect of the Ryokan thoughtfully considered to create a truly authentic experience. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with tatami flooring and futon beds that are surprisingly cozy. The Okami and the manager are incredibly welcoming and friendly, always happy to offer recommendations and advice on the best places to visit in Kyoto. The manager is very proficient in English. The level of service is exceptional. Overall, I cannot recommend this Ryokan enough. The attention to detail, the warm hospitality, and the beautiful setting all come together to create a truly unforgettable experience. For anyone looking for a traditional Japanese inn experience in Kyoto at a very affordable price, the Inn Nishijinso is an excellent choice.

The staff was super nice and helpful, and the place felt really cozy. The shower rooms were nice and the Japanese style bath was great after a long day. The rooms itself were good, our room had a nice and relaxing view to the garden. The ryokan was located at a quiet place, with a supermarket and a bus stop next to it. The staff was nice, they gave us plentiful of great tips what places to visit and how to get to them using public transport. Overall a pretty great experience and would highly recommend to everyone wanting to try a ryokan!

The rooms had only one socket, which made difficult with 3 people at the room. The place is located at a quiet and somewhat remote are, which could be a negative thing to some people. Also you compromise a little bit of privacy, considering some of the walls are made of glass and shoji (paper walls).

The owners were extremely nice and were more than happy to assist you in anything you needed. The place was very cozy and the Japanese-style bathroom was great as well. The location was also very convenient, with the subway station and a couple of bus stations very close by. There's also a 7-Eleven next door.

The ryokan was everything I was hoping for, super cool place to sleep in if you really want to immerse in Japanese culture. The only inconvenient I had with my room was that it was next to the entrance and with two of the walls being made out of paper you could perfectly hear when other guests came in or left and their conversations, and they could hear yours from the outside, so sometimes you couldn't get much privacy.

The couple that hosted it were so helpful and nice. I got some exceptional help from them. The breakfast was so rich and delicious. I do like the opportunity for shower and hot bath. There are some house rules, so you have to tell the hosts when you take a shower and then the hot bath (in the same room). It was very relaxing. In some way it is like staying in a bigger house and it imagined this is how it is, living and traveling used to be in older times. The location is good, as I wanted to explore more that neighbourhood this time and the bus stop of bus 12 (e.g. golden temple) is just there.

Some people might not like the sounds of staying in an old house, but when you want an authentic experience, this is part of it. I used some earplugs in the evening, but then the house is really quiet at some point.

Nishijinso is a hidden pearl in the nearby if the Imperial Palace. The hosts are really kind and helpful and take care of their house with love and good taste. The Japanese-style room facing the little garden is simply magnificent: spacious and with lovely atmosphere!

It can happen that, since the walls are quite thin, you can hear the other guests in the upper floor walking or jumping.

The staff were exceptionally kind and accommodating. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and to give us advice on how to navigate Kyoto to get to all of the places we wanted to see. Our room as gorgeous and comfortable. There was a beautiful garden outside of our sliding door that we could sit in and enjoy until late at night. Highly recommend staying here.

The only thing that wasn't perfect during this stay was that the men's bathroom smelled very strongly of urine. The facilities were otherwise completely clean and perfect.

Whoever visits Kyoto and wants to experience traditional houses this place is a must. The hosts were lovely and we stayed for 4 nights in total. It was absolutely worth it. The bathrooms are shared but as long as you speak with the host you will have allocated private time there. It is also close to train stations and within walking distance to the imperial palace.
