November 2023

It was my first time staying at Ryogoku View Hotel, and I requested a bunk bed room for two people for a 7-night stay. The room was small but clean and well-ventilated since it had a balcony. The small size of the room wasn't an issue for us, but for persons over 6ft, it may feel quite cramped. The beds had stiff mattresses, which is great for your back, and a single pillow. I'm not sure if you can request more pillows. The bathroom was also small, with the toilet seat right in front of the door. It's a bit tight but again, not too much of an issue. Toiletries were available and the liquid bath soap, shampoo and conditioner was good enough that we didn't feel the need to purchase something different. The shower and bath was lovely since the water was heated at a consistent temperature. Overall, pretty good room and bath! The location of the hotel was the deciding factor when I booked it because it is right in front of Ryogoku station (JR line). All you need to do is cross a little street and walk less than a minute to get to the entrance to the front desk. It's also surrounded by convenience stores (A 7-11 and a NewDays at the station exit, and a Family Mart a little down the road) and has a great selection of restaurants nearby. The staff are wonderful at the hotel, and are so accommodating! We were allowed to store our luggage prior to check-in at 3PM, and even after the 11AM check-out. You just have to let them know what time you'll be around to pick up the luggage. Quick note-- Ryogoku station is on the JR Sobu line, which is a local line which means that it stops at every station on the line. To my knowledge, there are no other lines that stops at this station. To get there from Narita, we took the Keisei Narita Skyaccess line from Narita Airport Terminal 2/3 station to Asakusabashi station , and transferred to the JR Sobu line to Ryogoku Station. This all took about an hour.

One time when we requested housekeeping, the balcony door was left open which was extremely worrying but as far as we could tell, no belongings of ours were taken.

The hotel has a fantastic location for exploratory trips in Tokyo — very close to the Ryogoku station. This also means shops and cafés nearby. The are is somewhat busy, but it didn't disturb us much. There is little space in the room, but the facilities are decent. We were very happy to have a single room for all us three. The room had a tea set (kettle, cups, tea bags), fridge and desk, tiny bath tub and toiletries. The personal was very friendly. The hotel is a bit old-fashioned, but offers great value for money from our perspective.

There is pretty little space, but this is pretty typical for hotels in Japan unless you're ready to spend a lot of money.

I stayed in the hotel back in 2016 with my friends and I picked it again for my travel with my parents because of the location. it’s 1 minute from the JR ryogoku station so it’s very very convenient(note:cause if it’s proximity, you can hear the trains till about 11pm if that’s gonna be a problem for anyone, we were alright with it). Staffs were extremely polite and friendly throughout our 4 nights stay, always greeted us with a pleasant smile. Rooms and bathroom are both very light airy and spacious, for Japanese hotel standards. hotel provided daily cleaning service, with daily change of towels, toothbrush, slippers, etc. Oh and there’s also lots of food options right outside the hotel. McD, traditional Japanese izakaya, 7/11, daiso, cosmetic and skin care shops, everything. My parents were very happy with the stay here. AC was working and beds were very comfy. Definitely will stay here again on my next visit to Japan.

nothing. everything was great.

The location of the hotel is a mere 2-3 minutes walk from the Ryogoku Station, which connects easily to Tokyo Station. I find the location is very convenient for its affordable price.

Noise level from the station is tolerable as we stayed in the 9th floor and noise are lessen from 12 midnight till morning. Those who tend to wake up by loud noise easily might not like it as they can easily be woken up at 6 am.

Excellent hotel, in good position if you travel by train, well connected to the main backbone of the public transports. Breakfast is not included, but a very good cafe' close to the reception offers western style breakfast, and other places are around as alternative.

Need to leave the key (old style keys) to the reception when going out: sometimes it may cause lines at the reception desk.

Extremely good location right next to Ryogoku station in the heart of Sumo. Even if it was right on top of the train tracks the noise was not a problem due to modern windows. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom modern with a nice bath. The room was spacious with three beds and extra sofa bed. Perfect when travelling with family.

Couldn't find much to complain about.

it’s very close to the station, very convenient if you have kids or you get easily tired of walking. We really love the area very close and lots of convenience stores, pharmacy and restaurants. The room is big enough for us and you can really have a good sleep here the bed is soo comfy! They also do a daily room clean up! Not all budget friendly hotels do that btw. Loved it here! We will definitely go back here again!

the views from our family room were spectacular. the room was large and comfortable. the jacuzzi bath was fun. the neighbourhood is interesting and we enjoy encountering the sumo wrestlers in the streets around the hotel

some parts of the decor were a little tired and could do with a bit of attention. more could have made of the terrace area. But nothing spoiled our stay and were very happy with our room.

Excellent value for the quality and location. My room had a balcony and was very bright. It was spotlessly clean.

The property still uses old fashioned room keys and insists you leave your key with reception when leaving the hotel. It's slightly inconvenient and old fashioned. Also, there should be a better desk chair in the room, not just a short stool.

Very convenient location

Small room but it’s fine, they say it’s the usual in Japan. The room has a balcony but we weren’t allowed to go there anyway.
