Exceptional in all ways. I don’t have enough words to describe how we enjoyed our stay. Everything was excellent: the staff ready to take care of anything we need and to maintain a friendly conversation about the area, astonishing variety of DELICIOUS food for both breakfast and dinner (we had two of both and it was never the same and always so authentic!). Special thanks to Tae-san 🙏 Super cosy rooms with kotatsu, great anatomic pillows, warm blankets. Traditional dress with haori and yukata is provided to wear during your stay in ryokan (a-ma-zing-ly comfy and fancy). Two great in-house onsens, you can try both. Plenty of hiking trails, wonderful nature and wildlife around, beautiful during any weather (we got all: sun, rain, and snow 😁). The area is peaceful and quiet (we stayed during weekdays, mid-March). 10/10 experience, highly recommended!
Everything was impeccable

This is an exceptional place! Tugged away in the magical village of Dorogawa Onsen, their Ryokan welcomes its guests with care, very friendly staff and all the comfort one could hope for. The food was delicious and the Onsen perfect to wind down after a day of hiking and cherish the uniqueness if Japanese culture and geology. Compared to other Onsen Ryokans of the same level, the price was reasonable and even staying only one night (which I did) is enough to immerse into the experience. I highly recommend hiking up to Dorogawa on the way there along the Mitarai Valley Hiking Trail!

We were made to feel welcome and the Ryokan provided a fabulous, authentic experience. The food provided was wonderful with great quality local produce and generous dishes to experience. The location was also excellent and the staff gave suggestions and helped us to explore the area.
This property was excellent and nothing to fault. For foreign travellers, the bus from Dorogawa Onsen area into Shimoichiguchi station runs infrequently so check and plan ahead.

The staff at the hotel made us feel welcomed and cared for. They were friendly and helpful through and through, catering for all our needs. They also seemed to have a good time between themselves, which added a lot to the homely and relaxing atmosphere of the ryokan. The dinner and the breakfast were delicious, we got to taste all the diverse flavours of traditional Japanese cuisine. The fresh tofu was amazing. The baths were good, with all the necessities provided and a beautiful view of the river below, the rustle of the water was so soothing! Dorogawa is a beautiful town to visit, we were surprised with the friendliness of the people, the sights, and the challenging and rewarding hikes around the area.
Some minor details in the hotel, some walls had what seemed to be some marks of water damage, but this is just being picky.

Dorogawa is a great place to visit. I thought the ryokan was lovely and onsen baths relaxing. The staff were all nice and helpful. Breakfast was also enjoyable with a filling Japanese style breakfast.
The traditional sleeping futons and pillows are not great if you are use to western style beds and pillows. But is part of the experience

The ryokan overall was beautiful and our room was amazing! The onsen were lovely too. The staff were so helpful and did anything they could to make sure we had a great stay. They drove us to and picked us up from the trail head that we hiked and at dinner they insisted on driving us to the restaurant that we were dining at, because it was raining, even though the restaurant was quite close by. So caring!
Everything was perfect.

Extremely friendly and patient staffs. Spent a lot of time on us due to our poor japanese; took us to a local event, even took us to mitarai valley themselves. Awesome nice dinner and breakfast while enjoying beautiful view. Great facilities and onsen. 10/10!

What an incredible ryokan! Breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious and the room was very comfortable with my own toilet adjacent to my room; only the onsen/shower is shared. Right in the centre of town - an easy walk from the bus stop but they provide a shuttle service if you need it.
The stairs to the rooms are a bit steep so can be challenging if you're carrying heavy suitcases

A very authentic and comfortable experience, comfy futon, nice lighting, calm sleeping environment and of course the onsen: iiyudana! I went for an early hike to Mt. Omine and they packed breakfast as a boxed meal. Very nice staff, clean place.
