We booked a back room which was spacious and clean and quite a new build. Great showering facilities. Never saw staff, they offered free bikes but couldn't locate keys to unlock. That aside, it's a great location and easy walking to local eateries. Would recommend

Nice building and facilities, plus added amenities like luggage storage before check-in and after check out and rice porridge available in the morning if you're early enough. Information sheets about the local area were available.
Method of paying, and didn't see any staff the entire time so wouldn't know how to ask for help if there was a problem. Front entrance is also not in use currently.

We had unbelievable experience living in traditional Japanese house. Hundred years old wooden building preserved all details from old stove to sleeping on tatami using futon. Even feeling cold of the house during our stay in winter was needed to feel ourselves closer to what people where experiencing living in the old times in traditional buildings. Separate story of how grate and comfortable all organised inside, how detailed and attentive. It is a perfect location for exploring old town Naramachi and historical sites. Very close to the station and many stores around in five to ten minutes walk. Also great experience for us were few workshops, pottery classes, calligraphy and traditional ink making. Small local museum of the traditional toys is amassing, couple old houses open for free entrance to investigate all details including the inside garden is a very good possibility. And it's all located in couple minutes walk.
For us all was perfect.

The two rooms were simple, but clean and comfortable and a generous size for three people. We stayed in the family rooms with private bath. One room has two beds, and in the living room, you can put another bedroll at night. The hot tub was lovely with good hot water. The location is perfect for visiting the sites of Nara and really close to both the Craft museum and toy museum. Very close to a number of restaurants and the shopping streets but in a very quiet area.
It would have been nice to have some seats outside on the veranda even though it only looks out onto a strip of grass and some houses. There is another garden area, but it has not been kept up so again, it is not a place to linger. The seating in the rooms is either in the bed or on the floor. If you can only sit on raised seating, this is not the place for you.

The guesthouse caters for guests who are looking for a more traditional accommodation in Japan. The room with tatami and futon and private basin and toilet was very comfortable. The rice in the morning was a welcome start to the day. The communal showers were great with good hot water and pressure. A small garden in the back to enjoy the cooler evening air.
While there was a COVID wave, it would have been good to have someone there at least a few hours a day, or some way to contact someone other than by phone - perhaps whatsapp, for those who cannot use the local numbers. There was also no response to my messages through booking.com.

This is a real riokan at a hostel price. I still cannot believe we spent a night in an authentic traditional 100-year old Japanese house for that cheap! The neighborhood is very calm and quiet, so you can really enjoy the serene atmosphere of the place. It's conveniently located about 15 minutes by foot from the stations, and about the same from the park. To top it all off, you can leave your luggage before check-in and after check-out to enjoy your stay in Nara without being encumbered. Absolutely recommended!
The self check-in instructions were ok with bit of common sense, but could be clarified.

Nice little place in Nara. For some reason I had this mini study room above my bed too, so that was great to set up my laptop and chargers The dorm room is quite cozy and the place is very clean too Has a good little garden outside.
Basically 0 staff on location. I think one person comes like a day just to set everything up, but there's no reception to talk to or anything. You pretty much just follow the instructions on the sheet that is in a little box outside. Location is 10-15 minute walk from the nearest station. Bed is a bit hard, and your pillow is also very thin, I folded my pillow in half to make it a little more comfy.

Location is nice and close to the Nara Park. Easy to walk through the shops to the park to see the deer. Our room was beautiful with a nice garden view. It was raining lightly the night we stayed and after a hot summer day was super relaxing to open the door and listen to the rain on the garden. Our young daughters also appreciated the extra space to explore. Ryokans can be tricky with young ones sometimes but this one was great for them. The traditional room was exactly what I was hoping for. They didn't have any staff onsite while we were there but they have streamlined the whole process so it is super easy to check in and out. We really enjoyed our stay.

The building is a traditional style house and it’s beautiful. It is a 15 minute walk to the train station and Nara Park. It’s also a five minute walk to a 7-11. Bikes are available to rent for ¥500 a day. There is a large bathtub in the bath house, and excellent water pressure. A lot of the reviews mention not seeing any staff, but I saw her multiple times during my stay. She helped me check-in, even carrying my bag to my room. The self checkin is self-explanatory, which I don’t understand peoples’ complaints in other reviews.
The dorm was quite stuffy, and none of us could figure out the AC system as it was in all Japanese. My bunk and some of the other rooms were quite dusty. The sliding door in the dorm building was quite hard to move, and was very loud at night/in the morning while trying to sleep.

In this hotel you can feel like you would be in real Japan, not for foreign tourists but in a real japanese house. It could be a bit inconvenient for tourist from Europe that there is no central heating, just air condition, which can be turn on heating but only in your room, but when you go to the kitchen in winter there is about 10 degrees, or that in the tap of sink or washbasin is only cold water. But I think it depends on turist - you would prefer to spend time in luxury and it doesn't matter in what place on earth you do it, or you would prefer to feel what life looks like in a specific culture. That's why for me it was an amazing time with an amazing atmosphere and I truly recommend this hotel for people who love Japan.
