Our stay at Hotel Makaaba was exceptional! The included breakfast was filling, beautifully presented, and tasty, including a sweet plate and a savory plate. It was nice to hang out near the pool and there was plenty of shade. There were lots of communal areas to read, relax, or enjoy a drink from the hotel bar. The lagoon was just across the street and very close to a quiet public dock. The hotel was in touch with a local tour company called DayTour Bacalar that offered sailboat and SUP tours. Additionally, the hotel offered a number of other services like massages, mezcal tastings, etc., and the staff was super helpful in arranging these activities. The room was very comfortable and they offered pool towels. The air conditioning and fan helped keep the room cool and comfortable at night. The shower was great and the toiletries provided were exceptional. Filtered water was also provided in the room.

There were just a few ants, but it was not an issue.

Breakfast was very good! We loved our stay. The hotel is a unique design. Very modern, relaxing, the pool was nice to lounge in. Anyone with a mobility issue, this would not be a good place to stay. The rooms have stairs to the bed up in the loft. For us, we loved the cool design. There was a yoga platform that they will book a class with enough interest. You can workout in that same location on your own if you like. There’s green space behind the pool so it has a zen feel, in a natural setting. Town is a short walk away, you can rent a bike in town and explore from there. Lots of great restaurants Loved our time there and will return. This is a family run business which we loved, they have a vision and so far they are doing a great job!!!

It was the nicest place I've ever stayed. The design of the hotel is amazing, I loved the pools, and all the spaces to relax and chill out. Breakfast was great with lots of different choices and the man coordinating everything in the mornings was always really friendly. Location was easy walking distance to the main town area and to the lagoon.

Room was advertised with free bikes but this wasn't the case. The overall vibe was sometimes a little too serious, could be a little more fun / friendly / warm.

Lovely hotel & values with all their sustainability efforts; growing their own vegetables/fruits/eggs/honey on site for their restaurant was much appreciated. The pool and lounge areas were stunning, plentiful, and fun! The included breakfast was amazing. And, we liked the wellness space with weights on site to use. Lastly, location was perfect and close to both the water and center.

The wifi didn't work well/at all in our room in the back of the hotel so therefore the TV didn't work either because it couldn't connect to Netflix, Youtube, etc. Wasn't a huge problem since we didn't spend that much time in the room but seemed weird they even had a TV because it didn't work.

It represents how Sustainability can be charming. We are defenetely not usual “Spa users” but as soon as we came in the patio we felt a great feeling. The staff is super, the bar is great and the restaurant is amazing. We hope to come back and join the new restaurant they are working on! Bravi!!! graet project.

May be the room is a little be smaller than but it’s meant to use just a little bit, out of the room there is a paradise! Thanks

Best breakfast we had on our trip. Nice architecture, nice big pool with jump from 1st floor. Good location to city center.

Hotel pictures in the ad do not represent reality. Could have been cleaner overall and more maintained. A lot of lights are not working (only one light bulb in the pool). Rooms could be bigger. it's hard to handle stuff for two persons. Stairs up to the bed are very steep.

It really is a great value for such an affordable price. The breakfast was very good, they have a few vegan options which is always nice. They’re pet friendly and very relaxed, the staff is very helpful and friendly. The pool and common areas are beautiful and really well maintained and the snacks and cocktails at the bar are delicious. The concept of the place is awesome. They try to be as eco-friendly as possible. And in general it’s very clean. If you’re a younger person this is a very cool and affordable stay.

There are just 2 things that would have made it perfect. The first one is most guests leave their shoes and clothes out to dry in the hall, which doesn’t look great. Second is the size of the rooms. They’re smaller than I imagined and honestly I’m in my 40s and I find mezzanine beds very uncomfortable. But it’s really no big deal. Everything else is great. Oh! There was no water for a couple of hours but it’s fine, no one was really bothered and they fixed it as soon as they could.

The location and the hotel itself we’re really nice. You could walk to a lot of restaurants easily and also reached the lagoon within short walking distance. The atmosphere at the pool was great with good music and delicious drinks. Breakfast selection was big. For us the room was comfy and the size did not bother us at all, since you know what you book in advance.

The bar stuff was super friendly. Just the reception did disappoint us a little, since we asked for a trip they offered via the hotel and always received the answer that they will come back to us once they have an answer, but no one ever came up to us (after asking twice) why we booked something external in the end. On top we asked for a different pillow after the first night since it was way too stuffed, but they were not able to provide us with an alternative.

The structure of the hotel is so beautiful and very unique especially the pools they are stunning! Breakfast in the morning was delicious with a lovely view and the staff are all super friendly. The hotel organised a boat trip on the lagoon for me and my partner and that was probably our highlight of the whole trip in Mexico! Bacalar as a whole is a beautiful place and the local restaurants are also great.

It says no children under a certain age but there were a few we saw who were definitely younger so I don’t think it should be mentioned on the policy of the hotel. There isn’t a door on the toilet in the classic king bedroom, but we didn’t find that to be a big problem it’s just nice to have a door when using the toilet sometimes haha.

Everything. You can chill around the hotel everywhere. They made it lake the lagoon Bacalar with different depths in pools. Very cool. Besides that, they are an eco boutique which means they filter the water and use it again for the plants, they have their own chickens and beehives for honey. Breakfast is super yummy because of this; fresh. Also the location is perfect!
