Lovely garden room (2), very quiet and with access to a private space in the garden. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good evening meal recommendations. Brilliant location. Breakfast was pleasant continental style in a lovely room overlooking the garden. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Great shower and bath in the room. This was my second stay at this hotel and I would definitely stay again.

You had to pay for all your hot drinks at breakfast, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and herbal teas. I have never encountered this in a hotel of this calibre, should be included in the breakfast charge. The room key is sent via email and you have to open this to open your door. Although this might appeal to some people. I found it annoying. Phone has to always be charged. You have to take your phone everywhere with you when leaving your room. Difficult when bringing a tray back to your room and trying to open the door. I also left my phone in my room one evening, there is however always staff to hand if you have any issues.

Location great, staff very friendly and helpful, beautiful building. Breakfast was very nice. Garden and gym were nice as well. Loved the charm of the old building and even the steep narrow staircases felt like part of the experience.

The room was smaller than expected, having the sinks in the sleeping area and not in a bathroom felt like it degraded the quality. Also the design of the sink is problematic, there is no way to wash your face at that sink because the bowl is tiny and the faucet sticks up right up over the center of the bowl, so water ends up everywhere but in the bowl when trying to wash one’s face. The digital key also repeatedly did not work which was a minor annoyance.

Always clean, and staff is always friendly. Best included breakfast in Amsterdam.

The front door is in need of realignment as it is jamming on the door frame and is getting quite hard to open for smaller men or women.

The staff was accommodating, welcoming, and attentive. I don't know the names of all the staff, but Josh at the front desk spent a lot of time giving us suggestions and directions. A young lady at the front desk offered to make dinner reservations at a restaurant we wanted to visit later in the day. The staff in the breakfast room gave us great service. The breakfast room is beautiful, and if you're lucky enough to sit by the window you get a great view of a lovely garden. I loved our daily breakfast. I would certainly recommend booking the room to include breakfast. The soaps and lotions have a wonderful fragrance--I wish I would have bought some. For us, the location was very good. The hotel maintains much of its architectural significance.

I wish our room was a little bigger--our suitcases needed more space. I also wish we had gotten a room with a view. Be advised that it is dark decor, but there is adequate lighting--it's just not bright and sunny. It has a Rembrandt-like quality, so after being put off at first and then visiting the Rijksmuseum, I wound up liking it. I wish there were an outlet near the sink and mirrors for the hairdryer or shaver. I'm not a fan of having the bathtub/shower in the same room as the bed, but ours was separated by a short wall that had the TV on the bed side, and the sinks on the other side facing the shower. We were told that the hotel was at one time a private residence, so that explains a lot about the layout.

I loved the location and the employee who checked us in and greeted us was wonderful. As she checks us in, she gave us a juice shot which was a surprise, but refreshing. I was able to get an early check in which was wonderful as we were able take items out of our backpack before leaving for a tour. I was disappointed that there was a broken window in our room. Aesthetically, I didn’t expect it for the price of the room. Waking up the next morning to a cold room because despite the double paned window, the crack in the glass was allowing cold air in. We felt it from that window (and not the others). The worst part of our stay was when we were hurrying to leave at 8 am to be at Centraal Station before 8:30. The employee nonsensically said I had an additional charge and asked for my credit card and charged us an additional €50. I paid it and left because if we left any later, we would have lost out on €100 trip that morning.

The poorly designed and executed “charging” for potential “incidental costs” like snacks and drinks in the room. I’ve stayed at hotels in the United States and in the Netherlands and I have only ever been asked to have them record my credit card number in the event that there are charges. I am not charged for something I didn’t do or use and then refunded later.

room was good size. liked its dutch-ness view was nice hotel had bicycles great bath and shower lovely garden

the bicycles should be complementary. we were told we would be up for 500E if they were lost/stolen. does the hotel not have insurance for its own bicycles? that’s ridiculous. Got to love stairs as no lift but staff were happy to bring cases to the room we were there for 6 nights but our bed was often not made until after 2pm. Disappointing.

The hotel was in an excellent location with most places walkable from there. the hotel staff was wonderful, helpful and always ready and able to answer any and all questions. The garden in the back was a beautiful oasis to relax and have a drink in the afternoon. The rooms were lovely albeit the location of our room was such that it was hot on the afternoon and evening. The windows didn’t really open enough to let a breeze in during the night. That would be my only negative comment!

See above.

The location was great, a few minutes walk to main streets but nice and quiet with nice bars and places to eat near by. Breakfast was the usual continental type with hot food an extra cost (for my booking) but was fresh, tasty and well presented. The room was nice and mostly quiet, the facilities were good. It was approximately 20 minutes from the airport via taxi. I must say how friendly and helpful the staff were. No matter who was working we were always made to feel very welcome. They allowed us to keep using the room after our checkout time as we waited for the taxi. After the prebooked taxi didn’t show they sorted a new one out straightaway. The best hotel I have stayed in for friendly staff.

Charming boutique hotel facing a canal, in a pleasant area with plenty of dining options not too far away. Easily accessible from central station if you don't mind cobbled streets. We had a large, well equipped room and separate bathroom facing the rear courtyard garden. Quality furnishings and amenities. The garden is a quiet sanctuary and a very pleasant place to relax. The included continental breakfast was plentiful. The staff were pleasant and very helpful, giving tips about local attractions, etc.

Canal House is very nicely located in a beautiful, clean, and central area of Amsterdam. The rooms are charming and the layout - with an open plan, making the bathroom part of the room - is most special. The continential breakfast was very good, with freshly baked goods. Hot beverages and warm food could be seperately ordered from the menu - at an extra charge.

Canal House being an Amsterdam Canal House, the rooms are not necessary the largest and the stairwell is truly narrow. This is not a place to be recommended if one is not good at climbing stairs.
