Magnolia Cottage offers a great alternative to staying in central Christchurch. Great space with a lovely garden and views. While we only enjoyed a quick stopover, it would be a fantastic longer stay for those wanting a little bit of 'time out' in a quiet setting - but close to good amenities (Diamond Harbour has a very convenient passenger ferry over to Lyttleton for when more excitement is needed). We were greeted by Julie with fresh, homemade biscuits, chocolates and a lovely private lounge to unwind in. Breakfast was excellent and an added bonus were Possum (dog) and BobCat.

The hosts were wonderfully welcoming and friendly and it was a privilege to stay at Magnolia Cottage and be so well looked after. The breakfast was delicious, beautifully served and fabulously presented. The rooms were beautifully decorated, had everything we could possibly need and every detail was carefully and thoughtfully considered - cold water in the fridge, tea/coffee (plunger), great selection of DVD’s, books, magazines, outdoor seating and bathroom products. Lovely garden. Detailed advice was provided by the hostess about eating places in Diamond Harbour.

Julie and Barry are exceptional hosts. We were very comfortable They had thought of every thing. Our breakfast was delicious, with muesli, yoghurt, orange juice with toast and boiled eggs. I am not a dog person but my husband thought Rico was great. We would love to go back when we have more time, maybe in the summer.

It was a bit further out than we anticipated. We were under the pump to get to a very early train so not the right place to go on a tight schedule. A door or wall between the cottage and the main house would be good for more privacy. On the whole very nice though

Bedroom was to a high standard from the excellent eye for detail with the fit out/furniture/bed &!bed comfort. Great DVD’s for young & old. Lovely chatting to Barry & Julie & Julie’s b’fast was 5 ⭐️

Not booking another day to take the Ferry to Lyttelton - the lovely stroll through the village & from Magnolia Cottage. 🌷

Judy and I have just returned from a 40day road trip. This accommodation facility was nice, bright and with great views. At book in time the receptionist was very pleasant and welcoming. The locality was ideal and very handy to shops, parks, cafes and bars. There were ample supplies of brochures available for local activities and tourist trips. Oh yes provided with a lovely breakfast in the garden.

I had the worst weather ever during my stay but that just made me enjoy the accommodation more. Julie is an absolute sweetheart and I'm definitely coming back to do the hike I've actually had planned as the location is just perfect, just about 10 minutes by foot to the wharf. And the breakfast is so good it got me through the whole day :)

Excellent care was taken by July. she is an amazing host. Must recommend to everyone. She picked farm fresh cherries from her beautiful garden for our daily breakfast. My daughter has a good time playing with the dog there!

The walking on the storey above where I was, was the only thing...couldnt be helped bit it's quite loud.

Well it all comes down to how good the hosts are, and they were exceptional! The private downstairs accommodation was exactly what we wanted, and of course Rico the always getting into mischief dog was such a fun dog, just lock up your food! As on our visit he decided soldering flux that was meat based looked very tasty! And Rico decided to eat that and get a trip to the vet, luckily no damage done. My daughter just loved Rico and was very sad to say goodbye to him. Have to say this place was fantastic value for money including a full breakfast! The hosts love adventure and have many great stories to tell on their international travels as well as thier love on helping wild animals, conservation and the sea and in my opinion should do yacht day and possibly night trips on their 40 foot sailing yacht, my family and I would be in for that :-). So if anyone is reading this I guarantee you will love your stay here.

Nothing really unless you do not like walking up hill. For us it was no problem, and fun to run down with our 9 year old daughter.

Beautiful accommodation, comfy bed, lovely friendly host, cute dog and huge yummy breakfast in the garden

whilst it didn’t bother us much the only thing is that you can hear people moving around upstairs
