Breakfasts were good size but expensive - it seems everyplace in bigger cities in NZ charge more because they think they can. They employ foreign nationals and chances are they are paid minimum wage so why the excessive price?

Was at a reunion and we would have liked the bar to be open after 2200. being in a now residential area there may have been a noise caveat on the use of the bar but there are rooms away from the street front. A bit of adaptability by staff / management would have been great. But no NZ staff there to speak to.

The staff at the hotel are very friendly and exceptionally responsive to the guest needs. I had a minor request with the room that was immediately sorted out with no problem. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom is well appointed with heated flooring. Everything looks new apart from the obvious features of the old Officers Mess that give the place character. Some issues with the food quality and consistency in the cafe/restaurant initially. They were going through a change of cooking staff during my stay so either the current chef didn't care/wasn't up to scratch, or they knew it was a problem and sorted it out with the change. They took note of the issues and fixed them so it was obvious that the management cared about the details and looked for improvement. By the end of my stay the food had improved and a new menu was in transition. I can't recommend the hotel enough. Management and front of house staff are top notch. I will be staying there again next time I am in Christchurch for sure.

It was quiet, maybe too quiet / didn’t see another guest. Comfortable bed and lovely room.

The reception area was lacking in warmth and personality. Gloomy decor throughout the whole place, but I guess in keeping with the old airforce building. Wasn’t shown the short way to my room so ended up outside the building. Didn’t realise I had to pull my case up two flights of 9 steps because of no elevator!! I’m a fairly fit 75 year old but would’ve appreciated being warned!

Lovely decoration, comfortable bed, friendly staff, lovely food

The selection of breakfast included hadn't come through from booking.com. This was corrected once I had downloaded the booking.com app rather than the website to be able to prove this selection. Long wait for both dinner and breakfast meals, but both were delicious once arrived. Our room obviously had pipework for upstairs toilet in the wall, very loud every time someone up there went to the loo!

Hotel Wigram reeks history as the No. One Officers Mess of the Royal New Zealand Air Force from 1939 to 1995. While it has been renovated it retains the decorum of an Officers Mess. The rooms, central dining area and meals were excellent as was the attention of staff during the two days of our stay. The decorum will be understood by ex-services personnel but, for those unfamiliar, the service levels meet or exceed the very best of hotels.

Historic building and location. Food was very good.

My departure was not so good. It just takes one person to wreck an otherwise very pleasant stay. After finishing check out at 1002, I was told the kitchen closed at 1000 I ordered a coffee and then Doordash for some breakfast. When it arrived, I was told I couldn't eat in the now closed restaurant. I left eating my breakfast sandwich on my way out in the taxi.

We didn't have breakfast but had dinner at night in the hotel. The heater was on in the bedroom so it was lovely to go into a warm room. The under floor heating in the bathroom was a lovely surprise.

When we returned back to our room after being away all day, we couldn't get into our room. 9.30pm at night. There is no ph number to ring for anyone to help. After half an hour trying to find help, we found a phone number outside on a window incase of emergency. We rang the number and someone came 25 minutes later to let us into our room. We got into the hotel ok using the swipe card but not our room.

Dinner was nice. Unfortunately breakfast was too late for me. I started work at 7am. Rooms were surprisingly comfortable. TV channel choice was poor. Would recommend and would definitely stay again. Friendly staff. Quiet comfortable surroundings.

More choice on tv channels would have been nice. Room was a little smaller than I would have liked, but it was warm, clean and comfortable. Apart from that, no complaints at all.

Lovely hotel. The way the Art Deco style has been preserved is great. The room was modern, spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a great meal and beer in the bar restaurant. An ideal location if you have a car and don't want to drive into the city centre to stay- there's a bus that only takes 30 minutes to get to Cathedral square. The RAF museum is right around the corner too.

Couldn't fault. It

Excellent location. Good shops and restaurants nearby. Room very clean. Plenty of parking. Renovation and decor was very good, preserving the glory of the original building with up to date bathroom. Cosy even in very cold weather. Breakfasts also very good.

Our bed had quite a sag in the middle, which we could manage, but it could be an issue for a couple with different sizes and weights.
