The building itself is great - I loved all the period features and quirky decor. Wonderful location, just minutes from the centre of town, the train station, the Intercity bus stop, and a large supermarket. The room felt very spacious and bright. The outside areas were lovely too, with a large garden and a wrap-around verandah. There were washing machines available for 4 dollars (coins only).
WiFi worked well in the common areas, but didn't seem to reach to my bed. There were no lockers in the room.

Overall was an amazing experience would highly recommend to future occupants looking at coming to stay here. The owners were lovely and made you feel welcome and comfortable expecially on Xmas they made me feel apart of their whanau. The bathrooms were always cleaned to perfection. The rooms were spacious and kitchen was greatly organised. The piano and guitars for use were an upgrade and just set the ambiance of the whole place. And to top it all off the views from the balcony overlooking the ocean in the distance and the view of surrounding mountains. Loved and enjoyed it so much decided to stay an extra week.

Linda and Harry are really lovely hosts, it was a feeling like family to stay at Noah's Ark :) also the people who volunteered during my stay are lovely - please send greetings to M,K,J,W when u read this :) to Jessie the cat and Cosmo the dog please, too! The place offered a huge backyard, kitchen, laundry, plenty of bathrooms and showers and a nice mix of travelers from all around the world :) The location is great, near to Kings walk, the city centre and rail station including grocery store. I'll definitely come back when I'm in Greymouth again. Love, Ginger x
To leave this place ;o) miss u guys :)

This is probably not relevant to travellers but I loved the novelty of the themed rooms and the meticulous detail going into the decor and furnishings of each room to reflect the theme. I had the Leopard room, and everything from the door stopper to the wall runner to the blankets and curtains were leopards or leopard spots 🐆 the animal murals in each room are beautiful. It’s walking distance from the grey river, Greymouth railway station, supermarket, and several eateries. It was quiet other than the relentless chirping of cicadas (or some other insect I don’t know). You can see the sunset from the balcony on the upper floor. The toilets were fairly clean. Tip: for couples or singles, ask for the Giraffe room - I think it’s the best one with the most windows and light upstairs.
The toilets and showers were small and a little cramped. There were 3 toilets and 2 showers for the whole floor. I didn’t encounter a queue when I was there for one night, which was great. The power socket was far from the queen bed. There was no map given for the area at check in, unlike most hostels along the West Coast.

One of my favorite hostels I've ever been to! It feels like time is standing still there and you can just relax and enjoy life peacefully. I ended up extending my stay just to enjoy the place a little longer. I'm really glad to have found this little gem. Some more pros: - very clean - has everything you need in the kitchen - cosy living room with a piano and guitars, always someone playing music - cosy TV room - plenty of space to sit outside - bedrooms are spacious, beds are comfortable - everything is decorated with so much love and detail. It feels like a home rather than a hostel - nicest staff and open-hearted owners who are happy to help you out with any problems
Nothing negative to say about this place

Our last hostel of six weeks around New Zealand turned out to be the best. This hostel is located in such a beautiful and historic building, extremely clean, safe and quiet. Staff were so welcoming and we had a wonderful night’s sleep in the Elephant Room downstairs. The shared spaces are large, bright and comfortable also. Thank you for a lovely stay.

This place has a lovely vibe, hosts are lovely and as it's a smaller property you're more likely to meet people in the kitchen or lounge and chat (as we did). Love the animal themed rooms. Great for a night for two (we stayed to take the train to Christchurch)
Older property so slightly run down but that added to the charm

Very friendly atmosphere. Good to chat with other travellers as it’s not always the way. Good location and nice that they provide a discount for a local brewery. Nice spacious room and plenty of bathroom facilities.
We did have quite a lot of hair in and around the room, including the sink! There was also quite a few cobwebs around. The taps did not work in the room either which wasn’t much of an inconvenience but would have been good given we had a sink.

The incredibly endearing way in which the house is designed is stunning. The "staff", who could rather be described as a huge tenant family, is helpful, kind and just great. The kitchen has a huge amount of equipment and the garden is nicely designed and has enough space. There are enough bathrooms so no one has to wait long. The house dog is such a cuddly one that we would have loved to have packed him along. This house is highly recommended 👍👍👍
