Warm welcome from Elisabeth and Selwyn to this superb location. Our room looked across beautiful gardens and out to sea . Invited to "sundowners" drinks and canapes on the rear deck we enjoyed chat with fellow guests and our hosts. Our delicious dinner was served on the deck outside our room as the sun set. Large well appointed room with both ensuite and sizable wardrobe and suitcase space. Breakfast was taken indoors as it was chilly on the deck. Delicious, mostly homemade cereals, bread and preserves followed by a sophisticated choice of freshly prepared hot food. We accepted a complimentary ride/adventure across the creek and along the beach in their amphibious Argo vehicle in Selwyn's expert hands with fascinating commentary.
We regret not staying for at least two nights

Amazing location with so many personal touches! Elizabeth greeted me by name when we drove up and then gave us a tour of the whole facility. They serve home-cooked dinner if you order in advance and it was delicious. Breakfast was also excellent. Much of the food is grown and made by them. Beautiful location right overlooking the beach. It was a bit of a walk to get down to the sand due to a canal that cuts across the property but it is still doable. To top it all off, Selwyn gave us a ride in his amphibious vehicle, which floated through the canal and then went right back up the sand. We had an amazing time.
No complaints at all!

The location was beautiful on the Tasman Sea. The room was large and comfy. Elizabeth is a wonderful chef and dinner is available if you choose. Elizabeth and Selwyn provide a complimentary drink and nibbles for happy hour. Selwyn can take you to the beach for sunset in his all terrain vehicle. The included breakfast was fabulous with fresh eggs from their hens. Elizabeth makes many items herself. Wonderful experience!
There are 2 rooms on the Tasman Sea side of the property. Unfortunately, we had a road side room which was noisy with traffic sounds. Make sure you book the seaside room.

Beautiful location. Exceptional service provided by the owners, Elizabeth and Selwyn who were attentive, but not intrusive. They have thought of everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. The food was home cooked from scratch and very tasty. We would definitely recommend a 2 night stay as there is plenty to do en route and in the area. Awatuna Lodge shouldn’t be missed. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Elisabeth and Selwyn are sharing their home with their guests. It’s not a hotel or just an accommodation it’s feels like being at home of a good friend! They offered a snack and a drink for sundowner and joined us for a talk. They served us excellent dinner. The best fish and chips we had so far! And Selwyn took us on a ride with his amphibious craft to the beach in order to enjoy the sunset. It was sooo much fun! And we never expected such a beautiful place. One of the most untouched, wild, loving and impressing places in NZ. Thanks to Elisabeth and Selwyn it was an unforgettable stay! Unfortunately we had to leave after one night. If you can stay at least for 2 nights!

The platonic ideal of an family-run B&B, with outstanding access to nature and truly gourmet dining for breakfast and dinner. Our group of five adults loved our stay. Many reviews mention the owner's cooking talents, but we were still surprised by just how great a chef she is. We felt our meals were the best we had in New Zealand no matter what we ordered (the fish and chips, lamb and lasagna were my personal favorites). Every sauce is homemade, every jam is homemade, the butter is made down the street, the salami as well...hyperlocal without any pretension. The beach is wild and exciting with endless exploration possible. The hot tub is modern and hot. The owners are extremely friendly and hospitable...and impressive! All of this with poor weather during our stay. You should definitely stay here.
The lounge and dining area is intimate so be prepared to chat with other guests prior to the meals starting (during the included happy hour). To be clear, we did like this, but shy folks may not. You will enjoy your stay here for sure.

We had a very warm welcome from Elizabeth followed by a wonderful home cooked meal (ordered in advance from a varied menu). At 6pm they offer complimentary drinks and nibbles on the decking for guest which was very pleasant. The ride to the beach on their amphibious vehicle was great fun. The room was very comfortable with a gorgeous view over the garden to the sea. Sunset Lodge also lived up to its name with a wonderful sunset.

Elizabeth and Selwyn were wonderful hosts and made us feel very comfortable. We explored the garden and the beach in Selwyn's argo, which was great fun! We loved chatting to Elizabeth and Selwyn about our trip and their experiences while having happy hour. The food was simply incredible and so delicious. Elizabeth is a wonderful cook! Our view out our room was the beach and it was wonderful to watch the sun set over the water. It was amazing and we took some great photo's. I also loved looking at the sky and seeing so many stars. Highly recommend this stay.

The hosts were extremely welcoming. We loved the free guided tour of the property out to the beach on their amphibious vehicle. We also had a nice conversation with the host over the free canape with drinks before dinner. We enjoyed venison, fish & chips and whitebait for dinner. We like the garden and ocean view from our room, soft towels, and a comfortable bed.

This was a stunning location with beautiful owners that gave us a real treat. We walked along the beach to see the beautiful sunset, throw some skimming stones as relax. Such a picturesque position. An the ride in the Argo along the beach was a fab surprise... loved every moment! Homemade food was delicious!
Everything was just perfect.
