Amazing breakfast…. Such a huge variety to select from… all very tasty

Arrived late in the day… booked o line in the car Upon arriving… receptionist said we are all full…. Took her several minutes to check her computer and see we Just booked Took her 20 minutes or more to get us checked in She was very confused and didn’t seem to understand Two women in one room… double beds And one Man in single room I think she was tired… due to wedding schedule next day Finally got her to give us keys Take payment and let us leave

Room and bathroom were HUGE....Real castle size! Comfortable bed and nice views from the tallest spot in town. We chose this stay, to be near Comporta beaches, and the 20 minutes ride back and forth were worthwhile. Good, clean room and breakfast included for a very fair price!

Weekend mornings were a bit chaotic for breakfast. Took quite a long time to get done with it. Perhaps more staff for the extra guests on holidays would help. Monday was sooo much better!

Excellent location. The luggage trolley was broken (like much of this under invested hotel) but the staff couldn't have been more helpful going out of their way to help with a considerable luggage. We were in a heat wave and couldn't leave cases of wine in the car. Dinner was superb with the delightful Zak, the maitre d, recommending a pork dish with prawns. This was the nicest piece of pork I've ever experienced having been marinaded for some time and cooked in an exquisite sauce. The bed was comfortable and there was a nice wide bath. Excellent breakfast.

There was plenty of car parking but why not have a shaded area for vehicles? The car baked in the heatwave! The quadrangle was a nice area to sit but a, long overdue, coat of paint, some water in the water feature, some greenery and a few ornaments would transform this tired area into a very pleasant area. Come on Mr Pestana, it's time to plough some investment in here!

Hotel is located within what was once a mighty Muslim fortress, with huge historical aignificance for Portugal. Accommodations were fine, though somewhat dated (80s or 90s?). Friendly and capable staff, and good food and service.

The somewhat dated interior is understandable, considering how costly and demanding it is to adapt an ancient fortress to hotel use, let alone maintain it.

Amazing setting and ambiance, an ancient convent inside a castle on top of the hill, beautiful views across the Rio Sado and the ricefields. The hotel is tastefully decorated, evocative of its medieval history and features several inviting nooks to relax with a book or enjoy a drink. Great quality buffet breakfast. Pool not in use.

It’s a unique opportunity to spend the night in a real castle—along with the plusses of spacious room, comfortable bed, nice bathroom with tub, comfy sitting area, and quiet at night. The breakfast was wonderful and generous. Service was efficient and friendly. 10 minute walk down into town for good restaurants and beautiful river view. The views from the castle are great—whether from your room or the outside ramparts or even the parking lot. (Very easy, free, and convenient parking available.) Highly recommend and we would love to return some day.

Ambiance of the hotel built within the castle, using some of the original castle walls. The staff on site was exemplary. The beds were great. Loved the fireplace fire at night, with a cold drink. Das gut.

The hike back up the hill after we went to eat for din din. Should have driven. The chairs in the room were a bit used.

The room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and spacious. The beds were very comfortable and the bed linens were the luxurious. The whole castle is a museum and you can wander freely. They did an amazing restoration job. Don't forget to visit the cript!

The one little tiny con was we slept in 3 different bed (2 adults one child). The main one was two single beds adjoined together but made as two beds and not one marital bed. But we survived for one night. The restaurant was ok. The staff was very nice but the menu is limited and pretty expensive. The breakfast was very good.

Location amazing, excepcional views, the restoration of the building and integration of the necessary facilities for the use as hotel of the former castle and convent were beautifully done, achieving comfort and quality for guests. Staff very friendly and competent, 5* Delicious breakfast, with lots of options, even including local gastronomy. Pousadas de Portugal is still a synonym of quality.

Beautiful, historical building which has been thoughtfully repurposed as a hotel. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. The bedroom was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were very good.

The bathroom was a little cramped and dated and needed some repairs.
