Good rooms, place is central and than so quiet. Warm swimmingpool big + ! Good breakfest and staff very professional and friendly. Very good kingsize beds !

Rooms doors need make so that when y close not be noice , night when y sleep and neighbour room close doors y wake up :(

We loved the way we had ability to choose where to sit for breakfast. The entertainment in the bar was great in the evenings. The location can't be beat. We loved being able to see cats from our terrace, although a grounds keeper had a hawk, and the next day we didn't see any cats. That was sad. The pool was incredible. The breakfast buffet was great with a lot of choices.

The shower for the pool was cold water only, would have been nice if it could have been even room temperature. It was shocking after a swim. The heater in our room was subpar, we were very cold and could not get the heat to go on. We did get extra blankets, so it was ok. The only issue with the breakfast buffet was the juice was very watery, and the coffee was weak, we drank tea the remaining days. Our room was equipped with burner to heat up tea, but the tea pot didn't whistle, so I forgot I was making tea. Should use whistling tea pots, they are safer. The burner controls were hot, so it was hard to turn them off.

As at all the PortoBay hotels I have stayed in on both sides of the Atlantic, the amenities were first-rate. The bed was great and the sheets of great quality. The room was spacious and had a nice balcony overlooking a park. It´s also an added perk to join the PortoBay "Prestige Club" in that you get 10% off on anything you consume while at the hotel. I will continue to seek out PortoBay wherever I travel.

For dinner on site, I thought there was only a choice between a fulsome buffet and a truly basic bar menu. I guess most of the guests would go out to dinner anyway (as the hotel is right in old town). I finally realized that there was yet another menu in the main dining room (with the buffet) where one could order à-la-carte. Maybe advertising that fact more fully would be a good idea--but all may have been my own lack of focus when I arrived.

Excellent location - unlike many other resort-style hotels in the area, you are right next to the downtown area. Very comfortable rooms with a great atmosphere - paying for a sea view is worth it. Friendly and helpful staff. Had drinks at the bar once, it was nice. Ample facilities, it never felt like there was not enough space for everybody at any pool or hot tub location, bar, parking garage, etc. Do not understand the other complaints about lack of soundproofing: Could never hear anything in other rooms and very little outside with the door closed, and the AC was quiet to us too. Booked a massage and loved it. Catered to an older crowd, but as someone not into nightlife anymore, I actually liked that. Also like the adults only feature.

Breakfast buffet was mediocre and in particular the weak drip coffee is not good. Feels like it caters to their primary clientele of elderly British people with no palate. Does lack a modern feel as others said, but I didn't really mind that.

The location in the old town was ideal for us. Convenient for restaurants, bars, shops and local transport. Lovely room with great sea views, good choice at breakfast - something for everyone- helpful and responsive staff, great pools. We didn't use the cooking facilities but kettle and fridge were a godsend. Everywhere was spotless. The complimentary bottle of wine in our room on my birthday was an unexpected bonus.

Minor issues at check-in, the room wasn't ready and the door key didn't work, but all quickly sorted. The floor on the balcony was VERY slippy when wet.

The level of cleanliness was absolutely exceptional. The staff in all departments could not be more friendly and professional. The whole hotel really caters for true relaxation and comfort from the comfy beds to the huge heated indoor pool to the roof top hot tub overlooking the port, the perfect location to watch the cruise liners come in and out and watch the sun go down. This was also topped off with the most incredible spa treatment

It would have been nice to have a greater variety of cocktails at happy hour, a very very minor complaint! Overall we loved our stay

Amazing location right by the sea with a short walk to the city centre (and not far from the aerobus stop) The room was clean and spacious and enjoyed the small balcony with drying rack for swimming costumes/ towels after returning from the pool Great quality and selection at breakfast!

I would have liked to have more Portuguese food on offer so we didn't eat in every night Would have preferred more English language TV channels The double bed was two single beds pushed together (which seemed to be standard)

we have travelled around Europe widely over the last few years and rate this hotel very highly indeed. The rooms are large with comfortable beds and also sea views superb. Breakfast has impressive variety. The staff cannot do enough to help. The hotel offers different themed meals every day of the week. The location is unbeatable in Funchal being in the heart of the old town and very close to all the main attractions

It is hard to find any negatives at all. We will be booking again, something we have never done at all the places we have visited for many years

Great breakfast, lovely swimming pools - nice and quiet. Lovely decor. Friendly staff. Room was great too. Good view. Nice and dark at night. We also used the spa and had a massage which was great! Would highly recommend that as well as the hotel overall

It was a tiny bit noisy from a nearby bar on the Saturday night only and you can hear if other guests are closing doors but it wasn’t too bad and fairly quiet after midnight or so. We are very light sleepers so for others may not be a problem

Food excellent with good variety of dishes. Barbecue was lovely and eaten outside. Breakfast good choice. Great being close to cable cars. I loved the kitchenette with fridge in the room. Room cleaned every day. The hand lotion, body wash etc provided in the bathroom was beautiful. Would definitely stay here again if I visited the island.
