The El Rei Dom Manuel Hotel will stand out in my memory for many years to come. Sometimes photos can not do justice in conveying the feeling of a place. I feel that's the case with this hotel. Our room was better than anticipated, with double doors and a balcony overlooking the town and castle, and another large door overlooking the vast, beautiful surrounding countryside. The charm is in the old world, traditional furnishing style of the hotel, and friendliness of the staff. The room is cozy, with soft lighting, which in this surrounding, I found to be perfect. The bedding was very comfortable, and the welcome port in the room was much appreciated upon arrival, after driving in the rain for hours. The owner was kind, helpful, and clearly takes pride in the hotel. The El Rei Dom Manuel is immaculately clean! Dinner in the restaurant was wonderful, with attentive service. Breakfast suited our needs perfectly, and served delicious crepes, which we had not been offered anywhere else that we stayed. The location is perfect, with parking available, a short walk around town, and a visit to the castle. Thank you for a lovely and memorable stay.

Amazing location, located within the historic fortress-city of Marvão and yet easy to reach by car (it is located on the first square immediately after entering the city gates, with ample parking, so you don't have to navigate the narrow winding streets). The room has a beautiful panorama over the valley (looking northeast, across the Spanish border), as well as a stunning view of the castle from the balcony (looking northwest). The staff is very kind and attentive; even though it was very quiet at the hotel (it seemed I was the only guest), they still served me an extensive breakfast.

The balcony does not protrude from the building but is set inside the sloping roof, so if you sit down your view is somewhat blocked by the low walls - for the best view you should remain standing (however, you can still see the castle while sitting down).

Hotel is situated on Largo Olivenca, just inside the walls, with adjacent free car parking. We requested and got a twin room with terrace on the 2nd floor that was very quiet. The terrace was an alcove in the roof of the hotel, away from most of the traffic noise, and provided a view of the village. Breakfast included all of the essentials and we enjoyed an excellent evening meal in the restaurant, delivered by a very professional waiter. The terra cotta tile floors throughout the hotel were immaculate. Our actual rating for this hotel is 9.5/10....

The hosts are very welcoming. The whole facility is spotless. The room was a nice size and the bed was very comfortable. Having the on site restaurant was a great help. There are not a lot of options in Marvão for dining, and it was very relaxing to have a delicious breakfast waiting in the morning and a wonderful dinner at night. I will be returning to Dom Manuel next time I am in the area.

It would be nice but not required if the on site restaurant had a vegetarian option for dinner.

Reception - staff always gave warm greeting Breakfast - lots of choice, well presented and good quality Evening meal - ate in the restaurant in the evening, again with lots of choice of good quality food and wine. Met someone outside looking for a recommendation for food, so suggested hotel. After meal, talked to them and they stated that they too enjoyed the meal and were grateful for my recommendation. Accommodation - comfortable bed and good bathroom facilities. Lovely view from window.

Lighting in the room. Limited and only a certain level of brightness could be obtained, sometimes making it difficult to find things, etc.

The location is "on top of the world" with truly spectacular views across the Alentejo farmland. I'd visited for coffee on a previous visit and thought I would give the hotel a try. I wasn't disappointed. Check in was very straight forward and I received a warm welcome. The recently renovated hotel was spotless and the room also. Very comfortable bed and the ensuite was both clean and attractive with very nice linen. Amazing views. Dinner was enjoyable sitting outside. Breakfast was a delight and served by a delightful waitress.

The veal was a bit fatty but, heh, this happens. Excellent vegetable soup and lovely homemade desert.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times when we have visited Marvao. Firstly there is free parking in the square directly outside the hotel. The hotel is a family business and the owner was on reception to greet us and do the check in. We had a room on the second floor with wonderful views over the valley. The beds are comfortable and plenty of lovely soft pillows. Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the lower ground floor. Plenty of choice and fresh scrambled eggs.

This is a beautiful hotel in the old town. Our room overlooked the valley - - we had a beautiful view. Check-in was easy. The hotel had a great breakfast with something for everyone. This hotel is definitely a classy place. I would recommend it to anyone. Its so nice to be in the middle of the old town. We were happy to have parking directly in front of the hotel. The narrow roads to get to the hotel are a bit intimidating, but worth the drive. You will enjoy your stay at the El-Rei Dom Manuel Hotel.

A divine hotel in the middle of the old town full of history. The rooms are spacious and decorated in a style that suits its old world charm. We enjoyed delicious meals in there dining room and the friendly attention from staff. The lovely couple who run the hotel went out of there way to help me when I became unwell and needed medical attention. Highly recommend.

Hotel in a wonderful position, views from the adjacent town walls are fabulous. The room was spacious and very comfortable. We chose a room without a view as we were only there for one night and as we had cycled there we'd been blessed with views all day. Bed and pillows were very comfortable, large powerful shower, toiletries provided. Good to have an extension lead with USB sockets. We ate in the hotel restaurant, the food was magnificent. Generous portions and good value for money. Breakfast too was excellent, plenty of choice. We were able to put our bikes in the adjacent garage overnight. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and would definitely be happy to return one day.
