Location great for walks. Lovely looking hotel, nicely decorated and warm feeling. Good that u can take the dog. Food was nice at night but I didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that.
The room was nice, however, all the added costs on top made it expensive for what you got. I paid £238 for a room for 2 nights. Just a standard room, nothing fancy. And it was small. No free spaces on the hotel car park so i had to park across the road, at £9 a day x 2 =£18. Added £30 extra on for the dog for 2 nights. Not a problem but ended up being very expensive for what it was... I was out for most of the day, walking & exploring the beautiful scenery. So £296 just for a bed for 2 nights sleep was expensive I thought. Walls were thin, could hear the people in the next room snoring at night!

Room was great, spacious even for three of us. Really clean. Great breakfast buffet
Lack of parking. Food was tasty but overpriced and portion sizes were rather tight - especially for the price. Breakfast on Sunday was an 0830 start which is a bit late if you want to be out and about walking

Fabulous place to stay! The location was amazing, the staff were all wonderful, the rooms were extremely comfortable (we had a family room). Our dog was very happy. We loved our stay, thank you for taking such good care of us!
We didn’t love the food but if I’m truly honest, we didn’t love it anywhere else either. I’ve read other reviews re: parking, we didn’t find it a problem. The impression is there are only 4 spaces which isn’t accurate. We only had to park over the road on our first night as we arrived quite late on a Saturday and really, it was a 2 minute walk so not an issue. The other 4 nights of our stay there was always room in the car park

Our room was huge, well furnished and comfortable with dual aspect which was a real treat as the views were beautiful. The bar and lounge area were also very comfortable warm and beautifully decorated.
Ensuite was very small, given how big the room was I don't understand why the tiny wee ensuite. Also, it was impossible to shower without soaking the floor as the shower screen was too small. There was no grab rails which I could have used with the wet floor. On arrival the member of staff at "reception" was rude, didn't even look up to greet us, didn't offer any sort of welcome. When I asked for directions he didn't even reply, he just pointed.

We chose this due to the fact it is a dog friendly establishment and found that this was further enhanced by the breakfast selection and the food quality which was excellent throughout the day. our en suit bedroom was both classy and comfortable. As for the location I think it would be difficult to find a better setting in regard to scenery and its location in regard to visiting all of the lake district landmarks with ease.
The only issue was the lack of free on site parking space for residents given the size of the building and although we were there at an off peak time the car park was always full so I would imagine it will be horrendous during the peak season. I overheard a conversation in a shop where residents of the town were talking about how traffic wardens target the town knowing parking is an issue and the fact they can make a fortune in fines with easy pickings from tourists

Really enjoyed our stay on a very busy post Christmas Day weekend. The atmosphere was great, very festive and beautifully decorated, and the staff were amazing - friendly, polite, helpful. Food was delicious with generous portions - and the team went of their way to accommodate dietary needs. Rooms are comfortable, warm and clean - just what you need after a wet winter hike! Because of course, it is a great location with plenty of walks straight from hotel to suit all levels. We will definitely be returning - thank you Really enjoyed our stay on a very busy post Christmas Day weekend. The staff deserve praise. Any problems were addressed immediately and in a friendly way. We appreciate the efforts Daniel and Kayleigh (and a couple of other staff members who's names we didn't take) made to make our stay more special (Thanks for the birthday mocktail Kayleigh :-)). We loved the view from our room and the noise of the stream outside was relaxing. Cooked breakfast was good with cooled juices and cereal dispensers etc. Evening meals at the Ullswater were a spot above average; good chips, very good chef's tartare sauce and excellent English Lakes ice cream. Décor in the bar area was attractive. The location was excellent, so probably will be crowded in the summer, but perfect in October.
There was a problem with a noisy leaking gutter and an alarm, but both were addressed by moving us to a better room. After booking we were told that parking might be limited on a first come first served basis, which added a little bit of stress, but within our stay there were always one or two spaces free. (Otherwise parking would be across the road in public parking for £8.50 a day.) Like most old hotels sound proofing wasn't great.

Area and scenery beautiful, lovely views from window. Pub is lovely, warm and welcoming, lovely at christmas time. Beds are very comfortable, rooms are big and shower is decent, always nice to have tea and coffee in the room too. Breakfast is decent enough for price of room. Place is nice and secure too especially of an evening.
Rooms were very hot, even with radiators off, windows only open a little too so not much air. Bit annoying having to pay for car parking down the road, did manage to get hotel space the 2nd night. Quite expensive in pub for drinks.

Comfortable beds and a large room. Spotlessly clean. Food very nice - dinner was great and a good selection for breakfast - buffet style. Staff pleasant.
Felt a bit impersonal... staff are efficient but don't take time to really connect with guests. We felt a bit like we were on a conveyor belt... next batch of tourists through the door. Because the dining room is also the bar it is very noisy and busy (difficult for my aging folks). I thought the music choices were a bit odd (90s rap and pop) and too loud. There are a lot of stairs to get to rooms and the whole layout is a bit confusing..up and down all over the place. Would have requested a room nearer the dining room for my parents had we known.

The food was well prepared and all our choices were of a high standard when presented. Breakfast was spot on, and the porridge made to order was first class. Our rooms were really well equipped and the bathrooms were of a good size. I don't think the location could be bettered, everything within a stone's throw. Chris and his colleagues work really hard to make sure their guests enjoy their stay.
The parking is a bit tight, but the building has been there a long time and massive parking spaces weren't required when it was first built.
