Look no further than Hôtel la Fontaine for accomodation in Caen. This is the best hotel in the region and its warmth, friendliness and facilities are top notch. The hotelier Mathieu went above and beyond to make our stay in Caen truly memorable. Bespoke restaurant recommendations, delicious breakfast (not to be missed!), comfortable and modernly furnished rooms and mere seconds from the city’s shops, William the Conqueror’s chateau and mind-blowing churches and monuments. My partner and I simply cannot wait to return and if we didn’t live so far away we would be back in a heartbeat! Thank you so much for our stay and for taking us on a private tour of the landing sites of Normandy as well as sharing with us local knowledge of this wonderful region. We will be back!

The owner was great. Upgraded us (not at our request) at no extra charge as he had a larger room available. Very friendly. He even helped carry our bags to our room which was very kind of him. Breakfast was simple but excellent. Hotel was incredibly quiet overnight despite it's central city location. Public parking v convenient. Everything was just great. Perfect location for a short city break.

This was a fantastic stay in a great location, where everything is walkable! The rooms were nice and simply, exactly as pictured, but had everything you needed. The staff was friendly and helpful! We opted for the breakfast and it was a nice spread!

When we booked the hotel, we thought that parking was included, however we found out that a parking garage is very close, but not included with your stay, so we had to pay for parking. Not sure if that was not clearly identified on booking or the hotel?

Extremely well-located. It is in the centre of Caen and allows for an easy exploration of the city while allowing for downtime. The breakfast is of a good standard and the staff were extremely helpful.

While I am aware that a lack of cooling options is a standard in European cities, a fan of some sort would've made the stay even more pleasant. This is important when the country is going through a heat wave.

Mathieu was a wonderful host, friendly and accommodating. Knowledgeable and helpful. Good restaurant recommendations. We were on a cycle tour and the storage was excellent. A great city center location but also a quiet area. Good breakfast too. Chic modern decor. A good, and big, bed A real joy all round.

Everything was good-maybe an extra hook or towel rail would have made it even better.

Location was great for walking the town, bathroom good and reasonable sized room. Good breakfast and drinks available all day.

Access by car via a restricted pedestrianised area, there is public underground car parking, which was full when we arrived but available on our second drive round.

The room was at the rear of the hotel and was very quiet for sleeping. Bed was comfortable. Mathieu was very helpful with our onward plans for the weekend. The breakfast was good, and although there are no drink-making facilities in the room, the small breakfast room is available to make tea, coffee or other drinks until 10pm. Overall we were very pleased with our stay at the hotel.

A welcoming hotel in the centre of Caen with secure covered storage for bicycles. The owner was friendly and most helpful providing useful information on what to visit and and where to eat in Caen. The buffet breakfast was good with a wide selection of food on offer. The hotel is an excellent choice for an extended stopover or weekend in Caen.

There was nothing we did not like.

Warm welcome from Mathieu, who kindly helped us up the stairs with our luggage. Room small but clean and quiet. Comfortable bed, good bed linen. Bathroom was well designed, super shower - great! Breakfast was excellent.

Nothing wrong. A lift would have been helpful for getting luggage up to the top floor, but we knew in advance there was no lift and were not deterred.

Sweet people. Delicious breakfast. I wish we'd had the breakfast everyday. Very clean. Great location.

It's a walk up so the stairs are tiresome. The proprietor helped carry our bags up, which was nice. Not a good view out the windows. Small room. Somewhat comfortable bed.
