Beautiful B & B, spotlessly clean with a wonderful view, excellent breakfast(you can choose from a menu), close proximity to shops, restaurants, banks,etc and good security. I mean every word but for me it was the wonderful, kind and caring staff. The ladies were exceptional and Yvonne listened to my needs and kept in touch to provide me with accommodation. I had travelled to Durban as my mum was in ICU, sadly she passed after a week and I was fortunate to have a haven to go to in such an awful circumstance. I would go back to every time if I was to return to Durban. Highly recommended. Thank you Yvonne and team.

Charming guesthouse, like an old colonial plantation house. Full of character and beautifully furnished. Exceptional view. Outstanding and welcoming staff. Came away with a really nice feeling. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Tea/coffee facilities in the rooms were limited, and breakfast coffee was limited to plunger coffee, but breakfast itself was delicious. It's not a complaint, rather just what I like.

I expected the bedroom with the view over Durban, coming from the UK and being a 'couple', I was very disappointed that we got the much smaller room with no view, where the room I thought we would have was occupied by a single person, and for only one night, whereas I had booked for 2 nights. So feel that we should have been given priority. We had to travel from Johannesburg and got stuck in the Pietermaritzburg traffic jam, and was late arriving, but I had phoned to let the establishment be aware of our plight. For that reason I have not given it 5 * rate ... But we were very well looked after. Still, the disappointment that we did not get the room I had expected, for the amount of money we paid is still a sore point with me.

Needs a bit of TLC. Lighting in bathroom hard to find. Concerned about the extension plug arrangements - three plugged into one socket?

Friendly staff, professional and amazing breakfast. They know you by name & treat you like family. Great location, close to malls and restaurants. Spacious rooms equipped with all the necessities. Safe & easy access to the property. We will definitely stay at Southey House again. Thank you Lizette & team for making us feel so very welcome.

We loved everything

Loved the interior and mostly loved the staff! Lungi and Precious were so sweet. I really felt like I was home. Will definitely be coming back when I’m in Dbn.

Amazing hosts and friendly staff. A beautiful property with spectacular views looking out from Kloof towards Durban and the ocean. Rooms are well appointed and tastefully decorated, each with a unique flair. Elegant and tasteful common areas with a massive veranda and swimming pool. Quiet and secure.

situated very close to Thomas More. Great views, but best of all is the hospitality. The ladies make you feel so welcome and nothing is to much effort. They don't just go the extra mile, they will go to the moon and back. The beds are fantastic , rooms are large. breakfast fit for a king.

I was woken at 3.30am with someone speaking very loudly on the phone from what sounded like the pool area

I like the fact that it was quite, no pets and clean

I wish it had a bath. it was hard to plug in more than one electrical item (eg phone and laptop).
