Parador de Cardona

The location is as spectacular as you hope it will be although it's the views OF the castle rather than from it that are amazing. Having said that, it's really interesting to see the unique salt mountain right next door. Make sure you go to the village of La Coromina to get the dramatic side view. Our twin room overlooking the cloister was great. The beds were very comfy (on the harder side perhaps for some?) and the Aircon kept the room at just the right temperature and wasn't noisy. It was roomy and had a good bathroom. The inside of the castle was really fabulous and it was a privilege to stay there. Take a torch to walk into the village (well worth it).

We had some bar food which was just okay, although the bar itself is a great place to have a drink and it's nice to have a cheaper option than the restaurant.

Bar and Restaurant were great and convenient! The property is fantastic and staff was very friendly and helpful. The views from the castle onto the town of Cardona and the valley are superb. Highly recommend this experience!

No all rooms have a view - some rooms have only a tiny window at the top of a tall ceiling and you can't see outside at all. That's the room we ended up getting even though we booked many months in advance. The pillows were super flat and uncomfortable but the bed was great. Also there seems to only be heating in the rooms, no AC.

Lovely rooms. Good food. Exceptional views. A relaxing place to stay a night or two.

One problem. If you arrive at Cardona by bus you will have to wait a very long time for a taxi or walk the rest of the way up the hill to the parador. We thought the bus would deliver us at the door. I suspect most drive there but I assume others may come by bus from Barcelona as we did. It would have been nice if someone from the parador had agreed to come down and pick us up. It's about a 5 minute drive but very steep to walk and pulling luggage would have been a big problem. We called to ask if someone could come down for us but the answer was no. A very kind woman at a tourist info place at the bottom of the mountain drove us up in her car. And if you need a taxi to take you back down to catch the bus make sure to call for it at least 3 hours ahead of time.

A picture is worth a thousand words and that is true here. This is a genuine CASTLE, with over 1m thick stone walls, towers and a maze of rooms. The reception will give you a MAP to find your room, and how to get anywhere, and you’ll need it. That said, the rooms are fully modern, comfortable and very clean. Our rooms, on the 6th floor, had a cafe/bar just 20 steps away, open till late and very comfortable for an evening sit. The outside is spectacular during the day, with a guard tower offering fabulous views. All in all a fantastic experience. The staff, as in all the paradors we visited, is simply fabulous, and the breakfast excellent.

It wasn’t a problem for us, but parking here is not straight forward. It is a castle so you will have to park a steep walk below the entrance level. It’s not that far but I saw it was an issue for elderly couples. The staff are very good at allowing you to drive up to drop things off, but the top level parking is limited to very few cars.

Fantastic historic property. A destination in itself ( tours came to visit the castle fortress around our accomodation ). Well restored and maintained. Rooms spacious and four poster beds luxurious. Able to explore the history at our leisure. Plenty of information available on the tumultuous past of the fortress. Local old town of interest at bottom of the hill that the castle was perched upon.

Had to catch a train and a long taxi ride. Best for guests with a car.

It is a Lovely Castle , 2 hours away from Barcelona. The rooms are clean and the view from the castle is superb. Try room number 712 - I've heard some interesting spooky stories about this one.

The walk from the Cardona town to the Castle can be tiring (best to have a car or book a taxi) , especially if you are walking around with stroller bags. The food can be expensive, but there are many cheap options in the town square. There is nothing much to do in Cardona except for the castle and visiting the salt mine.

Everything was excellent. Such wonderful helpful, smiling staff- nothing was too much trouble. Wonderful terrace for evening drinks. Lovely setting for dinner & breakfast. Wonderful selection & variety of food. We had the tuna, which was cooked to perfection. The chef is obviously very good. Very interesting castle and historical site.

The view from the room was very disappointing, of the dreadful strip mining, where the beautiful pine forest has been demolished. An environmental disaster, as no trees have been re-planted to grow in the now barren areas of complete devastation.

Dinner was excellent the service great and the dining room fabulous. Breakfast was not quite so good. But as it was very full it was excusable. The signage when you arrive is not great and it took us sometime to find out where to park.

I would have liked more information about the history of the castle, this could be perhaps in a brochure in our room. It looks over a salt mine which is not a great view but I beleive that the salt revenue enabled the castle to be built. An explanation of this would have been really interesting.

The location of the Hotel is simply stunning, particularly as you arrive and see it in the distance. The staff were all very helpful and motivated and the Hotel was spotlessly clean with strict application of anti-Covid measures.

This is not a "didn't like" but an observation as the parking arrangements were fine for us but there are limited opportunities to unload near reception and you end up having to climb a steep slope from the parking area. For anyone with heavy bags or mobility issues, this could be a problem. Making the area at the top a strict drop and go area could help.

The hotel is located in an actual real castle. This is really cool. The place itself and the decor gave the feeling you are back in meadival times. In a good way :) The bed was large and comfortable. Great views from every window. Good air conditioner.

The brakefast was dull. The vegtebles seen better days. Brakefast wasnt good VFM. The location is isolated. You need to take a car to get to anywhere else. There was rust all over the bathroom mirror. (Everything else was clean).
