Hotel El Castillo de Los Locos

I had just stayed in 21 hotels on my travels through Spain and France. I saved one of the best for last. The staff were lovely both front of House and in the cafeteria. The Hotel is a little quirky with an interesting staircase. The room was spacious and lovely with big windows looking over the sea. The bed was big and comfortable. The cafeteria was simply brilliant. Not a long menu but more than adequate and the food was delicious. The walkway was stunning and the locals enjoyed the venue which says a lot. Pricing was solid and deliberate and you feel that you got excellent value. I will most certainly be back to visit this Hotel. I am a hotelier and therefore tend to be critical and never overeffusive. This establishment is excellent

The Hotel has limited space and therefore parking was on the street. At the time of year we went there was plenty of availability. In high summer - I am not so sure. Being motorcyclists we were a little uncomfortable leaving our motorcycles on the road. his of course is not the Hotel's fault. I merely mention it so that other motorcyclists are aware - having said that the area feels very safe and I slept well..

The location is perfect, we had a room with a sea view and a floor to ceiling window. We could see the sea from the bed. The ceiling was a little low near the window so need to be aware of that. The food was excellent. A lot of people come here in the evening to watch the sunset. This was our third visit and is perfect to stay on the last night before the ferry back home.

Everything was good, only thing is the stairs, which are a narrow, (about 900mm) spiral staircase for all floors, there are no lifts. This may affect some people.

Breakfast was different from what I expected but very good. Location was excellent, with great views over the bay. Room was very comfortable and afforded good views on two sides

The weather was atrocious and because of location the wind was horrendous, coming off the sea, but hey, it’s January, certainly big surfing waves! Unfortunately my ferry was cancelled and thankfully was able to stay another night, however breakfast doesn’t start till eight and I was hoping to get an earlier one, but they don’t do it any earlier, it’s a minor point and probably due to staff start times.

Location is incredible. The view is perfection. Room was comfortable. Walking around the coastline was a highlight. Perfect for a picnic goers & photography enthusiasts

Note that you have to climb very narrow, vertical, spiral stairs to get to your room. Not an issue for me but could see this being an issue for some. Esp with luggage. Restaurant was just ok. Staff seemed distracted and annoyed with basic questions.

The views were incredible and just as pictured in the information on Booking.com. The location was beautiful and close to 2 beaches which are not too far to walk to. one is accessed by a steep set of steps. the other is a walk to town where a lot of the surfers are seen. The bar was welcoming and great selections of wines, spirits and cakes. There is a bar menu for burgers, tacos and a range of starters served till about 11pm. Breakfast is to order from the menu till around midday. cake and coffee at any time. Room 13 had a perfect view over the beach. this is accessed via a spiral staircase. there is no lift. so relaxing and peaceful. locals seem to pop in for coffee and cake and dogs are welcome.

not that we didn’t like it but consider the size of suitcase you have as the spiral staircase is not huge. it would also be challenging for someone who has difficulty walking up stairs.

Loved the View from the room. Really nice sized room. Comfortable beds and it was lovely to hear the ocean at all time. The room was just above the beach it was perfect location to pop down and up when ever we wanted. The staff was very nice and surprised how many of them spoke English. Great experience. Thanks for Alonso for looking after us at dinner. Great service.

The room ceiling was a bit low as we were on the second floor. Wish if we could choose a different room just for this reason. The staircase is a spiral stair so with large languages think twice what you want to bring to upstairs.

AMAZING LOCATION and INCREDIBLE VIEWS from the rooms! You can watch the surfers from your room as it overlooks the beach below the cliff. The place looks like an old castle with some modern updates. The room included breakfast, and the restaurant below is beautiful and the food was excellent—there are views from every angle as well as plenty of tables to eat outside as well if weather allows.

Nothing, really! The winding staircase is a little scary and no elevator means those with disabilities would not be able to stay here.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon here. So, everything I say about Hotel Castillio El Loco and surrounding area may be rose tinted just a little... It is fair to say we had one of the best weeks of our lives here with a sea view from our room that was simply breath taking! The staff were amazing friendly and efficient. The rooms were spotless and well attended. The terrace bar and restaurant are very popular with the locals which in itself is a great recommendation. Its a quirky fun relaxed place. Great for couples in our opinion.. You will over look a wonderful bay and beach on one side and Suances beaches and marina on the other. You are not far from Santander and there are lots of beautiful places to visit but, why bother...

Accessibility would be an issue for anyone with mobility difficulties. The bedrooms are accessed via a wonderful spiral stairs in one of the turrets. The old building does not lend itself to an escalator/lift. For some this might be a problem.

Located high above the beech with views across the bay and out to sea. Friendly staff. Big restaurant with terrace serving mainly burgers and Mexican. Staff worked very very hard, but managers please note, there were obviously not enough of them.

They say they are above the beach and have sea views. Absolutely correct, but they don’t say that you can’t see the beach. We had on of the four out of 11 rooms with a proper view. They don’t say that the two on the floor below ours have the best views and these are reserved by those in the know - no chance for those not. The sea view rooms had extensions built out to form a covered balcony which was part of the room. But the two on the top floor need you to crouch and duck a lot to get to the sitting area. Some maintenance is outstanding. I had to get up in the night when the wind was blowing to jam the door of an empty room that was making an extremely loud noise shaking in its frame. There is also access only via a spiral staircase which will be difficult for some.

This hotel is a small, castle looking building, overlooking a beach on both sides. Quaint place, rooms are fantastic, some overlook the sea with huge windows and spectacular sunsets, locals come here to see the sunsets. Food is very good, amazing cliff top walks very close by and beaches a short walk away, although along a steep pathway. We started our Spain trip here and loved it so much, we rebooked for the last night as well.

Steep path to the beach may not be to everyones liking, when there its quiet with just a handful of people there.
