Medplaya Hotel Pez Espada

The hotel has recently been updated to a good standard, the rooms are comfortable with decor and furniture. we had half board and thought the breakfast excellent but the evening meals require more variety of choice and presentation. There is plenty of sun beds outside on a nice grassed area, the beach is very close along with many restaurants on the promenade, swimming pool in excellent condition although a bit small for the size of hotel. rooms were serviced every day. staff were professional and provided a good service.

we stayed in a junior suite which allows you to sit in a separate area in restaurant, the chairs in this area are not comfortable but in the main restaurant chairs are much better ?, there is also a separate lounge area for club rooms, it’s supposed to cater for snacks and soft drinks/coffee, there are no staff in this lounge and in our opinion very disappointed the way its presented to clients. These are minor points and we enjoyed our holiday at this hotel.

Excellent hotel, highly professional service, nice food, both breakfast and dinner, variety of dishes to choose, super clean, comfortable beds, excellent shower.

Coffee is terrible no idea why they don’t change coffee machine in the restaurant.

We LOVED the decoration and decor throughout the hotel. It was so well thought out and every room / bar we went to was beautiful. All the furniture and umbrellas also were beautiful. It felt like a treat being there. We weren't expecting the hotel to be so beautiful, even the rooms were colourful and modern. The TV in the room had english channels and also netflix and youtube which was great when we were getting ready to go out. 2 single beds but they felt big and I found them really comfy. Bathroom was also a great size with a walk in shower which was powerful and changed temperature well, not like some that are either cold or boiling. Big mirror and fresh design. Wifi worked for us pretty well, Netflix cut out a few times we think at the busiest times where maybe more people were using the wifi but I used it on my phone no problem and downstairs in all the areas wifi was good. I asked for a quiet room with a view if possible and we were in a great room with a fantastic view of the pool and sea. It was on the 6th floor so was quiet, there are 2 lifts to get you down. I didn't hear anyone through the walls our entire stay, you could only hear people walking down the hall through the door but this wasnt bad. I think because this is one of the original hotels in benalmadena the walls are really thick. Aircon was also great, simple to use and kept our room cool all day and night, again because the walls I assume are thick the room stays cool even when the aircon was off when we were out. There was a safe to use for free in the room and a fridge which had some water in when we arrived. Cleaners were great! They did our beds everyday and changed the towels if we wanted everyday (you leave them in the shower tray if you want them changed other wise to save energy you can not have them cleaned everyday). Also we had a dressing gown and slippers on the bed on arrival which was a lovely touch.

Trying hard to think of something... the extraction fan in the bathroom might have not been working but it wasn't an issue with the aircon drying out the air maybe that should be looked at rm620. We loved our veiw so much we didn't want to maybe move to another room and it was fine with it not on. Hotel was excellent I'm sure if we had mentioned it someone would have come up.

Amazing location, superb breakfast. Rooms are spotless and spacious with comfortable beds. The pictures do not do the hotel justice, it completely exceeded all expectations. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay we will definitely be back!

We had an extremely comfortable room with a nice balcony overlooking the water. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was powerful. There was an excellent variety of food available at breakfast catering to all tastes. I particularly enjoyed the wide variety of fresh fruit and yogurt as well as all the different breads, meats, cheeses and salmon which were all available. If a guest wanted a "traditional British breakfast" that was catered for as well. Cris at reception was particularly efficient and helpful and all the staff we encountered were pleasant, efficient and helpful.

I found it difficult to get internet access on my laptop albeit I was able to do so on my phone. The member of staff at reception indicated that there seemed to be a problem with Apple laptops in relation to getting internet access at the hotel and despite several attempts I was unable to gain access which was disappointing. My wife was able to access the internet via her Apple phone as was I but the laptop proved to be redundant for our entire stay which was disappointing.

Hotel met all our expectations. We stayed in a room with a frontal sea view and it was well worth the extra money. The room was perfect with a balcony and brillant sea views. The room was big and spacious with a King size bed. The bathroom had a great walk in shower. Beds were made every day. All the staff that we had dealings with were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet was exceptional and I think must have covered all tastes. Omelets, fried eggs, pancakes were made to order. Pool area was lovely and clean with plenty of sunbeds. Pool was a great size. There is a separate pool area for children which also has a small playground.

We thought the hotel was just perfect.

The hotel looks nice, the food is delicious.

Dust in the corners of the bathroom, the shower is dirty (fungus between the tiles, ) hairdryer filter ful dust. The biggest problem is that VIPs sit in the same dining room and have special tables and window seats, but all the action takes place in the same space. It seems like discrimination against people and nothing more.

Excellent food choices, good decor and entertainment

Didn't like the fact that newspapers were only available in the premium lounge and that you had to pay more for a better view in the restaurant . It felt like there was a first class and second class guest

Location, general standards good. Nice pool & gym. Some staff were very pleasant, some looked like they couldn’t be bothered.

Room was way too small for 3. Fine as a double but very cramped for 3. I asked to be moved but they were full, which was a shame. The food truck availability was poor with certain items never possible to order. Not good to see miserable staff when you’re on holiday. Maybe some are in the wrong job!

The location and friendliness of staff. Breakfast selection was very good and everywhere was very clean. Best air conditioning we had had in a hotel for a long time. Decor is really nice and modern with a great retro feel, you will have great fun remembering the large photos of the film stars from the 50's and 60's Terrace bar is very nice and a has been redecorated since our last visit

Only problem we noticed was due to Covid the rear beach entrance gate was unlocked so people came in and used the pool facilities and the sun beds.
