Queen's Hotel

Very elegant. Lot of heritage and class. The best possible location to basically everything. Pool was nice, food was ok but the dining service was special. Felt like being a part of history and was also very convenient as a tourist. Price was very fair.

The building has not been very well taken care of. Old colonial buildings that are a little worn down can sometimes feel rustic, but here it has gone past that point here and the hotel feels tired and neglected by the current ownership. In a related note, administration was very poor. Check in and check out was abysmal. It's hard to believe, but check in took over 2 hours during which point our things were left in a pile unattended in the lobby. Check out took like 20 minutes eventhough it was all just to be charged to the credit card they had in file at the time of reservation.

The staff, service and historical building were just exceptional and beautiful. It is in an excellent location lake-side and next to the temple and the staff bent over backwards to help us, with unparalleled service. The rooms were very neat and tidy, and well air-conditioned. I also loved the historic lift in the building, such character!

Only small things, the aircon in my room had a broken louvre and blew straight down onto the bed where I was sleeping, the aircon remote didn’t work and the bed was a little hard (older style solid mattress). But other than that, it was beautiful.

The location cannot be beat! It was right in the city centre within walking distance of all of the sites we wanted to visit! Our stay came with a wonderful buffet breakfast and an egg/omelette station. The rooms are very spacious. There is a restaurant and bar for convenience and a large swimming pool to enjoy!

The service was wonderful in the bar and dinning area and lacked when concerned with front desk follow through. I had laundry done at the location and two items were missing. I asked the front desk several times and it wasn't until the day of check out that there was an active position taken to locate the items. Other than that, it was a nice stay with wonderful service.

We were transferred from Queens hotel to Suisse hotel .Awful musty smell in public area and in the room.

This is a hotel with important historical connections. The imposing white building of this hotel by the picturesque Kandy Lake is a reminder of what used to be a majestic hotel in the heart of the hill stations of Sri Lanka. It still retains its former glory but starts to show neglect due to severe financial pressures the hotel is operating under. With easy access to the most notable Buddhist shrine of the island, Temple of Tooth Relic, this hotel is a good resting place for travellers to Kandy looking for a religious pilgrimage. Likewise for most foreign tourists there is no better way to sample the atmosphere of the former capital city of Ceylon than to stay at this hotel. Despite its tired state, the hotel still retains the magic of colonial prestige it used to enjoy.

The hotel needs a significant improvements in most areas. The rooms are still functional but the facilities are due for a facelift.

The hotel is perfectly located opposite the lake and in kandy itself. Filled with old world charm and it is easy to see how the British would spend hours here for dinner or high tea or a drink at the bar or a dip in the pool. My room on level 3 was massive. 2 separate bedrooms. Be warned. This is an aging queen. Modernization has not been carried out. Still using the caged door lift. If you want modern this hotel is not for you. But if you want old world then this is it.

Not a thing

A colonial period hotel right by the lake, lovely details and furniture. The bar and landings and lift are something special. The staff are attentive especially the duty manager. It really feels like a step back in time.

The hot water was a bit slow but eventually came good, just felt like a waste of water. Things are a bit crumbly but that's half the charm. Wouldn't class it as a modern 4 star but it's a very lovely place to stay.

Such a beautiful hotel with great history... hard to maintain I think. Staff were lovely, room cleaning staff were exceptional. Location is amazing. We stayed poolside which was lovely and quiet.

As stated by many, the restaurant food is simply not up to the standard it needs to be. We had sliders without any patty.. lettuce, tomato and fake cheese... we were told this is normal! Our bathroom water got hot on very rare occasions.

honestly, I‘m not generally and always rating old style hotels with 10 points but the QUEENS HOTEL is a must when in KANDY if you‘re a lover of HERMANN HESSE‘s work. He stayed here in 1912 that is proven. I tried to figure out which room it was to be shown by the ‚Kammerherr‘ Mr Ratnayake the best top floor suite room at a very reasonable rate…

Beautiful colonial building, friendly staff, very clean and excellent central location by the temple and lake. Welcome drink provided on arrival and was able to pay by card. Really nice trees and flowers surrounding the pool, nice to cool off after a full day exploring

The pool area is a little bit tired, could use a couple more loungers and for leaves and flowers to be cleared from the pool. The bathroom in our room was also open at the top to the bedroom so not completely private
