Everything was great except breakfast. In small print on the menu it stated that breakfast was rationed to one particular type of breakfast, for example, you could have a continental breakfast alone or you could have a full English breakfast alone or you could have a vegetarian breakfast alone. You could not mix and match. This meant I could only have a full English breakfast but could not have any croissant, could not have any cerial, could not have any yogurt. Furthermore the Toast arrived after I had received my full breakfast, not with the pot of tea and there was no jam or marmalade offered with it just very hard butter from the fridge. Having said all that, the hotel was excellent, the bedroom was excellent and apart from breakfast, the whole experience was excellent. We will definitely go back there again despite the breakfast problem.

We chose this hotel as a stop-over on our journey. It is definitely a place we would come back to for a longer stay. It has a charm and ambience that we look forward to on vacations. We enjoyed the interesting history of the hotel as well as walking into the nearby town of Grindleford. There were many other walks close by. Our room was a little small, however the bed was comfortable and the shower hot. Our dinner and breakfast was tasty and served in a charming room with a beautiful view. The staff were friendly and helpful. As an added bonus, the hotel has a link with Australian cricket.

The only thing that would make the hotel any better, would be a lift to the upper floors.

We arrived at the Maynard in the afternoon, with plenty of parking available, we were then greeted by the friendly staff. The room was well furnished, clean and cosy. And the scenery around the Maynard was fantastic being just a stones throw away from some fantastic hikes, we did the Padley Gorge which we highly recommend. After returning from a muddy hike in the evening, the staff helped us with our muddy shoes. We had a lovely meal in the Maynard restaurant, the food was delicious although the portion sizes were on the smaller side (but it was 30% off so can’t complain too much!). We briefly looked around the bar area which appeared very cosy and welcoming. We the. had a good night sleep, without any disturbance as the hotel is situated in a lovely secluded area of the Peak District. We liked the modern glass lighting feature above the shower which changed colour on demand - a nice touch! The next morning, we had the breakfast included in the rate and again could not fault the food. The two young breakfast waitresses were also very helpful and accommodated us. Finally, the room cleaners were also friendly and greeted us as we checked out. We highly recommend a stay at the Maynard and we hope to be back in the future!

The room was on the smaller side and the mattress was quite hard. The bed was two twins put together to make a double, which wasn’t ideal. They were also running a 30% off on food and drink, however we weren’t made aware of this - we would have ordered more food!

Lovely old property and pleasant room. All of the staff were excellent, very professional, polite and attentive. A real credit to the establishment and management. The food was delicious, with a top notch cooked breakfast. Well located in the Park itself and very good value for money - especially compared with other local alternatives. Loved the decor throughout, would visit again as we really enjoyed our stay.

I felt the bathroom in our room (o’Reilly) could have a little more storage space (shelves perhaps?) particularly around the sink area, for guest toiletries. Our wardrobe was missing any hangers so we couldn’t hang clothes up. Otherwise all good!

This was my second stay at the Maynard and I loved it. Very close to various trails, the hotel itself is gorgeous, the rooms are comfortable and the staff wonderful. Vegan breakfast is lovely and there are at least 2 plant based options for dinner. That said, I see that some people are mentioning prices. I’d just like to say that it’s not a pub by any means, but a restaurant with restaurants prices, so bear that in mind. I, myself, was happy and will definitely return.

Not a comment on property, but had difficulty sleeping due to inconsiderate neighbours.

Great location. Lovely garden area. Good size bedroom with a comfortable bed. Good cooked breakfast with good quality ingredients.

Bedroom could do with shelves or chest of drawers in the walk-in wardrobe as there was nowhere to put clothes and there was only 4 coat hangers. Some maintenance required- lovely shower, but it leaked badly from the connector, coffee machine leaked if water was left in it and toilet was difficult to flush. Although breakfast was very good, it would be nice to have some toast and marmalade/ jam included in the basic breakfast included in the room price.

The whole experience was very good. A very pleasant environment with welcoming staff was lovely. The bedroom was comfortable and large and the breakfast was delicious.

Strange places hotels.... There's always the noises - what was the regular banging that woke me between 1 and 2 in the morning? Why do some doors still bang shut and why isn't there a small nightlight for those trips to the loo? Then there was there way of doing breakfast - no cereals, everything had to be ordered and only 1 person serving!! Then when assistance arrived she served the last people in first!! I think breakfast took well over the hour for a pot of tea, a full English and some toast afterwards!!

Location was very quiet, just the way we hoped it would be. Almost secluded, but still close to where we wished to visit. Food was exceptional, if a little pricey. But if quality is what you expect then you have to expect to pay for it. Breakfast was of excellent quality, but see next section for further details. Booking in advance if you wish to eat in the restaurant in the evening is strongly advised. The evening menu and food is also of excellent quality if you wish to partake, but again, quality does come at a price.

Just to make any prospective bookers aware, there is no elevator at The Maynard, and climbing two flights of stairs (with or without luggage) is a good workout. (Especially with.) Rooms are named, not numbered, so finding you room upon arrival, no matter how well explained, can be an adventure in itself. Breakfast is served to you at you table. Personally I prefer a buffet style breakfast with getting you own coffee (or tea), as I do invariably have more than one cup at breakfast, and also being be able to choose your own cereal, pastry and toast. I don't however have an issue with the cooked breakfast being served to you. I do hasten to add though, that the breakfast itself that The Maynard provides cannot be faulted.

We stayed here for 1 night at the beginning of January, we had a lovely relaxing time, we stayed in the Sir Don Bradman Suite this had a stunning view and the facilities were excellent. The staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We both enjoyed breakfast the next day and finished off our stay with a walk in the surrounding area. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and we will be looking to rebook again in the future.

Absolutely no negatives we had an excellent time.

Absolutely fabulous hotel. Beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean, lots of extras such as a coffee machine in the room and toiletries etc. The food in the restaurant was excellent at dinner and breakfast. The only reason I have a slightly reduced review for comfort is because the bed was quite firm. This is just personal preference and I am sure many people prefer this. The comfort of the bedding, pillows etc was perfect though, like I said just a personal preference. The location is absolutely gorgeous. An all-round lovely place to stay.
