The staff were very friendly and we had a very enjoyable evening meal and slept well. The room was nice and quiet even though it looked onto an A road.

There was an issue with breakfast as the chef was delayed due to road works due to a burst water pipe. This couldn't be helped and another member of staff offered to boil us eggs but they weren't cooked properly (semi-raw) so we didn't eat them and had a long day ahead. Booking.com has refunded us the breakfast money but it took quite a bit of effort. The pub uses an AI service which is off-putting when you just need to talk to someone. However we would like to stay here again as it's in a good location, with friendly, helpful staff.

The location is on the edge of the Peak District and is close to Sheffield. The staff were excellent and were very friendly. The hotel is an old building with character. It had plenty of parking, good wifi, and was very dog friendly. The cooked breakfasts were very good as were the meals we had in the evenings. Tea and coffee facilities provided in the room were appreciated.

The bathroom whilst OK could do with a refurb - bit of a squeeze getting in and out of the shower cubicle and the grouting needed attention. As seems to be more common with hotels in general these days housekeeping has been cut back - probably a legacy of Brexit/Covid. Beds were not remade during our 3 night stay, and dust in cupboards and a few cobwebs were spotted around the building, but it is an old building. The kitchen was rather slow.

Cross Scythes is a wonderful place to stay just outside of Sheffield. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The room was a really good size with all the facilities you would need (hairdryer/iron/kettle) with the addition of a coffee machine. The bed was comfortable and we got a good night's sleep. We chose to eat in the pub on the Friday night and the food was lovely and very reasonable The bathroom was clean and functional, the shower was of good quality

There could have been more places to hang towels up in the bathroom

The Hotel itself is situated at the high-point of Baslow Road, leading in to Dore. Our first impression was very favourable,it had an old-world charm about it, great parking and an impressive entrance to the property. The eating area was well furnished and attractive. After we booked in we were led to our allocated room over the stable block. It was very comfortable, clean and welcoming, even to the large balcony which allowed us to sit in the cool of the evening.

To be honest, there was nothing I balked at in relation to this property and I would stay there anytime we were in the area. It was excellent as a base for our visit.

The room was cosy and comfortable. Shower worked well. Tea and coffee available in room. The room (room 3) had a good sized balcony, which would be good to use in warmer weather.

Room quite small. Good sized TV in the room - had many channels but, unfortunately, not the one channel we wanted to use BBC1. We did report this in the morning, so hopefully it will be re-tuned for future guests. My breakfast choice of a bacon sandwich wasn't a good choice - streaky bacon, so rather fatty, not much of it, and the bread was rather limp - it didn’t look very inviting! My husband had the full English and that was fine.

the room was lovely; it had a balcony that was quite comfy with a view over the street. it is a beautiful pub which is very dog friendly. the staff was absolutely great! The food (Lunch dinner and breakfast) is absolutely great We had the dog in our room in his basket, and he did spend most of the time sitting on the balcony watching the world go by :) Carpark is big and safe and the outside beer garden is lovely. We will stay here again as we found this part of the country beautiful and this hotel one of the best we stayed in so far!

The assistant manager sitting with his feet on a chair had to check us in, was sloppy and forgot to charge us for lunch and the 20 pound for the dog, we had to remind the evening manager! He was happy as there was an open bill that he didn't know who it belonged to! That was the only negative, the rest of the staff was absolutely golden! nothing to fault!!

Excellent breakfast, offering all the choices that suit me. All staff were friendly and helpful. Comfortable room with everything we needed. The balcony was a great bonus to the room, giving a lovely open aspect with good views, and a rare treat for my smoking husband to be able to step out there rather than go all the way out of the hotel!

The after 11p.m. access was a little complicated, but we navigated it successfully (even after a few drinks!).

Well decorated, friendly staff, very quiet, well decorated rooms, lovely views within the area - couldn’t have asked for a better stay! Staying above a pub on a Friday night too and on a fairly busy road, you couldn’t hear anything!

Parking was an issue because of the times for check in. There’s a primary school across the road which a lot of the parents were using to pick up their children, but we managed to get someone’s space once they left. After that, it’s an almost empty car park! The room could have maybe done with a bit of a deeper clean, it looked as though the hoover hadn’t picked up some hair and dust and instead had dragged it into the corner. But it is an older building too so you can’t expect it to be spotless! So not the end of the world, but had noticed

Lovely dog friendly pub with several bedrooms. We were in room 1, which was very comfortable and quiet, with tea and coffee making facilities and smart tv. The food menu in the pub was quite extensive and reasonably priced and the quality was super. Breakfast choice was also very good. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Handy location for both Sheffield and the Peak District.

Nothing to dislike unless you hate dogs (there were only a couple of them when we were there and they were very well behaved).

Stayed at the Cross Sythes in a balcony room which was lovely to sit out on when it was not raining The Cross Sythes is very quaint with upstairs and downstairs both very quirky and a nice change from your bog-standard chain . As well as the balcony in the room there is a large beer garden to the rear and a smaller area to the front and huge car park , The room was very comfortable with storage space and up a couple of steps was a well-equipped bathroom Breakfast which was included was delicious with plenty of choice , we also had an evening meal there which again was very good,
