Beautiful building, stunning decor. Staff were helpful and pleasant. I wouldn’t say friendly or warm but very professional and to the point. Room was decorated to the style of the property Plenty of coffee and tea facilities in the room, plenty of bottles of water available at no extra cost, fresh milk brought to the room. Very comfortable bed and slept extremely well. Excellent breakfast options.

Disappointed to see that the tiles and blind in the bathroom had black mould which considering the cost, really should be freshened up.

It’s beautiful location, the history, comforting decor, pleasant staff, the lovely courtyard and grounds and relaxing atmosphere of the hotel.

Unfortunately we had issues around the cleanliness of the room - coffee mug and spoon left dirty from previous guests, damp towel left in the bathroom and dusty furniture - not what we were expecting for £300 per night

We received truly excellent service from all staff. They were most attentive and responded to all our requests speedily and efficiently and with a smile. Our room was very well appointed and spacious. The hotel is in a superb location. We had two very nice evening meals - one in the Grill, and the other in the Tavern. The facilities in the Spa are to a very high standard, and we loved popping in there for a swim.

We stayed during a heatwave, so our room was very warm. It was unfortunate that it did not have any air conditioning, although to be fair it was one of the authentically historic rooms in the older part of the hotel. We understood that it might be difficult to install air conditioning in such a lovely old room. A very efficient fan was provided, and a second one was subsequently added, which certainly helped to keep us a little cooler.

Staff were so welcoming and helpful. Food was fresh and most enjoyable. Outside area saw superb and we really enjoyed the attention to detail throughout the hotel. Loved the history of the hotel and the way it had been preserved for visitors.

Bedroom was very hot and uncomfortable to sleep in. Windows would only open so much to let in air. The bath was small and the shower not very comfortable in terms of access. The taking of £200 per person was painful, especially when it is not returned immediately, Still waiting for my £400 24 hours later - disappointing, as they took the money from me in seconds

Lovely property. Old,historic, well maintained. Superb courtyard garden. Comfortable large bedroom, immaculate. Pool area also spotless and a welcome facility. Private car park invaluable in town with little car parking space

Nothing - old properties like this are always inconvenient often with steep staircases and complicated layout. Part of the charm. Squeaky floorboards predictable but irritating in the middle of the night! Staff were all very efficient but none from U.K. that we saw. Most decidedly lacked charm, perhaps because they didn’t really understand English culture, or were just concentrating on efficiency. Restaurant breakfast manager a notable exception. Rushed off her feet but also efficient AND charming! Also female receptionist at the Spa.

The communication leading up to our booking was brilliant. When we checked in the process of smooth easy and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Throughout our stay the room was perfect the breakfast the meals the bar the spa and especially the staff just excellent I would fully recommend staying at this place and I will definitely be staying again. The staff just always seems to do that little bit extra was so friendly and knowledgeable about the area giving us advice. We were traveling with our dog and it always seem that they made an extra effort to make him feel special as well. I could give six stars rather than five I would

There was not one thing but I could say bad about this place

Very good hotel in the middle of main street. Comfortable room, parking, good dining facilities, garden, great breakfast, a few little nooks in the ground floor where you can do some work if you have to. Most of the staff were great.

We booked an extra night and the system did not recognise it, so we were forced to move rooms for the extra night stay. We were told at check-in (2 days before) that they would try to let us keep the same room. We checked everyday and it seemed ok, then were only given 2 hours notice to move and were not told that we needed to register the car in the parking again. When we were checking out, the lady at reception was unfriendly.

Beautiful historic hotel with plenty of period feature, art, furniture, history. We had the 'cheapest' room (at nearly £400 per night) and was 2 floors up in the main building. While it's amazing that dogs are so welcome, it was a problem with our elderly dog (I did not realise this upon booking so worth checking). The grounds of the hotel are stunning, from the courtyard to the back manicured gardens (perfect for dog walks and so quiet). Dogs are very welcome in most areas, so are families. The pool is available for family time twice a day Food is by celeb chef James Martin and - while good - pretty overpriced, but this is Broadway and it's expensive. We did not book hotel breakfast, we only had dinner one evening (grillmenu). The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with plenty of tea and coffee and towels, water, tv, internet. Oddly, no minibar (which was a problem to keep dog food mainly). Staff are very friendly, from reception to managers to housekeeping.

Other guests especially some in the pool (rude, using mobile phone to take photos, fully dressed pool side etc). Pool / changing rooms were not warm enough in our views.

The hotel and restaurant staff were excellent. Friendly, courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. Our room was in the main house and we were delighted that it retained so many of the building's original features whilst remaining both warm and inviting. The bed was large and the mattress very comfortable which helped with a great night's sleep. The breakfast options are extensive and it was well cooked and of very good quality.

We had an evening dinner reservation for the Grill restaurant. It carries James Martin's name which was one of the primary reasons we booked there having rather high expectations of it. Whilst the food was reasonably good, it was by no means exceptional and did not in our opinion represent particularly good value for money.

The staff are really eager to please. Lovely welcome on arrival. Staff showed me round and helped to arrange a fridge for my room. I had lovely dinners on both evenings. 2 Spa experiences were super relaxing. 10/10

Some huge inconsistencies made my stay really frustrating. This hotel aims to be excellent and mostly is, however jarring errors marred my stay unfortunately. Cold poached eggs served on both mornings. Unwashed salad on lounge snack lunch with insect on plate. 2 staff were asked separately for bill to sign at the end of dinner. Both then busied themselves doing other things. Had to stand and wait for bill at entrance in the end. Some deep cleaning in bedroom (8) and snagging would be very beneficial. 3/10 Reception listened to my concerns on departure and made some concessions.
