Some country pubs look idyllic from the outside but the interior disappoints - either stark and overly modernised or just lacklustre. Not so The New Inn. It's chocolate box on the outside and just as yummy on the inside. The pub is a fascinating 13th century, thatched building, set by a very pretty brook which meanders alongside the lovely pub garden. The bar is low ceiling, beamed (with old ships timbers), with two inglenook fireplaces and 'The Captain', the pub's very own parrot! Dinner ingredients are locally sourced, from Devon beef to pub faves such as fish and chips. Breakfast is generous and with lots to chose from, inc kippers and the traditional 'full English'. The rooms at The New Inn are unusual given their size - they are very spacious and tastefully furnished, not pokey as you'd normally expect from rooms at an Inn. The en-suite bathrooms are recently refurbished, the beds are comfy and all is spotlessly clean. What's more, all the rooms have lovely views over the pretty village. Owners Mark and Teresa make you feel very welcome, they can't do enough for you and they look after this wonderful ancient building as well as they look after their guests. Do visit The New Inn and help keep this gem in business.

Nothing at all, I couldn't fault the place. I'd highly recommend The New Inn. I have stayed many times over the years and it never disappoints.

Lovely place, great service, really excellent food. Charming quiet location, the building is 723 years old - beautiful thatched old inn. Despite its age, its name seems misleading, but there was apparently once an even older inn in Coleford. The parrot is a nice bonus, the Captain is a star of the pub. Excellent conversations with the owners too, they were lovely people and clearly really care about their guests. Highly recommended.

To be honest there wasn't anything I didn't like!

Everything about the New Inn exceeded our expectations. The hosts were amazingly friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had booked 3 rooms, one so that our dog could also come with us. They were all lovely, spacious and clean. Dinner was excellent (the salt and pepper squid was delicious), as was breakfast the next morning. The way our dog was made so welcome was brilliant. We will definitely be visiting again.

Nothing at all. Everything was top notch.

The accommodation was really clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful. The evening meals were cooked beautifully and tasted divine, and so was the morning breakfast. I couldn't fault this place in any way, and when we are back that way, I will definitely be booking to stay there again.

There was absolutely nothing that I didn't like like about this place.

We went for a small celebration outstanding all round friendly welcoming staff, evening food amazing pork roast, breakfast was yummy they have thought of everything and more, the room (delux) was so lovely and cosy and the special touched like the shower cap and sewing kit great ideas. They couldn't have done anymore. Would loved to of stayed longer.

If there was anything for me mention it would be a full length mirror in the room but that is just me trying to find something to put.

Our room was absolutely immaculate. I have never seen a shower screen so pristine, it didn't look like there was any glass there! For a b&b that some parts date back to 1350, the facilities were spot on. Nice big TV in the bedroom exceptionally comfy bed and a delicious breakfast. We also had a birthday lunch there which was delicious. Oh, and we loved 'Captain' the 40 year old parrot too. Will definitely return.

Everything was lovely there was nothing I didn't like.

A charming old coaching inn set in a lovely location and run by friendly and welcoming hosts. Food was home cooked and excellent value, quite delicious dinner followed by a super cooked breakfast. A real trip back in time! The resident parrot "Captain" was a delight and boy can she talk!!

As olde worlde places go this is a gem.

Excellent food- main meal and breakfasts. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable super king-sized bed. Great shower in bath. Huge car park.

Towels could have been soft and fluffy as described in description. Main bedroom lighting was dim and dark stairway leading to upstairs rooms - could be brightened up / new carpets and painted.

The breakfast was lovely and the service was friendly. The room was large, airy and most pleasant.

We were not made to feel very welcome, almost as though we were in the way when we asked if we could check in early. The following day we revisited with friends and asked if we could have coffee but this was refused (due to cleaning rooms). We felt that this is not the way to win guests and with such a lovely building and garden, it was a disappointment.

The room was well presented, clean and I love the sustainability efforts they are trying to make. Comfortable bed. TV wood quality and I’m working order! Cute original characteristics nicely displayed.

Given it’s a B&B the breakfast times are different to that of hotels - please be patient and bear that in mind. Didn’t cause us any issues but I’m used to staying in hotels for work and I know this difference could catch some people out.
