This is an accommodation with a traditional British inn feeling to it. The room was comfortable although not really big or newly renovated. The dining room and pub are really tastefully furnished and the staff were always friendly. Food was good, both dinner and breakfast.

The main issue are the narrow and uneven stairs in both staircases. Carrying up a suitcase as an elderly guest could pose problems. The internet was not fast and sometimes didn’t work at all. Also we had two power outages within 48 hours, which made breakfast difficult on one morning. I would have appreciated it if the inn had given guests a voucher for a drink in the evening to make up for the missed cooked breakfast.

We arrived in time for a Sunday roast which was very tasty. We relaxed in the lounge with our coffee then explored Moretonhampstead. Our room was spacious and well appointed with a large bathroom. It was quiet and comfortable. The hotel was ideally placed for spending a couple of days exploring Dartmoor.

A small folder of info in our room would have been a nice addition: wifi code, instructions for the TV, and perhaps some info on the surrounding areas must see sights. However, it only took a moment to ask for the wifi code and there were leaflets downstairs. The delicious coffee after lunch on Sunday was not matched by coffee at breakfast, which was a disappointment.

The staff were super friendly to us and our dog. The room was lovely - well furnished and clean and the bed very comfortable, good shower. We ate in the bar and the food was very tasty.

The room was pretty noisy once we went to to bed - it sounded like there was a group having a drink very close by - turns out they were in the courtyard outside but this was right below our bathroom window. Lots of shouting and noise and a large dog barking too - which was kind of ok but it was still going on well after 11 so hard to sleep. There was no parking onsite and so you have to go down the road to a public car park. Not really a big problem although would've been easier had we known this in advance. Also the service was pretty slow in the bar, we had to wait for someone to appear each time and then once we had ordered sometimes we had to remind people about our drinks not coming.

The hotel has either been newly decorated or refurbished as it looks stunning, the choice of wallpaper, carpet in the entrance etc, makes it really cosy and welcoming. The breakfast was exceptional, as was all the wait staff. We decided to have dinner in the hotel, and they were great with my son, and kept him entertained during the evening (also great that Alice our waitress knew to ask me about puddings quietly, and not my son). The waiter at breakfast was so genial, and offered some advice on a walk to Postbridge nearby, he was really lovely and attentive. Breakfast was gorgeous, and I rarely post about it on social, but did because it was one of the nicer presented spreads. Our room was good, large and had a bathtub, the water was surprisingly high pressured shower, which I didnt expect in an old building. A fan was provided as it was a hot night, and the handmade shortbread was devoured by my son. All in all, a really great stay, well done to the owners of the property. We will probably come to stay again next year.

Old fashioned window within the room, which may need a safety lock to prevent kids from trapping their hands, or from trying to open it too widely. Other than that, everything we needed was in the room.

This is a buzzing, lively place with staff that seem to work extra hard to make guests happy. Though we don't have a dog, we really appreciated that the hotel is so welcoming to folks traveling with their special companions. Julie, who runs the breakfast room, was terrific! She worked very hard to keep everything just right for us. All our meals were well-prepared and delicious. The decor lends an air of old-fashioned plushness with a definite contemporary edge.

Shower/tub fixtures were a tad confusing to operate, but worked just fine once we got the hang of them.

The hotel was very central in Moretonhampstead and had been recently redecorated to a high standard. The decor had been chosen carefully and looked fresh without losing the character of the 400 year old building. Everything was clean and tidy. The bed was comfortable, plenty of tea, coffee and milk available in the room. The shower was pleasant and nice fresh towels. Generally staff were very helpful and friendly and once they are more experienced at using the computer to check guests in and order food for breakfast it will be better. The owner was around at breakfast time and happy to chat about all the improvements that have been made.

When we arrived I was asked for card details even though I had already paid for the room in full, which I have not encountered before, I found the way this was asked a little abrupt and unnecessary. The TV did not work when we got to the room, this was fixed after we enquired. It is not the hotel's fault, but because of the central location there was lots of traffic noise, especially as there was a damaged drain cover which all the cars and lorries drove over.

The location is excellent for visiting Dartmoor. Public areas very nicely decorated. Friendly staff, very willing to help. Delicious evening meals and very good drinks menu. Would stay here again.

Bedroom lighting too weak for reading at night. Touch of disorganisation when busy - a very long time to check in as staff busy; ran out of various breakfast items e.g. orange juice; needed reminding to take cooked breakfast order; wrong evening meals arrived twice. Staff charming about all of this though and tried hard to put right.

Very clean and newly decorated with nice furnishings.

Little details missing like a dressing table mirror, lock on bathroom door, proper blackout curtains rather than just a slatted blind. Breakfast was good but there was little fresh fruit. Just a single orange on the first day and nothing on the second. Porridge and fresh fruit is even available at Premier Inn and would really enhance the offering here. The orange juice also tasted like it was watered down??

Location. Perfect base to explore the town and glorious Devon countryside. Attractive venue. Comfortable and clean room well equipped. Bonus two tub arm chairs. Comfortable headboard. Decent shower. Superior loo roll paper for a change. Spacious and comfortable communal lounge area with plenty of extra comfy sofas. Happy crew. Excellent value. Simple breakfast which does the job. TripAdvisor Torbayaotearoa.

Bathroom extractor fan goes on forever. Bedroom cafetiere too small for size of coffee sachet. Inferior sauce sachets at breakfast. It would have been nice if the log fires were on fire in the communal lounge and bar. TripAdvisor Torbayaotearoa

The welcome by Alison was fantastic, a true understanding of hospitality. Alison, having noticed my husband's walking stick, helped bring our luggage from the car and changed our room to the 1st floor from the 2nd. Our room was well decorated and very comfortable. In fact we loved the decor throughout the hotel, lots of interesting art pieces. The staff catered for my coeliac diet without any fuss and we really enjoyed our dinner and breakfast. Moretonhampstead is an interesting place and good for exploring the moors.

Nothing really other than the hotel having no car park, although given the history of the hotel this is quite understandable.
